(FTE) enrollments at colleges and universities in Illinois. It also includes enrollments in remedial/developmental courses for Academic Year 2016-2017. Fall-term enrollments provide a “snapshot” of Illinois higher education enrollments on the 10th day, or census date, of the fall term. Preliminary Fall 2016 Enrollments By Sector
Including enrollments at out-of-state institutions authorized to operate in Illinois, fall 2017
preliminary headcount enrollments at 197 degree-granting institutions total 764,502 (see Table 4 for institutional level data). Fall 2017 full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollments total 569,870. Enrollments by sector are shown below in Table 1.

Table 2 summarizes the unduplicated headcount of undergraduate students enrolled in at least one remedial/developmental course during a 12-month period (Academic Year 2016-2017). Many students simultaneously enroll in college-level coursework and one or more remedial/developmental courses and are included in this data. Remedial/development course enrollment data disaggregated by institution are presented in Table 5.

Table 3 summarizes the percent change in preliminary headcount and FTE enrollment from the fall semester of 2016 to the fall semester of 2017. These differences are based only on those institutions that responded to the survey both years, so the changes reflected here are actual changes in enrollment patterns and not due to changes in response rates to the survey from one year to the next. Undergraduate enrollment declined in all sectors while graduate enrollment declined at public universities and out-of-state institutions, but increased within the independent NFP and for-profit sectors. Table 6 contains the information disaggregated to the institutional-level.

Table 4 provides the institutional-level headcount and FTE enrollment data for the institutions that responded to the survey. Table 5 provides the institutional-level remedial/developmental data for the institutions that offer such programs and responded to the survey. Finally, Table 6 contains the percent difference in preliminary fall headcount and FTE enrollment for each institution that responded to the survey both years.
