Coursing is an athletic activity that can tax a dog’s physical strength. Dogs that are overweight and/or out of condition may be at greater risk for injury and exhaustion. The inspection committee has the authority to disallow a dog’s entry into a test and, in such instances, applicable entry fees will be refunded. At roll call, all dogs will be measured by a wicket to verify handicaps. Bitches in season, lame and unfit dogs will be excused with entry refunded. Please do not bring bitches in season to the test.
Entry Fee
$25.00 per entry per dog per test
(Includes $3.50 AKC recording fee)
Mail entries payable to ODTC to:
Mary Mynaugh, FTS 714 Chapelview Dr., Odenton, MD 21113
443-535-2155
Conditions of Entry
Entries will be limited to 80 dogs per event, two events daily running concurrently 8:00AM-4:00PM. All owners must sign a coronavirus waiver, all owners must wear a mask at all times unless in their own cars, and all owners must include a name in the signed entry form of a trusted friend or family member to release his/her dog. Failure to include a name also entered in these events to release your dog will void your entire entry. Clubs are restricted from handling dogs to mitigate COVID-19 disease transmission, the huntmaster and catch pen worker will be standing well outside of the course. The club table will also be off limits to everyone unless the owner is picking up awards. You may leave all your dog’s awards and pick them up on the last day you are entered. Run your dog with a small break between runs if entered twice, and promptly leave the property. Any deviation or refusal to cooperate with the host club regarding wearing a mask will result in a bench hearing and immediate Dogs must have an AKC registration number and be at least one year of age on the day of the trial. Dogs may only run once per test. One dog per entry form per test. All entries must be accompanied with a check to be valid. A returned check is not a valid entry. There will be a $35 fee for a returned check. Entries received by phone, text, or email will not be accepted. Incomplete entries or forms without signature will not be accepted.
Fast CAT events are open to all dogs at least 12 months of age that are individually registered with the AKC, recorded in the Foundation Stock Service (FSS) program, individually registered with a foreign or domestic registry organization whose pedigrees are acceptable for AKC registration, dogs granted a Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) number, dogs with AKC Limited or Conditional Registration, or dogs enrolled in the AKC Canine Partners program. Dogs with breed disqualifications and monorchid/cryptorchid dogs are eligible to participate. The Field Committee will examine dogs for lameness and disqualification prior to each run. Bitches known to be in season are not to be brought to the test. At inspection, bitches in season, lame and unfit dogs will be excused with entry refunded.
Hours
Grounds will be available by 7:30 AM each day. There will be no on-site trial briefing due to COVID-19 restrictions. Trial will begin promptly at 8:00AM with workers dogs and run until all runs are completed. 10-12 dogs will be scheduled to run each hour and consecutive trials will be in effect. Once your two runs are completed you MUST leave the grounds. It is the responsibility of each entrant to make an effort to be ready when their dog is called to the line.
Prizes
ODTC will offer a light blue flat ribbon for a passing qualifying run. ODTC will have a limited number of title rosettes available. Please notify the trial secretary, via email or include with your entry form, if you will be earning the following titles to ensure that the club will have rosettes available: BCAT ----- 150 points DCAT ----- 500 points FCAT --- 1,000 points FCAT2 - 1,500 points FCAT3………….
What is the Fast CAT?
Fast CAT is a timed straight 100-yard dash for dogs. Dogs are held at the start line and the coursing lure is activated prompting the dog to follow chasing it to the finish line and into a catch pen. The course is completely fenced, and dogs are run individually. Dogs are timed when they complete the 100-yard dash. The time is converted to Miles Per Hour (MPH). FORMULA: 204.545 / RUN TIME = MPH MPH X HANDICAP = POINTS (ROUNDED TO NEAREST 0.01) Based on the dog’s size at the withers a handicap is applied, and points are earned: • 18” or greater = Handicap is 1.0 • 12” up to less than 18” = Handicap is 1.5. • Below 12” = Handicap is 2.0. MPH X HANDICAP = POINTS Titles are earned at specific point levels and the highest suffix may appear after the dog’s name: BCAT = 150 points DCAT = 500 points FCAT = 1,000 points FCAT# = Each additional 500 points
Top 20 by Breed by Year
