2.2 Brief Information about the Project
The mining lease area of 19.80 ha is located in Government land, near
Girimapur Village, Medchal Mandal, Ranga Reddy district, Telangana.
It has been proposed to produce approximately 9,00,000 TPA of Stone
& Metal.
Mining:
The mining operations are proposed to be carried out by opencast
semi-mechanized method. Stone & Metal is exposed on the surface.
2.3 Need for the Project and Its Importance to the Country or Region
In the context of depleting natural sand resources in many parts of
the world due to sterilisation of reserves and environmental concerns,
concrete producers, construction engineers, builders and suppliers of
sand are of the firm view that crushed stone sand is a substitute to
natural river sand.
2.4 Demands-Supply Gap
The use of the crushed stone sand although not new was at one time
negligible as the natural river sand was abundantly available. But now
the situation has changed. The quantum of fine aggregate available is
same but the requirement of natural sand increased several hundreds
of times since 1970. The government and the construction industry
feels that to meet the ever increasing demand for the fine aggregate
there is no other alternative except going for crushed stone sand.
Crushed stone, one of the most accessible natural resources, is a major
basic raw material used for construction. For centuries crushed stone
coarse aggregates were being used for the production of various types of
concrete in construction.

3.3 Details of Alternate Sites
No alternate site was considered as the project is mineral specific and
site specific.
3.4 Size or magnitude of operation
The proposed mine has lease over an area of 19.80 ha and the
production rate is 9,00,000 TPA.
3.5 Geology and Reserves
3.5.1 Regional Geology
The quarry lease area constitutes a part of Granite and Granitic Gneissic
terrain of Archean age. Pink and Grey Coloured Granites, Pink Alkali -
Feldspar Granites are the important litho units in the area. Grano –
Diorites with basic enclaves of Supra - Crystals like Horneblende Schists,
Biotite Schists also occupy the area. These rock types are exhibiting
various landforms like Domes, Inselbergs, Castle - Koppies, Whalebacks
and Linear Ridges.
Pink Alkali Feldspar is the most dominant rock type in the area with
variations in grain size, scattered outcrops of Migmatites containing
Neosomes of medium to Coarse - Grained Grey Alkali Feldspar Granites
occurs at many places. A number of Quartz, Grey and Pink Pegmatites
and Epidote Veins Criss crossing the host rock. Basic dykes of Dolerite,
Gabbro & Pyroxenitic Composition traverse the granites in NW-SE, NNW-
SSE, E-W & NE-SW directions. Thin veneer of alluvium is found limited
to streams.
3.5.2 Local Geology
Entire quarry lease area is covered with colour granite which is rising up
to 25M above ground level trending E-W, the strike length of the
formation measured 500M in the area with an average width of 175M
PROJECT: Rock Snad Mining Project PRE-FEASIBILITY REPORT APPLICANT: M/s. Rock Sand & Minerals Pvt Ltd
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF LITHO UNITS:
a) Texture and Grain size : Texturally the rock in the lease area is
Porphyritic Texture with fine to medium grained.
b) Colour and aesthetic beauty of the stone: The rock is light black with
green shade. The rock is aesthetically good looking.
c) Hardness :Mohr’s Scale : 6 – 7
d) Mineralogical composition :
The main litho unit is Dolerite Mineralogical the Black Granite
consists of Pyroxene and Plagioclase feldspar as essential mineral and
other mafic Biotite, Mica, hornblende, etc., as accessory mineral with
fine to medium grain. The mafic minerals are observed in more
content hence the rock is melaocratic. The Granite available in the
demarcated area is useful for Granite Cutting and polishing purpose.
e) Density /specific gravity: 2.776 g/cm3
f) Water absorption capacity: 0.138 % (kg/cm2)
g) Porosity: 0.36
h) Compression strength: 687kg/cm2 (in dry state)
i) Abrasiveness: 6 - 7
j) Permeability: Negligible
k) Rock Quality designation: The Rock Quality designation is
estimated to be good with RQD % between 84 and 95.
l) Young modulus of elasticity : 7 725 (105 kg/ cm2)
m) Degree of weathering under Hand lenses/Microscope: Fresh rock
surface is un-weathered and it is categorized as Grade 'A'.
n) Glossiness: The rock takes good polishing.
The Granite available in the demarcated area is useful for
Granite Cutting and Polishing purpose.
3.6 PROJECT DESCRIPTION WITH PROCESS DETAILS

Drilling will be done with compressors and jack hammers. Excavators,
cranes, chain-pulley blocks and winch will be used for dislodging
lifting and loading the blocks.
The dislodged blocks from the sheet rock will be dressed by chisel
men to the maximum possible size and then loaded by cranes or
chain-pulley block or winch into the trucks for dispatch to the
destination.
The following machinery is being deployed in the leasehold area to
carry out the mining operations:

Benefit to the Local People Including Tribal Population, If Any, In
the Area.
Although granite is a minor mineral, it is a major contributor in
foreign exchange earnings. India is the second largest exporter of raw
granite after China and ahead of Brazil and South Africa.
This project will also provide employment to local people helping them
earn livelihood.
