The Seahawks open their preseason on the road with a trip down theI5 corridor to face former AFC West division rival Chargers on ThursdayAugust 8 at 7 p.m. (PT).

This will be the 12th time the Seahawks and Chargers have met in thepreseason, with Seattle holding a 74 advantage. The preseason seriesbegan with three games played from 197678 with Seattle winning twiceSeattle also took two of three games when play resumed from 200204.

Since realignment in 2002, Seattle has faced San Diego eight times inthe preseason, posting a 44 record, and recorded a 2417 victory in thelast meeting on August 11, 2011. This will be the sixth time in the last eightpreseasons Seattle has traveled to San Diego.

In the regular season, these former AFC West rivals have met 49times and Seattles 2623 record against San Diego is the best against anyother AFC West team.

The game will be shown locally on Q13 FOX with playbyplay man CurtMenefee returning to the preseason booth for his fifth season and he wil

When Life Hands You Clemons...Its time to enjoy a nice cool glass of Clemonade.Since arriving in Seattle via trade with Philadelphia in March of 2010, defensive end Chris Clemons has been heating up as one

of the most productive sack leaders in the NFL.

He has 33.5 sacks in 48 games played for Seattle, ranking as one of the most productive streaks in franchise history. Hebecame just the third player in franchise history (Jacob Green, Michael Sinclair) to record doubledigit sacks in three consecutiveseasons, with 11plus in each of his three seasons in Seattle, including a careerhigh 11.5 this season.

Special DThe 2011 edition of the Seahawks defense, with the secondyoungest starters in the league, went down as one of the best infranchise history.

With nine of its 11 starters starting at least 14 games, Seattle finished ranked ninth in the NFL allowing 332.2 yards per game,ranking in the top10 for only the sixth time in its 36year history, and for the first time since 1997.

Seattle followed that up by statistically being the best defense in franchise history in 2012, allowing 306.3 yards per game andranking fourth in the league. It was only the second time since 199192 that the team ranked in the top10 in NFL defense in backtoback seasons. It finished 2012 ranked as the thirdyoungest starting defense in the NFL (25 years, 195 days).

firstclass amenities and that has not changed this season as Seattle has signed on with Delta Airlines as its 2013 official charter.

The Boeing 767 aircraft will carry the Seahawks around the world (a trip around the world is 25,000 miles) as they trave

the secondmost miles, 28,238, according to the NFL. Four west coast counterparts, including two NFC West rivals, accompany

Seattle in the great blue yonder.

Kick in the PantsSeattle kicker Steven Hauschka took little time to enter his name in Seattles record book as he kicked a franchisetying and

careerhigh five field goals of 22, 38, 39, 35 and 30 yards vs. Baltimore (11/13/11) to help in Seattles 2217 win in 2011. He joins Norm

Johnson (twice), Todd Peterson and Olindo Mare (twice) in his accomplishment.Hauschka also holds Seattles longest attempt (61 vs. Atlanta, 10/2/11 and at Detroit, 10/28/12) in franchise history.

He also converted at least one field goal in 14 straight games (201112), surpassing Todd Peterson (199798) for the longest

streak in franchise history.

His three field goals in the Wild Card Game at Washington (1/6/13) last year set Seattles postseason record.

Virginia Mason Athletic CenterThe Seattle Seahawks announced the completion of the

Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC) as the project was com

pleted ontime with the first Seahawks employees staffing thebuilding on August 4, 2008 after spending 22 years in Kirkland.

The stateoftheart training facility is located on LakeWashington and is more than 225,000 sq. ft., second largest inthe NFL. The site is bounded by Interstate 405 to the east, LakeWashington to the west, residential properties to the northand open land to the south. The building sits on 19waterfrontacres, compared to 10 acres in Kirkland.

VMAC was designed as a yearround training facility andsuperior work environment for Seahawks players, coaches andstaff. The first class facility features approximately 50,000 sq.ft of training space including: brand new weight and training

equipment, 146person auditorium and a locker room with 80custom lockers. A 30foot training pool is equipped with theability to video tape the players rehabbing while in the water,allowing for a more effective and efficient workout.

VMAC also features a player lounge which will allow players to relax in between practices and meetings. The loungeincludes a projection television with XBOX, music ports andcomputers to check email and other web sites.

The move was necessary to accommodate growth in several key business segments. The new facility has tripled thefloor space and provides increased production capacity. VMACwill allow the organization to work under one roof as theKirkland front office, Corporate Sponsorships, Suites, FanDevelopment and the Sounders FC staff housed in Renton.

The building is equipped with a permanent indoor practicefacility, an amenity that lacked at the Kirkland facility. The practice facility is more than 88,000 sq. ft. and 112 ft. high (95 ft.clear). The playing surface is the identical FieldTurf that is usedat CenturyLink Field. VMAC will also feature three regulationsize outdoor grass fields, and fans will be able to watch theteam practice during training camp in 2012.

Football Operations and team practices began on Monday,August 18, 2008.
