Consider the differences between the following sentences

I go to my parent’s house every two months.

My brother comes to stay with me at Christmas.

She has a shower every morning.

My family and I live in Dublin

I’m going to a U2 concert next week.

My friends are coming to visit me next week from America.

She can’t answer the phone now she’s having a shower.

I’m living in Dublin at the moment.

Present simple

• The first important idea with the present simple is routine. Things we do everyday as part of our routine.

• I have breakfast at 8 am• My brother visits me at Christmas.• I take the bus everyday to go to work.

Present simple

• The second important idea with present simple is facts. Things that are always true.

• In Spain they speak Spanish.• Humans need air to breathe.• People use gas to cook food.

Present continuous• The first important idea with present continuous is

temporary actions. This can be actions happening now in this exact moment

• I am teaching. I am talking, I am breathing.

Or• Actions that are temporary, happening recently and we

don’t expect them to be permanent

• I am living in Dublin now.• I’m eating a lot of fast food!• I’m studying French at the moment.

Present continuous

• The second important idea with present continuous is future plans:

• We are going to visit Korea next year.• My friends are coming to see me next

week.• I’m meeting the manager of the company

tomorrow at 3pm.
