Preliminary Task Evaluation Name: Will JacksonIn a group with: Joe Gordon, Sian Knapp and Bobbie

Brader Write about the preliminary task. What were you asked to do? How did you find each

stage of the process? We were asked to make a short film opening using

different camera and editing techniques. There were 5 different scenes altogether and all of tem included different shots. One person was recorded walking towards a doorway, the door, walking through the door into a room and sitting down. They then had to have a small conversation with another person. We then tried to edit the cuts together to make it look continuous.

Write the 3 techniques/rules you learned about during the preliminary task:

I learnt about how sounds and props can affect the continuity. If in one scene the door made a noise, but then made a totally different one in the next, it would seem suspicious. Also, there was a clock that needed taking down because it would have shown a massive difference in time between one shot and the next. The 180 degree rule was something new I learned. Going over a certain camera line after the first shot in the room was made would cause confusion and make it look like both people in the conversation were looking in the same direction. I also how to perform/film an over the shoulder shot effectively.

List three things that went well during the filming/editing process:

1. The panning shot that followed Joe down the corridor was smooth and looked very professional 2. The conversation worked well because the script was kept short and sweet and it also involved a prop.3. The editing of the video went well, because I believe the end product looks very good and it is also continuous List three things you think could have been improved in these stages:

Page 2: Preliminary task evaluation

1. I think the acting at some stages could have been improved because the actors laughed a lot during filming. 2. I think the editing could have been improved by myself adding some credits in to it.3. I also think the second over the shoulder shot could have been improved by moving the camera back slightly Has the preliminary task given you any ideas for you 2-minute film opening? If so, what? The preliminary task has helped me in many ways, firstly it as taught me many different camera angles/shots. It also gave me a chance to use the editing software, which will make it easier for when we have to edit the 2 minute video. I will take the techniques into account for the future. I’d consider using Close ups because it really shows the expression on the actors face.
