Prepare Every Needful Thing If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear

We are living in the perilous times of the last days as prophesied by many prophets that saw our day. Safety in these difficult yet exciting times comes through following the prophet. We feel that there are important things that we can all do to be better prepared for our glorious future. We have received great counsel from our modern day prophets and apostles to guide us in our preparation. If we prepare we will be of good cheer and be able to help lift others. In this material you will find practical ideas for physical and spiritual preparedness, inspiring quotes from Church leaders, recipes for using food storage, as well as inspiring personal accounts and testimony. May we all be prepared to meet the Bridegroom as the five faithful virgins in the parable of the ten virgins.

The Parable of Two Princesses Once there was a king that had two beautiful

daughters. He loved them very much. He wanted to give them a special gift. He called them both to him and told them that he had a gift for them, but in order to obtain this wonderful gift they had to complete several tasks that he would give to them. They would have to leave his kingdom going their separate ways in order to complete their tasks. Part of the requirements was that they had to go in disguise so no one would know they were actually princesses. They would have an allotted time to complete their tasks, although the amount of time was known only to the king. When the time was finished he would send the Crown Prince, their elder brother, to bring them home. He told them that they could call him any time and that he would anxiously await their return. They were both very excited because they knew that the gift would be of great worth.

Princess Faithanna started out on her journey to the west and Princess Fearella went to the east, wishing each other well and a speedy return.

As Princess Faithanna traveled she came to a kingdom called the Kingdom of Prepared. It was a beautiful place with lovely well-kept cottages and beautiful fields of golden grain. It seemed that every cottage had a lovely vegetable garden. She saw orchards with fruit trees of every kind. The people all seemed so happy. She decided this was a good place for her to work on her assigned tasks. She found a comfortable room in a boarding house that was reasonably priced. Father had given her a small amount of money for her journey.

She began looking for work and found a job as an assistant in the nearby library. This was the ideal job. It would give her a chance to meet many of the people in the kingdom and learn about them and what was important in their lives.

In the library she found many wonderful books that taught her many useful skills. She also found a very special book that taught many important things about life and how to be happy and safe. She realized that many of the people around her loved this special book.

She met many people and made lots of friends. She began to see that the people had many good qualities in common. She made a list of the things that seemed to be important to them in their lives.

Meanwhile, Princess Fearella traveled until she came to the Kingdom of Unprepared. It was a lovely place with big expensive houses with perfectly manicured lawns and beautiful flower gardens, many with swimming pools and tennis courts. There were huge shopping malls where you could buy anything if you had enough money. She saw many expensively dressed people rushing here and there. They all seemed to be in a hurry to get somewhere. She smiled at some as she passed, but no one seemed to smile back. She thought, “they are just busy and too deep in thought to notice me.” Princess Fearella decided she would stay in this place to do her assigned tasks.

She had difficulty finding a place to stay that was in her budget. She finally decided on an apartment. It was quite a bit more that she could afford with the money Father had given her, but it was so lovely and had the best of everything just like at home. She knew it was extravagant but she would get a job and she would be able to pay for it. Besides she had a whole month before she had to make the next payment.

Princess Fearella was able to find a job at a very classy clothing store in the nearby shopping mall. She thought this would be a great place to get to know the people and learn what was important to them. She met many people and made friends and began to see things that were important in their lives. She made a list of the qualities that many of the people seemed to share.

Princess Faithanna’s List Princess Fearella’s List Frugality Indulgence Diligence Procrastination Prayerfulness Pride Modesty Vanity Patience Instant Gratification Obedience Slothfulness Serving Self-centered Prioritizing Too Busy Hard Working Leisure Loving Self-reliant Dependant As Princess Faithanna studied the list she had made, she understood why the people were so happy. She knew that she wanted to develop all of these wonderful qualities and worked hard to become a part of the people in the Kingdom of Prepared.

Princess Faithanna called her Father often to tell him what she was learning and to ask his advice. The King could tell she was happy.

As Princess Fearella studied the list she had made, she realized that it might be good for her to find another place to complete her tasks and she would, tomorrow.

Princess Fearella called home only occasionally because she was so busy as she explained to her Father. The King was concerned about his daughter but she always said, “don’t worry Father, all is well in the Kingdom of Unprepared; all is prosperous.”

Princess Fearella spent much of her money buying the beautiful, expensive clothing sold in the store where she worked. She also loved spending her spare time with her friends at the spa being pampered. She even had some plastic surgery and other beauty enhancing procedures. They were expensive but so worth it.

