Ladies Premier 2 vs Vic Park (Lost 1 - 2)Goals: E. StrattonAnother difficult yet crucial game this week to get points on the board. Knowing full well that Vic Park wouldn't be a push over, we focused in on the tactics and knew we had to put our best foot forward. The first half was full of intense pressure from both sides, our team defended very well to keep out Vic Park's strong attack, yet we couldn't release the ball up the field to allow us to have many scoring opportunities. The lack of using each line of our team proved game changing, letting in a goal after the ball being pressed in our defensive half. We then levelled the scores with a very proactive Lizzie dancing around in the D to put the ball away. After more pressure from Vic Park in our defensive half, and us continuing to bypass our midfield, Vic Park eventually broke through and scored the winner. Positives were that we managed to be more threatening in and around the D compared to the previous games, but this time we lacked the patience and composure to play the small game and use our midfield, limiting how many scoring opportunities we had. The team is desperate for a win and getting some much needed points on the board, but the desperation needs to span across training, pre-game and during game for that to happen.

Ladies Premier Alliance vs Vic Park (Won 5 - 2)Best: C. Surman, J. Gallimore, B. ColemanGoals: C. Surman (3), G. Bowyer, J. HydeAccording to the umpire it was "nice that we woke up in the 2nd half".Harsh but true - but what a 2nd half it was! After the half time break we were 1-0 down, but by using our pace up the right and a few classy goals from Chooky we managed to take out a well deserved 5-2 win against a previously undefeated Vic Park team. Well done ladies!

PROVISIONAL LEAGUEMens Provisional 2 Gold vs UWA (Drew 1 - 1)Best: B. Wake, N. Rowden, B. JossGoals: G. WattonNotwithstanding having to accommodate a few changes to the set up to deal with absences - the scoreline was a disappointing result given we still managed to generate plenty of opportunity. Welcome to Doug for his first run, and let's hope this is the Draw we had to have.......

Ladies Provisional 2 Black vs Vic Park (Won 3 - 0) 2015-06-07Best: M. Woodforde, S. Gallimore, K. Sparkes, K. Atkinson, Goals: K. Atkinson, M. Regan, K. SparkesAnother win on the board, That makes us undefeated for the first round - yay!! Everyone had a good game, and once we shook off the first 10 minutes and got out off the 'right side rutt' and started really moving the ball it was a good game.We were however a bit on the flat side, but hopefully we can shake that off, have a few good hard training sessions over the next two weeks and come back stronger and hungrier after our umpiring bye.

Ladies Provisional 2 Gold vs Kalamunda (Drew 1 - 1) 2015-05-03Best: E. Joynes, L. Blechynden, J. OldeGoals: R. WoodGot rained on this week but we still kept running, even with one of our regular fullback's out injured. Was a good fight from our girls - even if Jo took it that little bit too far by dislocating her shoulder. Stay healthy and whole, ladies!

Ladies Provisional 2 Gold vs Lions (Lost 1 - 3) 2015-05-09Best: J. Olde, R. Wood, E. JoynesGoals: N. StevensThe advantage of our home turf didn't quite pay off for us this week, going down to the Lions. Good old Nia still managed to score for us.

Ladies Provisional 2 Gold vs Vic Park (Won 6 - 1) 2015-05-24Best: J. Olde, N. Stevens, S. KingGoals: N. Stevens (4), S. King, C. BirdWe turned up to UWA nervously, without our goalie. Fortunately, juniors goalie Lisa stepped up to the plate... and what a fantastic game it was! A great win that we deserved, ladies!

LawrenceAlways going to be a tough game with some new players in the team and players playing out of position. Welcome Roger played a good game despite not having played for a while. Didn't think the umpires really controlled the game as far as rough play was concerned (they won't be able to get away with it with finals umpires) Overall with only ten players on the field we managed to get the final two goals and had some outstanding field play from our midfield and forward players. Well Done

Mens O50 Division 1 vs Vic Park (Won 2 - 0)Best: D. Loffell, G. Currie, L. Bint/M. WatsonGoals: D. Loffell, A. ChellewA solid team contribution that produced a win against the top team which had untill now had been undefeated. Again solid defence with good movement of the ball to the forwards who provided good run and ball movement and tenacity in front off goals. A goal in each half secured a well deserved win.

Mens O50 Division 2 Gold vs Vic Park (Won 5 - 0)Best: A. Spear, M. Pitcher, A. MarshallGoals: M. Pitcher (2), A. Spear (2), A. MarshallIt was great to turn the tables on Vic Park after we lost to them in the first round. Unlike the first 7 rounds we finally found the back of the net from our numerous opportunities which should have seen the score line in double figures. We don’t like to be critical of any one player but this time we’ll make an exception. Harps was dragged from the field to receive a tongue lashing from the sideline coaches after missing 3 dead certs in the first half then only to return in the second to repeat the performance. It must have been due to him being so distraught after the Dockers first loss for the season. Thanks to Wayne Hudson for filling in for us again and congratulations for recording a clean slate for both the 1s & 2s.

