Threats and Kidnapping

A couple days after the incident, Roy Bryant and his half brother, J.W. Milam, arrived at the Wright home (where Emmett was staying), pounding on the door with a pistol They were “looking for the boy who did the

Quick Write

What do you think happened to Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam? Remember, this

happened after Brown v. Board, but it was the deep south.

The Aftermath

Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam were arrested for the kidnapping and murder of Emmett Till.

Sadly, they were acquitted (let go with no punishment).

It Get’s Worse…

The two men sold their story to reporter William Bradford Huie for $4000.

They spoke freely of how they killed the young teen from Chicago.
