Present trend in supply characteristics

Present trend in supply characteristics

• The electricity is NOT ONLY for a specific time-stamp.

• It needs to keep sustainability also. • Development of new installed capacities

becomes required. • In hourly basis, hourly time-stamp

generation is expected to become higher. • Another important characteristic, LOAD

Seasonal feature of supply

Page 15: Present and Future Sector Development in Myanmar

Seasonal feature of supply

• 65% of seasonal peak supply developed after 3 hot seasons (May)

• But … • The insufficient supply STILL existed in every

hot seasons. • WHY? • Load is always lower than demand. • Load has not be seen under definite

characteristics.

Demand characteristics (Types)

Page 17: Present and Future Sector Development in Myanmar

Demand characteristics (Regions)

• National Grid supply reaches all regions except Chin, Rakhine and Tanintharyi in 2013.

• Chin and Rakhine is going to be supplied on 2014. • Tanintharyi would be on 2016. • Present trend of development of electricity

demand shall be expected to change in increase from 15% to above. – Chin: from 4% to 7% and above – Rakhine: from 13% to 16% and above – Tanintharyi:from 13% to 20% and above (SEZ

included)

Demand characteristics (in Sectors)

• View to the supply side record, sectors are classified as – Industrial – Commercial – Households

• Industrial and commercial sector demand is significantly high at day time, 6 am to 5 pm.

• But Myanmar peak load mostly happens at 7 pm. • The comparison of hourly peak load between past

years reflects it.

Demand characteristics (Day & Night)

Page 21: Present and Future Sector Development in Myanmar

Demand characteristics (Day & Night)

• Up to the past summer, insufficient supply to demand still happened at day time.

• The unplanned load shedding quantity became nearer to 300 MW.

• The demand is expected to increase throughout the day time especially at Summer afternoons.

Conclusion

• Electricity is a product for every second consumption.

• Best mix of generation in Master Plan is essential for sustainability.

• Reinforcement in transmission system is for reliability.

• Investment in distribution network is to reduce technical loss.
