Building Into Young Lives in Negritos, Peru Your compassion realized through facility improvements at Perlas de Gran Precio Student Center

Thank you, ThornCreek Church family, for

revealing the love of God to 298 Compassion-

registered boys and girls in Negritos, Peru. Your

gift toward a complete infrastructure at Perlas de

Gran Precio Student Center has renewed a hope

in these children that they will be released from

severe poverty in their lifetime.

It is our joy to share with you the impact of your

generous offering.

The Meeting of a Need Because you are committed to the children at this

center, you know the reality of their daily lives.

You understand the brutal cycle of poverty in this

coastal community — the way these children

sleep under roofs made of scrap material, how

they consider running water and electricity

luxuries, and how they often fend for themselves

while their parents look for work.

Through your powerful partnership with the local

Nazarene Church of Negritos, you also know that

God is at work among these children and in this

town, and that darkness will not prevail where the

light of Christ shines.

The church leaders who serve at the student

center are tenacious in their mission to meet the

children’s holistic needs. They faithfully provide

meals, health care, tutoring and spiritual training

in less-than-ideal circumstances. They constantly

work toward a safer, more efficient space for the

children to learn, grow and play.

As you know, plans were in place to build

bathrooms on the next-door property the church

manages, and those plans had to be surrendered

as land-ownership certification wasn’t obtained as

hoped. So, with your blessing, in order to steward

your gift wisely and remain above reproach by not

building on land they don’t yet legally own,

church leaders developed a new plan for the

children: significant improvements to the existing

classrooms, hallways and stairways on the second

and third floors of the student center, upgraded

security and electrical systems, and new

educational resources.

The implementation of an enhanced facility and

program at Perlas de Gran Precio Student Center

unfolded between November 2013 and March

2014.

First, a building professional helped determine

materials required for the intervention, and the

church leadership purchased supplies such as

aggregate, ceramic flooring and windows. The

team also utilized funds to acquire new classroom

tools — educational games, paintbrushes, books,

shelves and audio equipment.

Then the construction team laid flooring for

classrooms on the second and third floors,

replaced windows, updated the electrical system

and installed a security system. They also finished

hallways, walls, and stairways with handrails to

ensure the children’s safety.

The Accomplishments of Your Compassion Because of your generosity, 298 children and the

13 adult staff at the Perlas de Gran Precio

Student Center now meet in a safer, more

welcoming environment — and many thousands

of other impoverished children will attend the

center in the years to come.

When they walk into the center today, students

find clean, brightly colored classrooms. More of

them can comfortably participate in program

activities because of the expanded and improved

space. A third-floor classroom, unsuitable for

student use in the

past, is now in full

use.

These boys and girls,

whose parents often

cannot afford to feed

them or send them to

school, now receive

spiritual, educational,

social and health

training at the center

with a renewed desire to actively learn and grow.

They see God’s faithfulness to them through His

provision of the improved facility and additional

educational supplies.

The center is truly more full of life as students

confidently move from room to room. The new

surroundings clearly communicate that this is a

haven — a place of healing, empowerment and

transformation for these young ones in Negritos,

Peru.

The Enrichment of Children’s Lives Your gift is already helping change lives in this

neighborhood.

The teaching that happens inside this beautiful

center is revealing more truth to these boys and

girls about the identity God says they have in

Jesus. Project Director Flor Curay Benites

reports, “Children can grow in an environment

where they know someone cares about them and

their welfare. They feel more comforted and

valued.”

Giancarlo, a student who attends weekly

activities, says he used to be uncomfortable at the

center, but not anymore. He shares, “Now we can

better learn everything the church offers and

develop in every area of our lives.”

Through the infrastructure improvements in the

center, the students feel greater strength and

stability under their feet as they navigate the

hallways. When they use the high-quality

resources in the classrooms, they begin to taste

freedom from the grip of extreme poverty. You

have helped assure these children that nothing

can separate them from God’s redemptive love —

that they belong, that they matter.

Thank You! ThornCreek Church, because of your

determination to not let the children of Negritos

go unnoticed, you have contributed significantly

to God’s kingdom — both now and in the future.

Thank you!

The rich deposits you’ve made in these children’s

lives will endure in them, their families, and their

community. When they hear from you, see your

faces, and use the facilities and resources you’ve

provided, they feel Jesus’ embrace. May these

Peruvian boys and girls continue to grow in

knowledge of Jesus and His love. And may God

bless the family of ThornCreek Church.
