It has been a long month for most of us at Little Chapel...a month that has seen us ride the roller coast- er of emotions. There was the decorating and the Hanging of the Greens, the wonderful choir Christmas Cantata, the children's Christmas pageant and youth pancake supper, the day trip to Myrtle Beach, the PW Christ- mas gathering, the warm feeling in our hearts as we helped others less for- tunate, but then there were the difficult times. I know there are others of you who are going through difficult times as we come to the end of the year. But through it all, I just want to say again, as I have said so often in the past how very, very fortunate I feel to be your pastor. Through all that hap- pened this Advent season everyone pulled together and worked together, and prayed together, and we will as a community of faith get through it all, because we have one another to lean on and because we have a God who loves and cares and only wants the best for each one of us. I want to thank you for the love and support you have shown to Marcia and myself not only this past month, but the past year. I know it might even sound like a cliché' now, but you are indeed the "Little Chapel with the Big Heart" and I am blessed to be your pastor. 2016

The scholarship committee is pleased to announce that the 2016-2017 Scholarship applications will be available in January for individuals pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies. You will find the applications located on the bookcase opposite the church office. Please re-turn completed applications to Little Chapel by April 30, 2016.

THURSDAY MORNING

BIBLE STUDY WINTER SERIES

Our Winter Bible Study on Thurs-day mornings will resume on

Thursday, January 21, 2016. We will continue our study of Kay Arthur's The Names of God. New participants are encouraged to attend, as it is not a requisite to have completed the first part last fall. Each lesson is a stand- alone chapter about the Hebrew names of God and the meaning of each name. Books are available at Lifeway Book Store or see Jean Schild. Our participants last fall en-joyed this fascinating study and we are eager to have everyone return and to have new participants as well. See Jean Schild for questions...a signup sheet will be in the narthex.

FLOWERS FOR

SUNDAY WORSHIP

In the narthex is a signup sheet for fresh flowers for our sanctuary for Sunday mornings. Next to this is a small stack of forms to fill out for Martha. Just fill out this form, include your check and put this in Martha’s box across from the office. These flowers can be given in memory of someone or in honor of whoever you may choose. Your flowers actually serve two purposes. They are enjoyed by everyone during worship, then the flowers are used to make up smaller arrangements that are taken to our members in care, in the hospital, or ill at home. These people so enjoy receiving flowers that they know were in our sanctuary during worship. This is just another way we can make people who cannot get to church feel that they are still a part of our church family. The cost of one vase is $50. and the cost of two vases is $100. If you donate one vase, it will be placed on the communion table. If you donate two vases, they will be placed on the flower stands at the front of the sanctuary. Please note, Communion Sundays (the first Sunday of each month) require two vases. Please consider being a part of this ministry.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN In the days leading to Christmas we experienced such anticipation, looking forward to all the good things the season would bring us. Then it was all over and we sometimes feel a little let-down. But the anticipation doesn't really end there! At the New Year, don't we anticipate what 2016 will bring? For the Women of Little Chapel, we will look forward to our Circle meetings and our study of the stories of water in the Bible. This month those stories will tell us of the absence of that life giving liquid and our long-ing to have our thirst and our souls quenched and of the beauty and joy we are given in God's deliverance from the treacherous waters we sometimes must cross. I anticipate some interesting conversations as we relate to one another our own stories of thirst and deliverance. Please check the church calendar for where and when our Circles meet. All are welcome! We are also anticipating welcoming Church Women United to Little Chapel on Friday, January 8 at 9:30am when we gather with them for the CWU Annual Meeting. Come join us!

LITTLE CHAPEL PRESCHOOL

Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Preschool is currently accepting applications for the 2016/2017 school year. Our half day Christian based program focus-es on age appropriate activities designed to help develop both fine and gross motor skills,

while fostering independence throughout the classroom. Currently, we are offering 2, 3 and 5 day a week options for your 3 and 4 year olds. For more information about our Preschool, please call Angela McConnell, Director/Teacher (910) 256-2819 ext. 104.

♥MEALS OF LOVE ♥

Thank you to all who helped make the fourth Meals of Love for Hospice a success. Janice Allen, Mark & Lydia Labocetta (and Lydia’s Mom), Freddye Ledford, Ann Martz, Maggie North, Jean Northrop, Carol Peck and Silvey Robinson pre-pared the food. Kathy and Brett delivered and set up at Hos-pice. This is a wonderful project the Mission Committee has started and we thank you for all your support.