As the allotted time was drawing to an end, the king sent one of his servants to his daughters to tell them the Crown Prince would soon be coming.

Princess Faithanna was excited. She felt such love for her father and elder brother. She could hardly wait to see them again.

Princess Fearellla had a feeling of fear come over her at the servant’s message. She wasn’t ready yet. But then she realized that she still had time. “Soon” could be a long ways off. Tomorrow she really intended to leave this kingdom and make some changes.

Tomorrow came and Princess Faithanna saw the Crown Prince afar off and joyfully ran to meet him. He embraced her and put her royal robes upon her shoulders and her crown upon her head. What joy and love was felt that day.

Princess Fearella saw the Crown Prince afar off and was seized by an awful fear. She wasn’t ready. She thought she had more time. She had intended to leave the Kingdom of Unprepared, but now it was too late. With sorrow she realized that she had become just like the people of the Kingdom of Unprepared. In shame she hid from the presence of her Elder Brother.

“If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear”, (D&C 38:30). By Linda Davis

Prepare Every Needful Thing

“Prepare every needful thing” (D&C 88:119), is important counsel for our day and time. President Hinckley, in the November 2005 Ensign and Liahona, spoke on the subject of, “If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear.” After quoting many scriptures on the calamities prophesied for these last days he said, “What we have experienced in the past was all foretold, and the end is not yet. Just as there have been calamities in the past, we expect more in the future. What do we do? Some have said it was not raining when Noah built the ark. But he built it, and the rains came. The Lord has said, ‘If ye are prepared ye shall not fear’ (D&C 38:30)… We can so live that we can call upon the Lord for His protection and guidance. This is a first priority. We cannot expect His help if we are unwilling to keep His commandments…We can heed warnings…We have built grain storage and storehouses and stocked them with necessities of life in the event of a disaster. But the best storehouse is the family storeroom. In other revelation the Lord has said, ‘Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing’ (D&C 41:1-36).

Our people for three-quarters of a century have been counseled and encouraged to make such preparation as will assure survival should a calamity come.

We can set aside some water, basic food, medicine, and clothing to keep us warm. We ought to have a little money laid aside in case of a rainy day.

Let us never lose sight of the dream of Pharaoh concerning the fat cattle and the lean…years of plenty and years of scarcity (see Gen.41:1-36).

I have faith…that the Lord will bless us, and watch over us, and assist us if we walk in obedience to His light, His gospel, and His commandments.”

So, are we prepared and what things can we do right

now to be better prepared? We must remember not to run faster than we have strength or means, but not use that as a reason to not do what we can.

I have heard people say that being spiritually prepared is more important than being physically prepared. The Lord has told us that all things are spiritual to Him (see D&C 29:34-35). Any time we are given instructions from the Prophet, if we are to be spiritually prepared we must be obedient to his council. In this way physical or temporal preparation is also a test of our spiritual preparation through our willingness to be obedient to all

Page 7: Prepare Every Needful Thing - BYU Women's Conference · 2015-11-12 · Prepare Every Needful Thing If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear We are living in the perilous times of the

7

things whatsoever we are commanded to do. The Lord has said, “whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants it is the same” (see D&C 1:38). I love the Lord’s use of symbolism to teach us and help us to remember important things. Many symbols He uses have more than one meaning. As we prepare some of these symbols can be helpful to us.

The Bread of Life for the Body and Spirit Look at bread for instance. In our preparation we need to include daily feasting with the Bread of Life, who is Christ, by feasting upon His word through consistent study and pondering on the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon. We also find that bread or grains that can make bread are the staff of life that we should eat daily as we live the Word of Wisdom, an important part of being physically strong. Keeping the Word of Wisdom has important promises needed in these the last days. A prayerful study of it will be of great benefit to you both physically and spiritually. Okay, now if we want to be able to feast on the staff of life we better make sure that we have a good supply of whole grains, such as wheat, rice, barley, oats, etc., stored.

Oil For Our Lamps And More Another important symbol is oil. We are counseled to have oil in our lamps plus extra. The parable of the ten virgins is very important to our day (see Matthew 25:1-13, D&C 45:56-59. Having oil in our lamps represents having the Holy Ghost as our guide. We can gain this important oil as we seek daily to follow the Lord’s example of obedience, service and sacrifice. Oil is also a very important part of our daily needs in maintaining health. For our food storage, oil gives us calories and fats that help our bodies function properly as well as added flavor and texture to our food. And of course no preparation is complete without consecrated oil for the healing of the sick.

