INTRODUCTION

•Food is any substance or material eaten or drunk to provide nutritional support for the body.

•Today there is marketable surplus of food grains in India. The prevalence of wide spread hunger is not due to Non-availability of food in the market but due to lack of adequate purchasing power amongst Rural and Urban Poor. This issue can be link to the issue of Nutritional security .

•The Uncertainty of food security are link to and compounded by their vulnerability from uncertainty of substance/production livelihood accessibility to Health and education services, etc.

•Therefore the need for achieving food security is felt significantly in the recent years due to anomalous pressure for eve increasing population in India

•Food security is monitored by agency such as international association for food protection, World resources instititute, World food program, International food Information council, etc

CONTROL MEASURE IN FOOD INSECURITY

•India`s food security policy was crafted with an aim to attained food self-sufficiency by making basic food grain available to all it`s citizen at affordable prices.

•To make this possible and to oversee it`s implementation, The food corporation of India {FCI} was setup under the food corporation act 1964.

•The FCI procures food grains from farmers at the government declared Minimum Support Price(MSP),which is a long term guarantee to ensure minimum production , stocks them in its warehouses, and then makes them available at affordable rates to the people through the Public Distribution System(PDS),which was restructured into Targeted Public Distribution System(TPDS).

•National Food security Mission

•SAARC food bank

•Organic farming – Or possible solution to ensure economically sustainable agriculture

•Recent act of Food security in India {FSSAI- Food safety and standards authority of India}

FOOD CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT

•Food is essential requirement for human survival . Proper conservation of food resources can keep food supplies plentiful Therefore conservation and management of food resources is of at most importance to maintain and foster the livelihood of present and future generations

•Some of the measures that can be taken for conservation and management of food resources are as follows-

1. Improving yields on marginal lands –Alley Farming

2. Expanding Aquaculture

3. Rediscovering forgotten foods

4. Increasing yields

5. Empowering Women farmers
