Welcome to Movelle Primary SchoolStarting school is a very special time and an important milestone in the lives of children
and their families.
At Movelle we hope to make the experience of starting school enjoyable and positive for
both you and your child.
Our motto at Movelle is ‘Our Students, Our Future’, and we place every student in the
centre of all our work. We provide a positive, caring and engaging environment, where all students are able to maximise
academic, emotional and social growth.
We place a strong emphasis on both academics and student wellbeing, with processes and frameworks in place to ensure we
get the best out of each and every student.
We understand that 2020 has been a challenging year and as a result it has left families feeling anxious about their child
beginning Prep in 2021. We want to assure our families that we have put additional processes, opportunities and transitions in
place to support your child; recognising that children may have missed a lot of kindergarten in 2020.
If any of your questions remain unanswered please feel free to contact us here at school.

About Our SchoolMovelle Primary School first opened in 1970. We are a small school tucked away in a quiet area of Kings Park
with 200 students, incorporating 11 classes across Prep – Year Six.
We have some beautiful facilities including a dedicated Art Room with a kiln for students to enjoy a wide range
of art projects. Our gymnasium is utilised for our physical education classes and it also houses a stage and
stage lighting where students are involved in performing arts and performances throughout the year. We have a
dedicated classroom for LOTE classes and a colourful library where students can borrow books to take home.
We have our own newly refurbished canteen for students that is open each day and multipurpose room used for
assemblies.
Our outdoor space includes playground equipment designed for our
Prep – Year Two students and grassed areas for students to enjoy. We
have a full sized basketball court, oval and areas to play downball.
Our classrooms have all been updated with new carpet in 2020 and
also students tables, giving a clean and fresh feel to our school.

A Day in the Life of a Prep Student At Movelle!
8:50am Our Prep students arrive at school ready to start learning and their teachers are at the door ready to greet them
with a smile or a high five. They place their bag on the hook and sit down ready to learn.
Students place their name on the Zones of Regulation posters showing how they are feeling emotionally that
morning. Teacher will later check in on each student and see how they’re going.
Each classroom starts their day with ‘Morning Circle’ where students get a chance to say something, the
teacher may ask a question to set the scene for the day.
9:00am Students engage in two-hours of English classes where they are taught letter names and sounds (phonics),
Prior to school each morning, our Breakfast Club operates providing a free healthy breakfast for students who may otherwise

CurriculumAt Movelle Primary School, all our teachers collaborate in teams
each week to plan fun and engaging lessons that are targeted to
each student’s level. Lessons and programs are guided by the
Victorian Curriculum and student assessment data, which is
analysed to determine the best learning outcomes for our students.
We have our own Instructional Model which is evidence-based and provides a common approach to the way
teachers deliver lessons within our school. Our Instructional Model ensures all staff are delivering learning the
same way, and students know what is expected of them whichever class they may enter within the school.
Our Instructional Model is unpinned by the Gradual Release of Responsibility which ensures each student is
scaffolded throughout the entire learning process. Learning starts with the teacher providing explicit teaching and
guided instruction and as the learning develops students collaborate with their peers to support each other before
becoming independently responsible for their learning.
During the collaboration and independent stages, teachers are able to provide
differentiated one-on-one and small group interventions and extensions that are
tailored to the needs of all students to support them to achieve their learning goals.
At the start of each term we provide an overview of the curriculum your child will be
covering on our school website and Compass Parent Portal. This may also sometimes
include tips and resources for you to help build upon your child’s learning at home with
what they are learning in the classroom.

Curriculum
Maths
We provide real life and
hands on maths activities
each day.
Number fluency activities
are taught in each lesson.
Students are presented
with problem-based
maths approaches to
further their mathematical
thinking. The Mathletics
program is also used to
support learning.
Writing
We encourage daily
writing based on
shared and individual
experiences.
Students who are not
quite ready to write
are engaged in pre-
writing skills to further
develop their fine
motor skills.
Reading
We use a systematic and
comprehensive phonics program
that we use to educate students on
letter sound and knowledge.
We build a love of reading by
reading and sharing stories each
day, borrowing books from the
classroom and school libraries, and
taking books home to share with the
family.
We use the Fountas and Pinnell
Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI)
system to support students in
reading and comprehension. The
Reading Eggs program is also used
to support learning.
Speaking &
Listening
We help develop oral
language skills through
show and tell, working
in groups, and class
discussions. Students
are supported to speak
in front of small groups
and the class in both
informal and structured
settings.