Salt of the Earth Let’s talk about salt. We are to be the salt of the earth. What does that mean? Salt in ancient times was used as money. Salt is of great worth as we are also of great worth to our Heavenly Father. Salt is used to preserve food, to keep it from spoiling. As we keep the

Page 9: Prepare Every Needful Thing - BYU Women's Conference · 2015-11-12 · Prepare Every Needful Thing If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear We are living in the perilous times of the

9

commandments we keep our savor as the salt of the earth (see 3 Nephi 16:15, D&C 101:39, 103:10). Our example can have a preserving affect on those we come into contact with. Salt is an important food storage item for many reasons. Have you ever had bread without salt? I have and it is not very tasty. It is also important for our health to have some salt in our diet.

All about Leaven Leaven is another symbol that can aid us in our preparation. Just a little leaven can make a whole lot of difference. As a symbol of spiritual preparation, leaven shows us that by small means are great things accomplished. The simple things like showing gratitude and praying often can have a great elevating effect on our souls. Also, our good example can have a great affect on those around us. Christ is the ultimate leaven. Just look at the effect for good he has had on countless souls in this world alone. So don’t forget the importance of leaven in your food storage as well, unless you prefer unleavened bread.

Living Water for Life Water is of great importance. Christ is the living water. Those who receive Him will never thirst again we

Page 10: Prepare Every Needful Thing - BYU Women's Conference · 2015-11-12 · Prepare Every Needful Thing If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear We are living in the perilous times of the

10

are told (see John 4:10). How do we receive the Living Water? By making Jesus Christ the center of our lives, through obedience, prayer, feasting on His words and taking up our cross and following Him. Water is life giving; without it there is no life. Without Christ there is no eternal life. Water is an important part of our preparedness. Store water for times of emergency when water supplies could be interrupted or polluted. Also, water filtration bottles can be of great worth; just ask the missionaries in Chile. “A few months before the quake we had a mission meeting on emergency preparedness and President Swenson outlined an emergency plan which included where the missionaries should meet up in the event of an emergency. He instructed them specifically on what to do in the event of an earthquake. The First Presidency sent the missionaries water bottles with a built-in water filtration system and water filtering tablets. The water bottles have been a life saver and all the missionaries are using them.” Elder Riley Harper (Chile, Concepcion South Mission)

The Temple and Places of Refuge The temple is another very important symbol to consider in our preparation. The temple is a place of refuge from the world, a place of peace and of revelation. A place where we receive all the ordinances and learning that will allow us to walk back into the presence of God, as we are obedient. Our bodies are also temples that house our spirits as well as the Holy Ghost. For this reason it is very important that we keep our temples clean through repentance and pure by being very conscious of what we allow into them, both in the food we eat and substances we take, as well as the things we let into our mind. We must always be on our guard. Our homes can be like a temple, a place where we are safe and things of the world are left

Page 11: Prepare Every Needful Thing - BYU Women's Conference · 2015-11-12 · Prepare Every Needful Thing If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear We are living in the perilous times of the

11

behind. In the history of the people of God, there have been times when the Lord has had to lead His people to places of safety. President Howard W. Hunter said, “I promise you in the name of the Lord, whose servant I am, that God will always protect and care for his people. We will have our difficulties the way every generation and people have had difficulties. But with the gospel of Jesus Christ, you have every hope and promise and reassurance. The Lord has power over his Saints and will always prepare places of peace, defense, and safety for his people. When we have faith in God we can hope for a better world-for us personally, and for all mankind.” If you study the accounts of the people that the Lord led to places of safety, it seems that they always traveled with the use of tents. Maybe it would be a good idea to prepare in case we had to live for a time in a tent in or on the way to a place of refuge. Think about the things you might need if were going on an extended camping trip.

Fire To Warm The Soul In the scriptures fire is use for different things. When we receive and keep the Holy Ghost with us we can receive the baptism of fire spoken of by Nephi (see 2 Nephi 31:15). Having the witness of the spirit is often called a burning in the bosom. We all have need of the sanctifying power of the companionship of the Holy Ghost. I think of the fire of the covenant. Keeping our covenants, especially temple covenants, endows us with power from on high (see 1 Nephi 14:14). On another level we may be wise especially in climates with very cold winters to prepare for emergency sources of fire or warmth, such as a wood burning stove, a propane heater, etc. with fuel to run them. Also as President Hinckley said, “clothing to keep us warm.”

