ALL THINGS MADE NEW Revelation 21:1-8, 22-27 Why have we not been told more about heaven? Perhaps God knew that full information now would distract us from doing the things necessary in order to go. Paul described Paradise as characterized by inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell(2 Cor. 12:4). There may be another reason: just as it would be impossible to explain nuclear energy to a toddler, humans also have a limited vocabulary when it comes to comprehending infinity and eternity. We cannot discuss eternity without contradicting ourselves. We speak of “ceaseless age” when there is no such thing. We ask, “Where will you spend eternity?” We forget that eternity cannot be “spent.” So God uses terms we understand to convince us that heaven is very desirable and worth putting forth every effort to go. Perhaps He is not saying heaven is literally a bride adorned for her husband,”(Rev. 21:2) or a walled, bejeweled city with abundant water, but those terms have an appeal to yearning souls who knew what it was like to die of thirst. As a place of holiness, peace, and rest, filled with singing and joyful activity, where all the sorrows of life are absent, heaven tugs at the heart of every emotional being to want to go. It is appealing also to know that every curiousity will be satisfied. If 99 percent plus of our total awareness of anything will be eternity, isn’t it strange, preparation for it gets so little of our attention? “But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life” (Rev. 21:27). via Whites Creek church of Christ, Whites Creek, TN BIBLE TRIVIA -Question of the week Why did Abraham and his family change course and go south into Egypt? ALL THINGS MADE NEW

Revelation 21:1-8, 22-27 Why have we not been told more about

heaven? Perhaps God knew that full

information now would distract us from

doing the things necessary in order to go.

Paul described Paradise as characterized by

“inexpressible things, things that man is not

permitted to tell” (2 Cor. 12:4).

There may be another reason: just as it

would be impossible to explain nuclear

energy to a toddler, humans also have a

limited vocabulary when it comes to

comprehending infinity and eternity. We

cannot discuss eternity without contradicting

ourselves. We speak of “ceaseless age”

when there is no such thing. We ask,

“Where will you spend eternity?” We forget

that eternity cannot be “spent.”

So God uses terms we understand to

convince us that heaven is very desirable and

worth putting forth every effort to go.

Perhaps He is not saying heaven is literally a

“bride adorned for her husband,”(Rev.

21:2) or a walled, bejeweled city with

abundant water, but those terms have an

appeal to yearning souls who knew what it

was like to die of thirst.

As a place of holiness, peace, and rest,

filled with singing and joyful activity, where

all the sorrows of life are absent, heaven tugs

at the heart of every emotional being to want

to go. It is appealing also to know that every

curiousity will be satisfied. If 99 percent

plus of our total awareness of anything will

be eternity, isn’t it strange, preparation for it

gets so little of our attention?

“But there shall by no means enter it

anything that defiles, or causes an

abomination or a lie, but only those who are

written in the Lamb’s Book of Life” (Rev.

21:27).

WATCH OUT FOR DECEPTION

2 Corinthians 11:3-4, “But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your

minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone

comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different

spirit from the spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with

it easily enough.”

In 2 Corinthians 11, we find Paul trying to make the Corinthian church understand that the

“super apostles” that had infiltrated the church were in reality not apostles at all. If they were

preaching a different message than Paul had taught them, if they were preaching a different Jesus

than Paul had shared with them, if they received a different spirit than they had received when they

first accepted the gospel preached by Paul, then they were being deceived. Paul wanted his readers

to watch out for deception.

I think the thing that the elders and I pray about more than anything for this congregation is

that none of us are deceived by the devil’s lies. Ever since the time of Eve, Satan has been very

cunning in trying to get people to believe and understand what he wanted them to believe and

understand. If you remember with Eve, it started with just a little lie when Satan told her that if she

ate the fruit she would surely not die. All Satan did was add one little word, the word “not”.

If we are not careful, we can also be deceived just like Eve and just like the Corinthian

church. I have no doubt that many things people are saying and teaching in our world today sound

good. But when people are saying and teaching things that are not found in the Word of God, we

need to stay away from those sayings and teachings. Worshipping God with the saints continues to

be important. Partaking of the Lord’s Supper each first day of the week is still beneficial. Living a

life that revolves around Jesus Christ and serving the world is still the way to live.

Watch out for deception in the world we are living in. There are a lot of ways that might

seem right but in the end they lead to destruction. Following God is the only way to go!
