SPEAKERS

REDMOND RAMOS TUESDAY, 8:30 AM

Ramos deployed to Afghanistan as a combat replacement for 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, Navy Corpsman. While in Afghanistan, Ramos was rushing to assist an injured Marine when he stepped on an IED, losing his left leg. He won his Warrior Games medals just seven months after his injury.

Ramos has been involved in public speaking since 2008. While in the military, he was always striving to teach his junior Corpsmen (field medics) and Marines combat trauma management. Ramos was in charge of training the Japanese Self Defense Force ( JSDF) in combat medicine during Exercise Forest Light 2010 in Sekiyama, Japan.

The day Ramos left the military, he began teaching tactical combat medicine as a civilian contractor for the military. He then found happiness in speaking for the Elizabeth Hospice Center. Being able

to thank WWII veterans and their families for their service was an experience like no other. A year later, he was speaking for the hospice center by day and teaching tactical medicine by night.

Ken Lynch, a recognized expert in Human Resources (HR), is a best-selling author, business executive, corporate trainer, consultant, educator, guest speaker and mentor with experience in start-ups and established organizations, both for-profit and not-for-profit. Ken is also a Veteran of the U.S. Army and works with Veterans in their transition back into the civilian workforce. He is the founder of two HR resources to aid the HR community: The HR Network and The HR Diner. CHRISTINE MCKINLEY WEDNESDAY, 8:30 AM

Christine McKinley grew up in Alaska, and then attended Catholic high school in California, despite not being Catholic. McKinley is a licensed mechanical engineer, performing musician, and host of History Channel’s “Decoded.” Her musical about physics and Catholic school, “Gracie and the Atom,” received an NEA grant and a 2010 Portland Drammy Original Score award. Her engineering career has included work building power plants, designing HVAC systems, and commissioning mechanical systems for hospitals, schools, and semiconductor fabs. McKinley relies on the laws of physics for guidance and inspiration. Her book, Physics for Rock Stars explains why the laws of gravity are comforting in hard times and how to use the Periodic Table as a guide for dating. It was published by Penguin in 2012 and has been translated into Chinese and Korean.The Power of Facts: How Trust is Earned (and Burned)

Christine McKinley’s book, Physics for Rock Stars describes how the laws of gravity, motion, and energy are the most reliable practical and personal guide available. The reason for this is simple: Physics is a statement of the truth. And even when the truth is hard to take, progress can’t be made by avoiding it.

In Christine’s ACIL address, she will make the case that the way to promote lasting trust in anything (products, agencies, medicines, material samples) is to know the truth about it. She will reinforce to the members of the ACIL that they are sometimes in an uncomfortable position. Sometimes the truth they must report holds up a schedule, increases cost, or stops a product launch. But the alternative is far worse. Christine will use some tragic and hilarious examples of a “non-truth” building into a disaster to remind the ACIL members why their work is more than simply testing and reporting.

Jason Greer is founder and President of Greer Consulting, Inc. (GCI), a Labor Management and Employee Relations Consulting firm.

Mr. Greer combines his natural wit and storytelling ability with his experience in counseling, training and conflict resolution. He speaks to managing through personal and corporate growth while maintaining an intimate connection to the human components that define us and make our respective cultures special.

Mr. Greer is widely known for his work in the area of racial reconciliation based upon his experiences as a victim of cross burnings and racial harassment by the Knights of Ku Klux Klan. This story and the resulting lessons have been given new perspective in his keynote, Diversity & The Brain: What’s Your Story?, wherein he

champions and celebrates diversity as a means of overcoming barriers to success and experiencing the best that an organization and/or community has to offer.

Presentation is all about removing the stigma associated with Diversity and teaching people to embrace our commonalities without focusing unnecessary attention on our differences. By tapping into our internal “stories” we begin to understand how to look beyond surface level details such as color, gender, sexual orientation, etc. By focusing in on breaking down the proverbial walls that separate us, companies and organizations will realize a greater sense of relatedness and productivity among the work force. Jason Greer’s approach to diversity training has been described as a “complete breath of fresh air” because he expands the conversation about diversity. He inspires and challenges the audience in such a way that people walk away with a greater understanding and appreciation of our commonalities. Jason digs deep below the surface of the issues, exploring how the human brain comes pre-hard-wired to send cautionary alerts when faced with input from “others” that are not like us. A half an hour east of Portland you can find some of the most magnificent scenery in the country — skyscraper cliffs, giant sturgeon, and majestic waterfalls. During the last ice age, a cataclysmic event occurred, that left a lasting monument along the path of the mighty Columbia River. A great flood sheared away the land, leaving stone cliffs and water falls that form the world famous “Columbia River Gorge”.

View the majesty from the Vista House atop 800-foot sheer rock cliffs, see Multnomah Falls (the second tallest year round waterfall in the country), or witness the free-falling splendour of Latourell Falls. In the autumn, you can witness salmon spawning in nearby Eagle Creek.

FUN FACT: The Columbia River Gorge is unique in many ways. Even though it is dramatic in it’s depth and size, it was only formed approximately 15 thousand years ago, during the last ice age. This is almost contemporary, in geologic terms. It is also home to the tallest waterfall in Oregon, Multnomah Falls, which is over twice the height of the Statue of Liberty!

ACIL continues its tradition with the fifth annual Golf Tournament. Stay tuned for more information and registration on the golf tournament.

We will make our first stop at Sokol Blosser Winery. Located in the beautiful Willamette Valley, this area has become best known for its Pinot noirs. A temperamental fruit, the region’s weather conditions – longer hours of summer sun combined with cooler temperatures – create the perfect storm for the perfect Pinot noir.

You will learn more about the deep relationship of Pinot noir and the Sokol Blosser estate as you tour the winery and vineyard, and walk through the limited access LEED-certified Barrel Cellar. Enjoy an exclusive, guided Pinot noir flight, accompanied with a Butcher's Board, on a reserved table.

After departing Sokol Blosser, you will make a stop in the City of Dundee. Free time will be had to explore at your own pace the beautiful vineyards and an abundance of highly rated restaurants, award winning wineries, and unparalleled vistas.

A half an hour east of Portland you can find some of the most magnificent scenery in the country – skyscraper cliffs, giant sturgeon, and majestic waterfalls. During the last ice age, a cataclysmic event occurred, that left a lasting monument along the path of the mighty Columbia River. A great flood sheared away the land, leaving stone cliffs and water falls that form the world famous “Columbia River Gorge”.

View the majesty from the Vista House atop 800-foot sheer rock cliffs, see Multnomah Falls (the second tallest year round waterfall in the country), or witness the free-falling splendor of Latourell Falls. In the autumn, you can witness salmon spawning in nearby Eagle Creek.

FUN FACT: The Columbia River Gorge is unique in many ways. Even though it is dramatic in it’s depth and size, it was only formed approximately 15 thousand years ago, during the last ice age. This is almost contemporary, in geologic terms. It is also home to the tallest waterfall in Oregon, Multnomah Falls, which is over twice the height of the Statue of Liberty!