Page 12: Prepare Every Needful Thing - BYU Women's Conference · 2015-11-12 · Prepare Every Needful Thing If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear We are living in the perilous times of the

12

The Lord’s Law of Finance or Abundance One more thing we need to consider is the Lord’s law of finance. We have been given a promise that if we pay a full tithe that the windows of heaven will be opened and pour out upon us great blessings (see Malachi 3:10). This is true and I would add to that pay a generous fast offering too and the floodgates will open to pour out blessings. A few years ago our stake president counseled us to get our food storage and added this promise: if we would double our fast offering that we would be blessed with the means to get our food storage in that year. We felt we were already paying a generous fast offering but decided to take the challenge.

It was truly miraculous how money came in many unexpected ways to help us with our food storage. I had an experience where I was stopped for going 10 miles over the speed limit. Let me explain, I had recently moved to a new area and somehow I had missed the 25 mph sign in this short stretch close to my home. I know ignorance is not a good excuse. Anyway as I pulled over with thoughts of my auto insurance going up I said, “Heavenly Father I can’t believe I did this”. The policeman let me off with only a warning. The impression came into my mind strongly that I had been blessed because I had doubled my fast offering. Later recounting this experience to a friend, she said you have no idea how much that was a blessing. She had been stopped in the same area that week and she said that she was good at talking her way out of tickets, but that the policeman told her that the police in our town wanted to be known as the tough police and that they never gave warnings.

As we pay our tithing and a generous fast offering the Lord will bless us and as we make the effort to say, as Elder Hales counseled, “we can’t afford that” more often we will be able to put away a little money for a rainy day. I had difficulty saving when my husband was making his full salary, but when his salary was cut in half I found ways to be more frugal and now that he is back to three fourths

Page 13: Prepare Every Needful Thing - BYU Women's Conference · 2015-11-12 · Prepare Every Needful Thing If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear We are living in the perilous times of the

13

salary we are saving more than we thought possible. The Lord has many ways to teach us.

Faithful Obedience Opens the Way It is a great comfort to know that as we follow the counsel of the prophets that we need not fear. I had an interesting experience about a year and a half ago. My sister Ann had been talking to me about food storage and preparedness. At the time my husband’s salary had just been cut in half and even though I would have liked to get more storage items I felt it was not possible. One afternoon I was working in the kitchen when a strong feeling of fear suddenly came over me. It didn’t last very long. As I prayed about it I felt that I had been given that feeling because indeed I was not as prepared as I should be. I prayed and told Heavenly Father that if He wanted me to work on my food storage that He would have to bless me with the money to be able to do so, because we were just barely making it as it was. Immediately came into my mind the fact that when we had recently balanced the checkbook we had found that we had $100.00 more in our account than we thought we had. I knew that money was for my food storage. Over the next couple of weeks we had other unexpected money come our way. I know that when we have a desire to be obedient, and exercise faith in the Lord, miracles can happen to allow us to accomplish the things He wants us to do.

Where to Start Now if you are just getting started in food and other storage preparedness, the important thing is to start now, because obedience will bring blessings. Your small efforts can be magnified with the Lord’s help. Rely on the spirit to guide you in what is most important for your family. Pray for guidance. If you can only buy an extra can of something a week, start there. You can store water in soda and other hard plastic bottles. If you have a church cannery close, visit it and see what is there that you might be able to purchase; they have very reasonable prices.

Be of Good Cheer Finally, as President Monson has said, “The Future Is As Bright As Your Faith.” So be of good cheer. We have amazing times in our future. May the Lord bless us to have the faith to follow the prophet for he does know the way. “We testify that he is the Lord’s mouthpiece here on Earth, and that Jesus Christ is our Savior and he will return”(Ann

Stauffer & Linda Davis). May we be ready when he calls us to the wedding feast, by preparing every needful thing.

Prepare to Meet the Lord By Linda Davis

Prepare! Prepare! Prepare ye the way of the Lord.

He stands in judgment, in his hand a two edged sword. His righteous sons and daughters will heed the warning sign, As the powers of darkness gather to fulfill their evil design.

It is time to light our candles for all the world to see, To draw the righteous unto us and cause the wicked to flee. While the world goes on rejecting Christ, living in the dark,

The faithful are preparing on their missions to embark. Prepare! Prepare! Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Gird on now your armor hold fast to your sword.