Specialist Programs
Physical
Education

fun and energetic lessons
that focus on fundamental
motor skills, spatial
awareness, game sense
development and group
work skills. Students have
Physical Education for one
hour per week.
Digital
Technologies
With the use of iPads,
laptops, robots and lego,
our students are
provided with learning
that requires them to
problem solve and create
digital solutions.
Students learn skills that
meet current and future
needs.
Visual Arts
Our Art Room is a vibrant
space that always has
students creating amazing
pieces of art. The Art
program often links in with
classroom foci, as well as
studying famous artists and
different styles and
elements. Students have
one hour of Visual Arts per
week.
Performing
Arts
Students have the
opportunity to
experience music
and drama through
the use of various
instruments and
dramatic skills.

WellbeingStudent wellbeing is important to us here at Movelle and having a positive
acknowledgement system encompasses a big part of our school day. We
use the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework at Movelle to
support student behaviour and set students up for academic success. At
Movelle we pride ourselves on our school values of Respect,
Responsibility, Resilience and Relationships. Our mascot Ramsey plays
an important role in supporting students to uphold our values and Ramsey
Rewards tickets are awarded to students when they demonstrate our
school values. These tickets can be exchanged for prizes or used towards
raffles when enough tickets have been collected.
Emotional Learning
Plans
Each student has an
Emotional Learning Plan
where students reflect on
their emotions and identify
strategies to help them to
reengage back into their
learning. It also helps them
to identify people that can
help them do this.
11
Wellbeing
Students are involved in Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships
(RRRR) activities each week that promote and model respect, positive
attitudes and behaviours. The lessons teach our students how to build
healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.
Students in Prep are matched with a Year Six ‘buddy’ as part of the
Alannah and Madeline Foundation ‘Better Buddies’ Program. Our Prep
students have a buddy to turn to and help them settle into the school, whilst
our Year Six students learn skills such as responsibility, caring for others
and respect.
Students enter the classroom each morning and indicate how
they are feeling emotionally by placing their name on the Zones
of Regulation chart. Teachers can then ensure they check in with
each student and provide support when needed.
Meditation and Mindfulness occurs daily after break times to help
calm and settle students so that they are ready to learn again.
12
School and classroom librariesEach week, students are involved in a session in the school
library which is taken by their class teacher. These sessions focus
on fostering a love of reading as well as developing reading skills.
Students become familiar with how libraries are set up and are
encouraged to use their creative and critical thinking skills as they
analyse a range of different text types with their teacher.
Library books are borrowed out each week for students to bring
home and share their love of reading with you.
In addition to our school library, each classroom has its own
classroom library. These libraries have their own unique, fun
theme and are filled with a range of fiction, non fiction and
levelled texts. These libraries ensure that our students always
have easy access to a book and have a quiet and comfortable
place to read.
Students learn how to select ‘Just Right Books’ from their
classroom library to use during independent reading time each
day. During independent reading student build their reading
stamina while also developing their decoding and
comprehension skills.
STUDENT LEADERSHIPStudent leadership is strongly encouraged throughout our school. To support this, we
select School Captains, School Vice-Captains and House Captains each year. Our
School Captains and Vice-Captains lead and support many events we have throughout
the year. They also have other responsibilities including, running our school assemblies,
meeting frequently with the Principal to discuss school matters and to welcome and
introduce special guests to our school.
Our House Captains support our School Captains throughout the year. They represent
their house colours on special event days we have at the school and also provide the
sports report at assemblies and in the school newsletter.
We also have a Junior School Council where representatives
from each class meet regularly to put forward ideas and to
assist with activities. This important forum is a place where
students can have input into many areas of the school. They
are encouraged to canvas the views of their classmates to
bring to the council so that all students in our school have a
voice.
14Parent ParticipationThere are many ways you can become involved as a parent at Movelle Primary School. Whether it be helping in your child’s
classroom, helping out at an event, coming along to support special days we have, or just coming along to be a part of your
child’s schooling, we love parent participation and particularly the smile on your child’s face when you’re there.
Whole School events
We host many whole school events over the course of the year and we love to see parents getting involved. Book Week,
Literacy and Numeracy Week, Open Classroom afternoons, Special Person Days, School Fun Runs, Christmas Concerts,
Information Evenings,
School Council
School Councils play a key role in all Victorian government schools. Participating as a school council member is a rewarding
experience. The school council supports the principal to provide the best possible educational outcomes for students. We
welcome parents to be a part of our school council when nominations are sought.
The Fathering Project
The Fathering Project is a unique opportunity for our "Champion Dads’ to work together
as a group, with us as a school community and of course with your child/ren. Activities
may include; bike rides, building billy carts, flying kites, overnight camps, fun runs, sports
days and many more. Events will be regularly held at Movelle Primary School to provide
opportunities for our Movelle dads and male role models to come together, spend time
with their child/ren and network with the dads and males in our community.
15
Excursions, Incursions and CampsExcursions
are organised throughout the year
to support our curriculum learning.
They are designed to be fun,
informative and provide
experiences that complement
learning in class. Excursions our
students have been on in the past
include Melbourne/Werribee Zoos,
Movies, Traffic School,
Scienceworks, heritage sites,
Immigration Museum, Melbourne
Museum and city sights.
Incursions
are where we invite companies
into our school to deliver fun
and engaging programs to
enhance our classroom
learning. Incursions we have
had in the past include
companies delivering learning
about Science Week, Life
Education Van, hands on
maths, tennis, cricket and
emergency services such as
the fire brigade and police.
Camps
are offered throughout the year levels
in a variety of ways, making up our
important camping program. In Prep,
students develop independence by
having a Prep Breakfast where they
come to school in their pyjamas, have
breakfast with their friends and tidy up
after themselves. This includes
washing their own dishes, brushing
their teeth and then getting dressed
back into their school uniform. This
morning is always a hit! In Years 1
and 2, students stay late and
sleepover at school, Years 3-6
students are offered a camping
experience at a school camp facility.
Communication with FamiliesThere are many ways we communicate with
families here at Movelle Primary School.
Written Reports
Are provided to
parents and
students twice a
year. Teachers
report on student
achievements, as
well as areas in
which they can
improve.
Parent-Teacher
Interviews
These occur mid-year
to discuss student
progress and next
steps in their learning.
Teachers discuss
your child’s written
report.
Compass
Compass is a web-
based school
management system
that we use to inform
you of important
information, view your
child’s timetable,
provide notes for their
absence and
pay/consent for
excursions.
Informal Chats
Teachers are
available to chat to
before and after
school. If it’s a
lengthy chat, we
recommend
organising a day
and time with your
child’s teacher.
Newsletters
Newsletters are
sent out every
three weeks
outlining events,
achievements
and important
information.
School Assemblies
Whole school
assemblies are held
every three weeks and
families are always
invited to attend. We
celebrate achievements,
update our house
system points, provide
information to students
and families and have
performances.
Social Media
Our social
media accounts
highlight events
and student
learning/achiev
ements.

