Premonition Factory
Premonition Factory (Sjaak Overgaauw, The Netherlands) is a self-taught musician, currently
living in Antwerp, Belgium. Overgaauw has been writing and performing as Premonition Factory
since September 2009 and released the successful albums “59 Airplanes waiting for New York”
(2010) and “The Sense of Time“ (2011) on his own imaginary label Longstreet Records.
The music of Premonition Factory has been classified as ambient, with a touch of experimental
and avant-garde. A great deal of the music’s mesmerizing vibe draws on the fact that it is played
in real-time. While some other musicians use multi tracking to layer different shades of sound,
Overgaauw chooses to work with interactive live looping, which means sidestepping the usual
linear production and mixing scenario, to give birth to the music as it manifests itself in real time.

Reviews
“When the galactic hiss and solitary Piano droplets of the title track are suddenly washed over by
synthetically shining cinematic strings, the pulse rate accelerates and what seemed to nothing but
a dreamy Ambient track is transformed into a utopian piece of film-noir-orchestras. It is at this
point, at the very latest, that one realizes that his vision could never be reduced to the mere sum
of his influences” – Tobias Fisher, Tokafi, 2010
“This is delicate, sparse ambience is fresh and exciting , even as it soothes and relaxes. Every detail from the sonic clarity to the nuanced sounds to the gorgeous trifold digipak is expertly
executed. Highly recommended.” – Phil Derby, Electrospace Ambient, 2010
“The beautiful and catchy title ” 59 Airplanes waiting for New York “ and the particular sound are
breathing out the glory days of the first [Eno] and second ambient golf [Biosphere, The Orb, Sun
Electric]. This début is not exactly original, however the craftsmanship and love for this kind of
music makes you forget that at once." - Gonzo Circus, 2010
“One could easily argue that Vidna Obmana already made a strong point with that kind of music
through an immense catalogue of works, and that Overgaauw not necessarily adds much more to
it. That would be negative approach and one could more positively say that since Vidna Obmana is
no more, it has found a great successor in Premonition Factory.” That’s very much the same thingwith this new album too. It's great, late night, atmospheric dark ambient music and Premonition
Factory does a mighty fine job at creating such music."- FdW, Vital Weekly, 2011
“Heaps of deserved praise for an album that proves you don’t need to be innovative if you’re just
damn good. I’m not going to waste time by listing ambient giants that have gone before and
obviously inspired this music. Where some artists impress by pushing musical boundaries and
experimenting, Overgaauw achieves equally stunning results by mastering a tradition and refining
it. – O.S., Evening of Light, 2011