Listen to the prophet for he will point for us the way.

The call comes from Father for his children to kneel and pray, That they might be endowed with power from on high,

For the battle is now ensuing and the harvest time if nigh. The faithless fear and tremble, Zion arises now in might. For us the darkness scatters, in the presence of His light. The angels stand upon the Earth their mission to fulfill.

Behold the Bridegroom cometh, in his hand there is a seal. Prepare! Prepare! Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Gird on now your armor hold fast to your sword.

It is time to trim our lamps, and join the wedding feast.

We are calm as a summer’s morning, fearing not the beast. The sign of the Son of Man approaches, the wicked flee to hide.

He comes! He comes! All the hosts of Heaven by his side. The veil over the Earth is lifted. Behold his radiant face.

Caught up, with joy, we meet him; made pure through his grace. We sing the song of redeeming love to Jesus Christ our king.

The Earth now cleansed by fire, terrestrial life to bring. Satan bound for a thousand years. The Earth can finally rest.

Those who have waited upon the Lord now enter into his rest.

Linda’s Whole Wheat Bread

Combine in mixing bowl and wait for yeast to start growing about 5 minutes: 5 cups warm water 1/2 cup honey 3 tablespoons instant yeast Add and mix: 1 tablespoon salt 1/2 cup oil or applesauce With bread mixer running add 12 to 14 cup whole flour. I like to use either all white wheat flour or, 1/4 red wheat flour and 3/4 white wheat flour. Fresh ground is best. Add enough flour so that the dough cleans the bowl. Need for 10 minutes. Divide into loaves and place in well oiled and floured bread pans, or you can use a no stick spray. Let dough rise to double in pans. Back in preheated oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Makes 3 large and 1 small loaves. Enjoy!

“Prepare ye, Prepare ye for that which is to come, for the Lord is nigh”

- D&C (1:12)

“Will you be slack, brethren, and let the evil come upon us, when we forewarn you of the future events that are coming;... We

are telling of what the prophets have said-of what the Lord has said to Joseph. Wake up now, wake up, O Israel, and lay up your grain and your stores. I tell you that there is trouble coming upon the world...”

- Heber C. Kimball (Journal of Discourses, vol. 4, p. 336-9)

“Lay up your stores, and take your silks and fine things and exchange them for grain and such things as you need and the

time will come when we will be obliged to depend upon our own resources.; for the time is not far distant when the curtain will be dropped between us and the United States. When that time comes, brethren and sisters, you will wish you had commenced sooner to make your own clothing. I tell you God requires us to go into home manufacture; and prolong it as much as you like, you have got to do it.”

- Heber C. Kimball (Journal of Discourses, vol. 5, p. 10)

Concerning Preparedness...

“Recent surveys of the Church members have shown

a serious erosion in the number of families who have a year's supply of life's necessities. Most members plan to do it. Too few have begun.” Read More

“A great many have taken this counsel, and they are prepared...Who is deserving of praise? The persons who take care of themselves, or the ones who always trust in the great

mercies of the Lord to take care of them? It is just as consistent to expect that the Lord will supply us with fruit when we do not plant the trees; or that, when we do not plow and sow and are saved the labor of harvesting, we should cry to the Lord to save us from want, as to ask Him to save us from the consequences of our own folly, disobedience and waste..."The Lord has said, 'Gather and save the produce I put within your reach, and prepare against a day of want.”

- Brigham Young (ournal of Discourses, vol. 12, p. 244)

“And the time will come, when we shall find ourselves restricted, and when it will be very important indeed for us to patronize home productions, and cease sending our millions abroad for importations, for the gate will be shut down, and

circumstances will be such that we cannot bring things from abroad; and hence, the necessity of the exhortation that we have received from time to time, to engage with all our hearts in the various branches of industry necessary to make us self-sustaining and to carry them out with all the tact and wisdom which God has given to us, that we may become free and independent in all these matters, free before the heavens, and free from all nations of the earth and their productions, so as being dependent upon them is concerned.”

- Orson Pratt (Deseret Evening News, vol. 8, #265, October 1875.)

“Let every head of every household see to it that he has on hand enough food and clothing, and, where possible, fuel also, for at least a year ahead”

- J. Reuben Clark (General Conference April 1937.)

“Should the Lord decide at this time to cleanse the Church ... a famine in this land of one year's duration could wipe out a large percentage of sloughful members, including some ward

and stake officers. Yet we cannot say we have not been warned.”

