We constantly refer too many of the jobs in our sector as

“low-skilled”

Hard to sell younger generations the benefits of coming into your industry sector if you keep referring to

them as “low-skilled”

• We have an education system that is designed for an academic pathway which may not fit

• When they don’t succeed in it, it impacts on their self esteem and their determination

• They also have an attitude of ‘it’s not worth it’.

Different to our generation – why?

We often had objectives to save for…

We know resilience is an issue

So how do you attract someone work in the sector?

What’s in it for

me?

High BS detector

so if you don’t

walk the talk, they

leave.

Won’t put up with

it.

Continued hiring of

people on working

holiday visas will not

provide a pool of

permanent people

to draw from.

Those that manage

without ever having

done so are

invariably not best

for business.

You need to give

them a go.

Mentor and

support (really).

Treat with respect.

BUT

they probably

won’t be long-

term employees

as for all

industries, those

days are gone.