Out Of School Hours CareWe understand that many of our parents have busy lives with work commitments and school hours are
often not accommodating to your needs. Many of our families utilise the Outside School Hours Care
program that operates out of our neighbouring school and is run by OSHClub. Before school care runs
from 6:45am to 8:45am and After school care runs from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. Students are walked across in
the morning and picked up by staff members in the afternoon.
Students are engaged in a wide variety of structured, educational activities every day, including special
themed days (or weeks), lots of fun art and craft activities, cooking, drama, sport, science and more! They
also ensure children have the chance to complete their homework and lend a helping hand if required.
Students are supplied with breakfast and afternoon tea.
Many families are eligible for Child Care Subsidy, which reduces the out of pocket cost of outside school
hours care depending on your family circumstances.
18
Kinder to School Transition
Transition Sessions
At Movelle we have a structured
school transition program that
occurs in November and
December. We use these
sessions to get to know your
child, allow them to become
familiar with our school
environment, and allow the
teacher to understand the
particular learning needs of your
child.
Information Sessions
We offer parents an Information
Afternoon, as well as a
Question and Answer session
with the Principal Ms Wood
where information about our
school is shared with you.
Parents will receive a showbag
with information about our
school, and children will also
receive a showbag with
information to ensure a smooth
transition for them.
Prep Entry Interviews
In the first month of your child’s
schooling in 2021, your child will
have a scheduled interview on
ONE Wednesday where they
undertake an English and
Mathematics assessment task.
We also chat to you and your
child, and ask you to share
information about your child that
may help us make a smooth
transition for your child.
