• NHS Wales is the publically funded National Health Service of Wales providing healthcare to some 3 million
people who live in the county.
• 70,000 people are directly employed by NHS Wales – making the health service Wales’s largest employer.
• The Welsh Government invests £6bn a year, or 40% of its budget in health and social services.
• NHS Wales delivers healthcare services through 7 Local Health Boards (LHBs) and 3 NHS Trusts.
• Much of the £6bn funding is directly allocated to the Local Health Boards and Trusts.

• Healthcare innovation officials are developing an NHS Wales industry engagement framework to allow
Health Boards to engage with industry in a way that ensures alignment with health strategic objectives
and prudent healthcare in an open and transparent way.
• A stakeholder reference group with senior clinical, academic and government representatives will meet
in the Spring to draw upon the experience of each partnership and to ensure that first principles are
drafted from a Welsh/Public value perspective and informed by real world understanding of industry
collaboration.
• Healthcare innovation officials are currently undertaking an engagement exercise to map out and
understand what prudent innovation and existing industry engagement arrangements are currently in
place across NHS Wales.

Health Technology and Telehealth Fund
• The projects supported by the Health Technology and Telehealth Fund have now reached the end of
their third quarter of delivery with the majority reporting good progress.
• A HTTF Network has been developed made up of the project teams and Innovation leads. The
purpose of the network is to share best practice and encourage the wider roll out of projects where
possible..
• Work is ongoing with ES&T colleagues on an exercise to map NHS Wales current procurement
activity against what it possible within Welsh markets to establish how the NHS can further support
the Welsh Economy within procurement regulation.