Mens O50 Division 3 vs Rockingham (Lost 0 - 3)Best: T. Patton, B. Porter, R. PreedyLost 3 - 0 to Rockingham. We tried hard all day. It was a great team effort and we certainly put them under pressure. At the end of the day we were undermanned against a good side but everyone who played should be proud of their effort

Mens O60 Division vs Wasps (Lost 0 - 4)Best: G. Riley, G. Wood, P. Oudejans/J. SmithWe once again came up against the top team on their home ground. We played most of the game in our back half where Geoff played a blinder in the goals. We were able to restrict their number of short corners but they have many State representatives and just kept coming. Graham was back for his second game and his brilliant corner flick hit the cross bar. I reckon it might catch other teams out as well as you don't often see it in our age group. Overall a good effort against strong opposition.

JUNIORSBoys 11/12ABest: M. Tate, J. Rayfield, H. LockGoals: M. Tate (3), C. Thompson, A. Howells, A. RayfieldNot quite a comprehensive victory but our best goal tally yet. We still have some controllable components we need to improve on for the pointy end of the season but we are progressing consistently.

Boys 11/12B vs NC Knights (Lost 0 - 0)Forfeit due to player numbers

Girls 11/12B vs Canning (Lost 1 - 3)Goals: B. IrvineGreat game played by the Melville girls dominating the first half, with a beautiful goal scored by Bailey, Alice was amazing all over the field, was exhausting just watching her on the side lines. Top effort despite no subs again.

Boys 9/10A Goals: K. PotterFantastic game of hockey - this group arrived as a force at this level today. Against an unbeaten team full of state players we held our own not due to luck but due to our effort and our belief in each other and in our process. Our next challenge is to reproduce the same level next week and every week for the rest of the year.

Girls 9/10A vs Westside Wolves (Lost 1 - 2) Goals: J. VanderzwanIt was a hard match this week and we finally gelled in the last10 mins to show what we can do when we believe in ourselves and go back to basic good teamwork and hockey. Congrats to Annie for her consistency, Molly and Jo for sustained effort and the Full Backs for their multi-tasking. A special mention for Sarah who was not playing in her usual position and took the opportunity to ask lots of questions and try so hard- great attitude! Looking forward to next week to see all the girls at training - if we're all there we will see the results on the field without doubt!

Boys 9/10A Reserve vs Westside Wolves (Lost 0 - 8)Best: L. Metcalf, B. Cole, B. DelaneyToday we came up against a side who played simple hockey and executed their game plan very well. They worked hard for each other and played as a team. In patches we did the same and showed what we are capable of but we need to do it consistently throughout a game.Wolves are far and away the best team in our grade and they have easily beaten every team they have played so far but we can take some valuable lessons out of today, especially the importance of everyone doing their job as in my opinion this is really what separated the two sides. The message is simple, do your job on the field, work hard on your basics and endeavour to do them well because it is those foundations that will make you a better player.

Girls 9/10A Reserve vs Westside Wolves (Grey) (Lost 0 - 1)Best: I. Piggford, C. Power, J. ChristieA disappointing end to an otherwise even match, with the game being snatched in the last few minutes of the second half. A bit more hunger in this game and I think the girls could have made it across the line, but a courageous effort none the less, considering a few of the girls were struggling with illness.

Boys 9/10B (Black) vs Rockingham (Won 13 - 1)Best: L. Farrow, M. Harrup, M. GillardGoals: L. Farrow (5), M. Gillard (2), R. Needham (2), G. Hyde, S. McKinnon, B. Munnings, M. OgdenA comprehensive performance this week against a Rockingham team that gave it their all despite the uneven score line. The great things this week were we went hard at the contests and played our roles with great precision. The goals were well constructed from short passing team play and despite the very happy coach moving players around and benching our regular midfield, the team kept going well. We have tough games against the other top 4 sides in the coming weeks and that will be another challenge for us to face head on. Well done boys!

Girls 9/10B (Gold) vs Fremantle (Lost 0 - 3)Fantastic game girls, could have gone either way. We had a few attacking runs and the score by no means reflected the play. Some things to work on but great to hear calling for the ball and see players making leads. Looking forward to next weeks game

Boys 7/8A vs Westside Wolves (Lost 1 - 6)Best: D. Parkes, J. Needham, L. PageGoals: D. MoulinThe game started on a high with Melville scoring the first goal. Ben Harel hit to Daniel Moulin who then "tapped" it in. It was great play. Our competition was strong though and it did not take the Westside Wolves long to "bounce back" and take a convincing win. Declan Parkes, Jaymon Needham and Liam Page all played well with an oustanding effort in the gaols by Zac McKinnon. I am sure the result would have been significantly worse if it was not for the strong goal keeping by Zac !

