The Fox Valley Park District’s Premiere Theatre Company offers a diverse curriculum of professional, educational and fun classes for all ages, including adults. Our performing arts instructors are all highly trained theatre professionals, looking to give each

participant a great class experience and foster their love of the arts. Our mission is to enhance and advocate artistic excellence through teaching, learning and expression.

PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY

The Premiere Theatre Company’s Performing Arts Academy offers instruction in core acting principles, improvisation techniques and exercises to challenge each actor as they progress through the program. Classes include script writing, playwriting and improv, among others. See page 72 for more information.

Premiere Theatre Company Internship

Free!The Premiere Theatre Company offers a volunteer internship for interested high school or college-aged students. This opportunity offers experience in behind-the-scenes technical skills, business and box office

administration and various production assignments. Interns must be available Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for 6 weeks, as well as performance dates. Successful participants in the program will leave with increased knowledge in theatre, volunteer hours, a letter of recommendation and a reference. (KD)

Theatre Guild Private Coaching

The Fox Valley Theatre Guild is a group of adults in the Fox Valley community interested in performing arts and supporting the arts in the community. Their goal is to provide opportunities

for adults to perform and expand their skills both on stage and off stage.

In addition, they endeavor to create initiatives to expose underserved youth in the community to the performing arts. The Theatre Guild Board of Directors meets monthly on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.; all are welcome to attend. Quarterly general membership meetings are also held and interested adults are encouraged to attend.

Time to let loose! Anyone who enjoys Saturday Night Live or Whose Line Is It Anyway? will love contributing to this exciting improvisation group run by the Premiere

Theatre Company. Members will try new improvisational acting techniques, exercises, skits and games led by a professional Improv coach that will keep everyone thinking and laughing the entire class. The group typically meets Sundays at 6:30 p.m., but schedule varies by availability of troupe members. Ages 18 and up. To join, please call Kyle at 630-966-4548. (KD)

PAGEANT COACHING

Private coaching is available for pageant contestants who are serious about taking home the crown. Work with a pageant professional to develop wholly and individually. Each girl and teen capitalizes on her values, strengths and passion. Coaching is individualized according to the student’s interests and ability level. Strengthen intensive mock interview skills, onstage introduction and presence, photography preparation for headshots and portfolios, or hair/makeup/wardrobe direction. Fee is $18 per half hour for six-week sessions.

PRIVATE ACTING COACHING

Performers will excel with individual coaching by a theatre professional. Work toward a specific goal such as an audition monologue, particular role in a play, challenging scenes or movement and voice technique. Coaching is individualized according to the student’s interests and ability level. Fee is $36 per hour for three-week sessions.

PRIVATE SPEECH/DEBATE COACHING

Individualized training by a veteran Speech and Debate professional is available for students of all ages, with a focus on high school competitions. Coaching sessions include helping students develop a high level of competency writing and performing speeches, developing affirmative and negative strategies for and against a variety of debate case ideas. Fee is $18 per half hour for six-week sessions.

In the SpotlightSpring Shakespeare Dinner Theatre: ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’

A magical forest filled with some of Shakespeare’s most comedic characters makes this one of his most popular plays. When lovers cross with mischievous fairies in an enchanted

forest, a series of mishaps occur, and nothing is what it seems. Add to the mix a bevy of fumbling actors, and chaos ensues until dawn breaks, and all is once again right with the world. Actors are needed to portray a list of eccentric and fun characters. For auditions, prepare a monologue and be ready to read from the script. Performances will be May 16 and 17. (KD)

Perform It Workshop: ‘Frozen’Participants will learn songs, simple dances and short acting scenes from ‘Frozen’ to perform at a final showcase, enjoying an abbreviated experience

of being part of a show from beginning to end. The first week will include informal vocal auditions. Performers interested in solos and featured roles will be asked to sing a song of their choice a cappella (without accompaniment). Not all participants are required to audition. The final week will conclude with a showcase. Tickets are available beginning April 23 at Prisco Community Center. All participants must be able to read for music teaching and script reading. Costumes will be discussed during class and must be purchased by participants. The week of the performance includes an additional class on Monday, May 18. Performance is May 20. (KD)

Premiere Theatre Company Presents ‘HEIRS,’ A World Premiere

Free!The Premiere Theatre Company has produced an original play by playwright Therese Harrold entitled ‘Heirs.’ Three estranged adult siblings are forced to live together in their childhood home, which

they have inherited upon their mother’s recent death. The play opens a slightly comedic and bittersweet window into a family’s relationships as past confronts present. Adults and children are needed to portray a list of interesting characters. Those auditioning should prepare a monologue that is no longer than two minutes. Additional monologue options will be available at the front desk beginning April 14. Please bring a list of all rehearsal conflicts to the audition. Acting Studio Levels A-DThe Premiere Theatre Company’s professional instructor teaches core acting principles, improvisation

techniques and exercises. Class includes movement exercises, character work, scene study, mock auditions, improv and more. Levels within each class vary from Beginners/A through Intermediate/D, and class is tailored to fit the needs of the participants. The instructor will challenge actors, whether beginners or aspiring professionals, as they progress through the series. Acting Studio also helps sharpen confidence, communication, concentration, creativity, quick thinking and other essential life skills. Adults have used this class to improve public speaking skills and boost confidence for business presentations. (KD)

Write a Story, Create a Play & Script

While having fun with exciting props, art materials, costumes, set pieces and other actors,

participants are encouraged to discover characters, settings and stories. Using each participant’s ideas and imaginations, the instructor works to draw out fun and uplifting stories from natural settings to wacky new galaxies. Children collaborate to create characters and scenarios that will develop into a final showcase. No homework; all script development takes place during class. The final class is two hours long, which includes the showcase. (KD)

MusicDo, Re, Mi... harmonize your skills with Fox Valley Park District music programs. Enjoy choirs, choruses and chords with these music offerings for beginning musicians and more advanced maestros.

The Fox Valley Park District’s Adagio Music Studio provides a quality music education in a friendly, fun and professional atmosphere. Our music instructors are active musicians with excellent training and a passion for music education. PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS

Develop piano playing skills and progress in areas such as finger posture, counting and music theory appropriate to each student level. This class is for those just starting out or in the early stages of developing lifetime piano skills that are the foundation for all instrument playing. Fee is $20 per half hour for six-week sessions, and includes a spring and fall recital for current students.

PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS

Enjoy personalized vocal coaching on musical styles ranging from classical to musical theater to pop. Participants will practice breathing techniques, develop music reading skills and work toward singing a favorite song. Lessons are individualized according to the student’s interests and vocal ability level. Fee is $20 per half hour for six-week sessions.

PRIVATE GUITAR LESSONS

Learn guitar basics or dust off old guitar skills with individual guitar lessons. The guitar instructor will tailor lessons to each student’s musical interests and abilities, providing an opportunity to learn guitar chords, guitar scales, lead guitar, blues guitar, playing with or without a pick and more. Participants must provide their own guitar. Fee is $18 per half hour for six-week sessions.

PRIVATE SAXOPHONE, FLUTE OR CLARINET LESSONS

Enjoy personalized music lessons for beginner or intermediate woodwind players ranging anywhere from classical to jazz musical styles. Build and improve skills for band class, personal interest or solo playing. Instructor will tailor lessons to each student’s musical interests and abilities, providing an opportunity to develop music reading skills and nurturing a lifetime of music skills.