- Ezra Taft Benson (General Conference, April 1965)

“For the righteous, the gospel provides a warning before calamity, a program for the crises, refuge for each disaster... The Lord has warned us of famines, but the righteous will

have listened to the prophets and stored at least one year's supply of survival food...”

- Ezra Taft Benson (General Conference, October 1973)

“The little gardens and a few trees are very valuable. I remember when the sisters used to say, `well, but we could buy it

at the store a lot cheaper than we could put it up.' But that isn't quite the answer, is it, Sister Spafford? Because there will become a time when there isn't a store.”

- Spencer W. Kimball (General Conference, April 1974)

“On the average, about 30 percent of the church has a two-month supply of food. The remainder have little or none...become self-sufficient as possible to prepare against the days to come.”

- Bishop H. Burke Peterson (General Conference October 1975)

“We encourage families to have on hand this year's supply and we say it over and over and over, and repeat over and over the scripture of the Lord where He says, `Why call ye me, Lord,

and do not as I say?'... We also hope that you are maintaining your year's supply of food, clothing, and where possible, some fuel and cash savings.”

- Spencer W. Kimball (General Conference, April 1976)

I stand before the Church this day and raise the warning voice. It is a prophetic voice, for I shall say only what the apostles and the prophets have spoken concerning our day. ...It is a voice calling upon the Lord's people to prepare for the troubles and desolations which are about to be poured upon the world without measure. For the moment, we live in a day of peace and prosperity but it shall not ever be thus. Great trials lie ahead. All of the sorrows and perils of the past are but a foretaste of what is yet to be. And we must prepare ourselves temporally and spiritually.”

- Bruce R. McConkie (General Conference April 1979)

“Too often we bask in our comfortable complacency and rationalize that the ravages of war, economic disaster, famine, and earthquake ... cannot happen here. Those who believe

this are either not acquainted with the revelations of the Lord, or they do not believe them. Those who smugly think these calamities will not happen, that they will somehow be set aside because of the righteousness of the Saints, are deceived and will rue the day they harbored such a delusion. The Lord has warned and forewarned us against a day of great tribulation and given us counsel through His servants, on how we can be prepared for these difficult times. Have we heeded His counsel?”

- Ezra Taft Benson (General Conference, October 1980)

“Plan to build up your food supply just as you would a savings account... We urge you to do this prayerfully and do it now.”

- Ezra Taft Benson (General Conference, October 1980)

“We feel the need to emphasize with greater clarity the obligation for members of the Church to become more independent and self reliant.”

- Gordon B. Hinckley (General Conference, April 1983)

“The counsel to have a year's supply of basic food, clothing, and commodities was given fifty years ago and has been repeated many times since. Every father and mother are the family's store keepers. They

should store whatever their own family would like to have in the case of an emergency...store a year's supply...that might keep us form starving in case of emergency.”

- James E. Faust (General Conference, April 1986)

“Recent surveys of the Church members have shown a serious erosion in the number of families who have a year's supply of life's necessities. Most members plan to do it. Too few

have begun.”

- Thomas S. Monson (September 1986 Ensign)

“I ask you earnestly, have you provided for your family a year's supply of food, clothing, and where possible, fuel? The revelation to produce and store food may be as essential to our

temporal welfare today as boarding the ark was to the people in the days of Noah.”

- Ezra Taft Benson (General Conference, October 1987)

“The kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God on the earth will be combined together at Christ's coming - and that time is not far distant. How I wish we could get the vision of this work, the genius of it, and realize the

nearness of that great event. I am sure it would have a sobering effect upon us if we realized what is before us.”

- Gordon B. Hinckley (General Conference, October 1992)

“I am suggesting that the time has come to get our houses in order.”

- Gordon B. Hinckley (General Conference, October 1998)

“Many more people could ride out the storm-tossed waves in their economic lives if they had their years supply of food and were debt-free. Today we find that many have followed this

counsel in reverse: they have at least a years supply of debt and are food-free.”

- Thomas S. Monson (Church News, May 12, 2001)

“Noah heeded God’s command to build an ark...that they might be saved from the floodwaters. Yet there was no evidence of rain and flood. His actions were considered irrational. The sun

was shining and life moved forward as usual. But time ran out. The floods came, the disobedient were drowned When God speaks and we obey, we will always be right.”

- Thomas S. Monson (October 2002 Ensign)
