AMONG FRIENDS with Robert

This past week the 2016 Summer Olympics opened in Rio de Janeiro, Bra-

zil. Did you know the Olympic motto is made up of three Latin words: Citius -

Altius - Fortius. These words mean “ faster, higher and stronger.”

I think that could be a Christian’s motto, too. When I am running this race

of life as a Christian, I don’t want to settle for mediocrity. I don’t want to settle

for second best. I want to make my life count, up to the very end of the race,

because when this life ends (and it will end for all of us), we will face the judg-

ment. (cf. 2 Cor. 5:10)

In the Olympics, athletes might receive a bronze, silver, or gold medal. God

will be giving out awards one day, too. Every sacrifice you have made, every-

thing you have done for the glory of God, even if you did not receive recogni-

tion for it, is duly noted and recorded in heaven. God will reward you one day.

In fact, Jesus said, “Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward

you.” (Matt. 6:4 NIV)

There are many times when you may do things but won’t get the credit you

deserve. No one pats you on the back. No one says, “Atta boy!” Worse yet,

someone else might get the credit. When you did that for God, when you made

that sacrifice for Him, when you honored Him in that way, even when you re-

sisted that temptation, when you took that step of faith and let God use you, it

is noted in heaven. (cf. Heb. 6:10)

Our task right now is to focus on being faithful in what God has called you

to do. Don’t try to do what God has called someone else to do; do what God

has called you to do. You have your place where you live and where you work,

your family and your friends, and your sphere of influence. Go into your world

and do all you can for His glory.

Friend, are you running in the Christian race right now? Maybe you have

been running in it, but you’ve been slowing down a little. Maybe you’ve

thought, “I’m a little winded. I’m getting on in years. I think that I’ve run so

well for so long that I’m going to slow down. I’m going to sit down for a cou-

ple of years.” But if you run in first place for nine-tenths of the race and bail

out at the end, it doesn’t count. You have to cross the finish line.

It is not enough to start this race. You have to finish it. (cf. 2 Tim. 4:6-8) Fix

your eyes on Jesus. (cf. Heb. 12:1-2) He will give you energy and power to

run for Him. Faster, higher, stronger.

— Your friend,

Robert

FOOD PANTRY

1. The purpose of the Food Pantry is to help our

members and surrounding community with their physi-

cal needs.

2. The Food Pantry is not included in our annual

working budget – but relies on separate donations so

food can be purchased. This is a reminder that the Food

Pantry needs your help. You may make a donation us-

ing the ‘Food Pantry’ envelopes in the back of the pew,

and placing them in the contribution plate. Or you can

donate online from our website, and specify your dona-

tion is to go to the Food Pantry.

3. A little information on the Food Pantry:

It costs our pantry about $8.00 per person for 3-5 days’ worth of food.

With the buying power we have available to us, every dollar donated helps get

more than twice the amount of food you would be able to buy at the store

The Food Pantry on average requires about $1300 a month which will provide

food for about 170 people.

Teachers & Assistants Needed: For the children’s classes dur ing the Fall

quarter starting in September. See Misti Babitzke if interested.

5 Labor Day: Church office closed.

6 Ladies’ Crafts & Christ: 6:30pm-

8:30pm in Room 123. Bring a

craft and a Bible.