A NEW VISION FOR OLDER ADULTS

A catered luncheon will be given for Older Adults in February. Watch for more information. If you would enjoy having input into new activities for Older Adults, please contact: Iris Davis, Susan Long, Marcia Rabun, Pat Rabun or Jean Schild. Some of the suggestions for beginning a new vision is using a questionnaire, having a contest for a unique name, listing events men and women would enjoy and a time of day and a day a week chosen for events of fellowship, study, entertainment and meals. The church has added new staff members for children, for youth, for preschool and for music. It is now time to think of the older adults and fulfillments in our daily church lives. Little Chapel has unique opportunities to fill the needs of older adults moving into the community and look-ing first for a place to worship and also a place to have fellowship, feel useful, broadened their fields of learn-ing and fulfilling the life of perhaps a new widow or widower or a new fellowship group, interesting events to participate and join. This is NEW for Little Chapel! Let us build a firm foundation for a strong and viable Older Adult Life with in Little Chapel. It can be Wonderful!!

Look for more information coming soon.

Myrtle Beach Christmas Show 2015! A fun day of fellowship with good friends

and the show was really good, too! Thanks to Marcia Rabun, Linda Shahaltough, Bonnie Cooper

and everyone who helped with the planning of this years event!

   IN THE MAIL

The Worship Committee would like to thank everyone who came out and helped decorate the Little Chapel for the Advent/Christmas season. There were lots of help-ing hands ready to take on any job that needed to be done. We couldn’t have done it with out you!

Dear Pastor Pat and Community, May you find the peace of His love at Christmas and always and thanks for all you do to help others find that very peace. The generous offerings from our ecumenical sharing has already brought peace to a needy family and there will be more.

Joy, Prayers, Gratitude, Sister Mary Isaac

Dear Members of the Little Chapel, On behalf of Nourish NC, I would like to thank you for your generous donation in the amount of $4,120.60. This money will help supplement some of the costs Nourish NC incurs while providing supplemental week-end food to over 550 students in New Hanover County. We are honored by your continued commitment to our mission of making a difference in the lives of local chil-dren. As Nourish NC’s program expands to feed more children, we are building a foundation to bridge the gap of nutritional poverty and impact the future of each child we serve. Due to the severe economic downturn, the number of children in New Hanover County classified as “homeless” under the McKinney-Vento Act has dou-bled since 2010. The latest research estimates that 1 in 4 children suffer from “food insecurity” in NC. This high prevalence of food insecurity among children has ad-verse effects that translate into rising health costs, re-duced educational performance and increased cost to the criminal justice system. Your investment is pivotal in our ability to help these students maintain a healthy lifestyle and prosper. In partnership with Little Chapel, Nourish NC will help others help themselves.

Steve McCrossan Executive Director , Nourish NC

Iris and Dru, It was great meeting ya’ll. I can’t thank you enough for your sup-port. With your help we added 3 schools in the last 10 days in-cluding 2 Pre-Ks. Ya’ll are the best! God Bless! Steve Dear Friends at the Little Chapel, Larry and I wish you a Merry Christmas. Thank you for the financial support you have given us this year and

your prayers for us personally, those we work with and the country of Congo. Through your support, millions of people in Congo, particularly women and children, are receiving better health care and work of the Presbyterian Church in Congo is being strengthened. God bless you!

Inge and Larry Sthreshley UPDATE: Dr. Larry Sthreshley and Inge Sthreshly - Democratic Republic of the Congo Larry works with partner churches and organizations to help build capacity for health ministry in the Democrat-ic Republic of the Congo. His work with Interchurch Medical Assistance (IMA) has helped partners run large, internationally funded health programs that have posi-tive impacts on health. Larry says his goal is to help the church “effectively demonstrate the love of Christ through health ministry.” Inge works with both IMA and the Presbyterian Church of Kinshasa with commu-nity garden programs to alleviate urban hunger and mal-nutrition and as an advisor to the Methodist Presbyteri-an Hostel.

How important it is to financially and prayerfully support our mission co-workers throughout the world!

CENTERPOINT

“Be still and know that I am God.” The words from Psalm 46 remind us how to

seek emotional and spiritual nurture.

Oftentimes I share some rewording of that verse with clients. They despair that their day-to-day life has become so cluttered and hectic. They detail some challenging difficulty and look to me for suggestions of what they might do in response. They are so intent on what to do that they have overlooked their own thoughts, daydreams and devotions.

Learn to appreciate stillness. Don’t apologize for it and don’t compromise it. Decide to be intentional about providing opportunity for emotional and spiritu-al stillness. In the stillness, let yourself know God. The result may well be a dawning peace. That peace is the source of fulfilling our responsibilities as a spouse, parent, friend and good neighbor.