Girls 7/8A vs Wolves (Won 3 - 0)Best: Excellent Team EffortGoals: L. Cocks, G. Farrow, S. HasselerharmEveryone won decisive plays over the course of the game which gave us a quality win. From Coco, in goals, making saves and clearing the ball beautifully to Lucy and Neasa setting up goals at the other end of the ground, the girls put together their best team-hockey game of the season. Our halfbacks were superb: Lana had the best of a quality right wing while Chloe and Sarah dominated the midfield and set up our forwards with really intelligent passes. Jayde and Kate, too, were part of that winning midfield and provided relentless pressure on the Wolves defence. Well done girls. Heal quickly Gabby and get well quickly Needy and Saoirse.

Girls 7/8A Reserve vs Wolves (Lost 0 - 2)Best: C. Bentley, O. Patton, T. GrowdonThe only disappointment from this weeks game was the result. We have and can play better than that. We will be concentrating over the coming weeks on our disposals as just throwing blind passes direct to opposition players needs to be countered. But in our favour was the main component of our defensive press which we dramatically improved on this week. The talking amongst the girls to set up our hotline in both our defensive and attacking halves was fantastic. This resulted in many opportunities being presented and it was this we will build on.

Boys 7/8B (Black) vs Wolves (Won 2 - 1)Best: Team effortGoals: N. Thompson, B. DeaconThe top of the table clash lived up to expectations.Probably our best defensive effort for the season limiting the scoring opportunities for Wolves, Our attack as usual looked dangerous and with a little luck could have put a couple more goals in the net.

While generally happy with the performance, at times our skill levels were to say the least very ordinary. On several occasions our hitting was dismal, and this directly contributed to the goal scored against us. However, the positives are far ahead of the negatives, and with a little more work at training we will only get better.

Girls 7/8B (Gold) vs Hale(navy) (Drew 1 - 1) 2015-06-07Best: L. Skipsey, M. Frossos, N. ChampionGoals: N. ChampionAnother well matched game for the girls this week. Great play by Lily Skipsy as half back. Lots of the ball in our forward half and a great goal from Nikki Champion in the second half to level the score 1-1. We had quite a few chances to score again in the end stages of the game and the spectators where on the edge of their seats a few times. Well done girls.

Boys 7/8C vs North Coast Raiders (Won 2 - 1) 2015-06-06Best: B. Creighton, B. Abrahams, D. CroweGoals: K. Dyson, B. CreightonAssistant coach Alex gave the boys a bit of advice on goal scoring at training. "A hard push in the corner and you'll score ever time." The result. 2 goals from 2 shots that were pushed into the corner. A well deserved win for the boys as we welcomed back a full team after injuries and holidays in recent weeks. The big area that still needs work is when we get a free hit, we need to start moving to open up spaces for our forwards to run into. As discussed on the weekend, the time to fix this is at training so hopefully we may have a few more that are switched on. Otherwise a very good and well deserved win, well done boys.

Girls 5/6A vs UWA (Lost 1 - 3) 2Best: Z. Arthur, C. Evans, M. ChanterGoals: K. StudleyA bit of a slow start back after the week off, ended half time 1-0 up after a lovely goal by Kiana. Unfortunately in the second half we just couldnt break through their press to get the ball out of defence and transition into attack. Great effort by all defensive players who worked tirelessly. Keep working on your passing, teamwork and composure girls and you will improve every week.

Boys 5/6A Promotion vs Joondalup Lakers (Won 1 - 0) Goals: E. ElliottMelville headed north to Illuka to face top of ladder team Joondalup Lakers who had won all of their first three games, setting the scene where our boys needed to be switched on from the first whistle. Melville were first on the board, with a conversion from a short corner set play resulting in Ethan Elliott smashing it into the backboards. Melville controlled the game with excellent team work and tough midfield performance lead by Bailey Hardy, Angus Bell and Lachlan Drake-Brockman limiting Lakers run to just a few shots. Melville had opportunity to slot a few more goals throughout the match but thought they would rather keep their parents on the edge of their seats right to the final whistle with a 1-0 win.

Boys 5/6B Gold vs Fremantle (Drew 0 - 0) Melville 5/6B Boys played impressively in a tough 0:0 draw against second ranked Fremantle. Melville spent the majority of the game in the oppositions half through good defence work and quick clean passing on the wings. The forwards worked hard but went unrewarded at the final whistle. Vigour and determination was evident in everyone on the field resulting in a entertaining and enjoyable match.

Boys 5/6C Gold vs Southern River (Won 1 - 0)Best: M. Hellberg, J. Foss, Q. BrandsGoals: M. HellbergA stronger game at Stevens Reserve this week with our team working hard. Good team work and determined play saw us get through Southern River and score the only goal of the game. Good marking in defence and a better spread in offence created some good opportunities to score. We had good forward pressure and some very exciting runs. In defence our players showed genuine resilience in preventing goals being scored against us.

Girls 5/6C vs Westside Wolves (Lost 0 - 1)Todays game was a real reflection on having had a week off both playing and training. In contrast to their last game, the girls really struggled to hold their positions or to link up their passes to each other. There were still some really great passages of play and the girls should be proud of their efforts and I am sure next week they will be back to the great form they showed a few weeks back.
