Surface Grinding Fixtures

Similar n design with milling fixtures but more tolerance.Use magnetic chuck to hold the workpiece. Have suitable space to permit the escape of the coolant and easy removal.Provide splash guard.

The workpiece should be made in ferrous material, or else the chuck won’t hold it.All locator must be accurately and positively positioned.

Cylindrical grinding fixtures

Are very similar with lathe fixture

Normally a secondary operation and performed after turning.

It is often to use the same center holes for grinding as turning the part.

Sludge removal must always be considered.

Most perfectly balanced to achieve the desired results.

Use standard accessories and attachments. Example: grinding collet, chucks and drives plates with special right angle called dogs.

Application of cylindrical grinding

The cylindrical grinder is a type of grinding machine used to shape the outside of an object. The cylindrical grinder can work on a variety of shapes, however the object must have a central axis of rotation.

Cylindrical grinding is defined as having four essential actions:

i. The work (object) must be constantly rotating

ii. The grinding wheel must be constantly rotating

iii. The grinding wheel is fed towards and away from the work

Indexing Fixtures

It is used to divide the circumference of a work piece into equally spaced divisions when miling gears, splines, squares and hexagon

It may also be used to rotate the work piece at a predetermined ratio to the table feed rate to produced cams and helical grooves on gears, drills, reamers, and other parts.

Universal Fixtures avoid the high costs, single purpose fixtures and long set-up times traditionally required for holding large, contoured and/or variable geometry parts and structures.It is suitable for aerospace applications, the manufacture of body components in the automotive industry, measuring technology applications, and in many areas of metrology.
