10 FRIGHTENING REALITIES OF THE POST RECESSION ECONOMY

1.Doing more with less – Managers hesitant to hire more, but will increase duties of existing employees.

2.Held back by housing - Unemployed job seekers struggling to pay their mortgage still have fewer options for their job search.

3.Choose your education carefully - There are no jobs, so why not get more training and make yourself a better candidate when there are jobs?

4.Age diversity - People are delaying retirement because of the recession. More older workers are now searching for new careers

5.The Finance Industry - Firms will still be significantly cutting back. Bank of America, for one, is in the midst of a large job cut, and some analysts believe that other banks might not be too far behind.

6.A Second “World” Recession? - The World Bank has issued a financial alert for a the real potential for a 2012 – 2013 4% GDP economic downturn on a global scale due to the European Debt Crisis

10 FRIGHTENING REALITIES OF THE POST RECESSION ECONOMY

7.More short term jobs - Americans have to look at jobs differently, with many accepting temporary and part-time positions rather than holding out for full-time permanent work.

8.The IT consolidation trend - The major players in the field have lots of incentives to keep adding to their range of offerings. One way they're doing that is by snapping up smaller firms.

9.The importance of internships - Because of the shortage of jobs, landing an internship is going to be more important than ever.

10.Negotiate a package, not a salary - You should value the entire package and quantify everything. How you do that is up to you. Your compensation number should factor in what is essential to you and what is non-essential.

YOUR PERSPECTIVE CAN COLOR YOUR JOB SEARCH

Step 1 - See that you're in a Perspective

The first step is simply to identify your current perspective about job searching.

Step 2 - Realize there are many other Perspectives

The second step is to identify additional perspectives.

Step 3 - Consciously choose a Perspective

Once you're done trying on each of the perspectives,it is time to choose one of them.

Step 4 - Create an Action Plan from the Perspective you Choose

How would you put into action your new perspective?

Step 5 - Commit to the Plan!!

The important thing to see is that taking on negative beliefs will color your job search accordingly and may be the root of your “stuckness.”

GET Choose optimism over

pessimismA pessimist looks for difficulty in the opportunity, whereas an optimist looks for opportunity in the difficulty.

Choose optimism over cynicismAlmost half of American workers fall into the cynic category. They mistrust just about everything.

Finding the Right Mental Attitude for Success (Cont.)

Turn interruptions

into opportunities

When other people's schedules don't conform to yours, you can still relax and people-watch or use the extra time to work on ideas.
