    Dear friends,

    Kathleen

    declares

    that the

    missionary's

    theme song

    is "This

    World Is Not

    My Home".

    Of the

    past eight years, the year

    1961

    holds

    the

    honor

    of being the

    only

    year

    in

    which we

    did not

    move.

    We're

    made to

    feel

    very much without

    a

home since we received word that

    our

    rented

    house

    in

    Kagoshima is up

    for

    sale. Of

    course

    we

    wouldn't

    even consider

    letting go our

    lease on that

    "Mansion

    Over The Hill

    top" but

    until we

    move

    to

    that

    land, please

    pray that

    the

    Lord

    will

    provide us with

    one

    in Kagoshima. He is

    faithful

    to provide.

    It won't be long now.

    Word

from the travel agency is that we

    will sail aboard

    the

CALIFORNIA BEAR of the Pacific Par East Lines

    on

    August 14th. (Some missionaries

    do

    not encourage

    us as

    to the

    faithfulness

    of

    freighters meeting

    their

    sailing

    date.)

    We looh

    foreward

    to

the restful voyage and the reunion

    with

    the

    Mark Mazey

    family oxir only

    fellowpassengers.

    We still need funds toward

    the

    purchase

    of

tickets. With Lydia reaching her twelfth birthday

    this

    J u l y 27th, all except

    Ma:^

    We

    have

appreciated the sincere welcome, the entertainment

    and

    gifts given to

    us

    by

    all

of you. The marked evangelistic zeal

    and

    concern

    for

    missions in general in

    so

    many churches truly e n o o i ur a ge

    ua. 0\ir

    family owes

    a

    great deal to

    our Indianapolis

    friends and

    especially t o th e Mars ^11 hurch

    for

    opening

    its

    arms to

    us

    a nd

    for ministering to our

    young

    people. This

    all helped them

    to

    live

    for a

    few

    months

    like normal boys and girls.

    Six weeks

    The

    final two

    weeks

    were spent

    at Beech

    Grove, near Port

    Wayne, with our

    friend

    Don

    Foust.

We were honored, too, to be work

    ing

    w i t h Mr. V i r g i l

    Brook,

    a u t h o r of

    many

    w e l l - k n o w n

    gospel songs,

    the most

    popular

    of

    which

    is

    "Beyond

    The Sunset". He so graciously

    surrendered his

    total

    income

    from the meeting to

    this

    missionary

    for

    which we are truly

    grateful.

    S o m e o n e

has been praying, for God is

    a n s w e r i n g . For

    three and

    o n e - h a l f

    years after

    w e e n te r ed J a p a n t h r e e m i s s i o n a r i e s c a m e

    h o m e

and none were recruited to go.

    In 1962

    Lonnie Mings and his wife

    Coral came,

    f o l l o w ed

    by

    D o u n i e h i s b r o t h e r

    and

    C h a r l o t t e ,

    his

    w i f e .

    As of

    April

    t h i s

    year,

    Mr.

    and

    Mrs. Carl

    Fish (formerly

    of O k i n a w a )

    have Joined the

    workers on

    the

field. In addition to these, both

    Mr.

    Maxey and I have been

    in

    conversation with four fine

    young

    cou

ples from Great Lakes Bible College who have Japan in their plans.

    Among these

    are Harold

    Hicks, his

    wife

    the

    formerly

    Beverly Hostet-

    ler

    and

    Jim

    Longley,

    all former acquaintances

    in Michiana.

    Do pray

    for

    their

    future planning.

    Folks everywhere are

    asking "Are the communists making

    headway

    in Japan?" We usually

    e a^ i l a i n

    our concern

    for

    their growing 'grip'

    on

    labor and

    teachers

    unions and student groups. But

    we are

    like

    wise alarmed about their

    subtle

Inroads into oiir American way of

    life.

    Our

    family was

    reminded of

    the

    great ideals of

    freedom which

form the foundation of our co\mtry when we visited Washington

    D.C.

in early June. Our blood ran warm

    as

    each memorial reminded us

    of

the clear vision possessed by those founding fathers. We also ut

    tered a

    prayer

    that

    all men

    everywhere,

    including the

    slaves of

    atheism mi^t k n o w

    the

truth tha t makes men free.

This letter is not complete without a sincere note of appreci

    ation

    to

    the

    fine Christian

    couple who

    have

    served the Lord

    and

    us

    so

    faithfully

    as

    o \ i r f©rewarding agents.

    years ago this fall.

    Noone

    has

    served

    any task

    so

    to

    our

    whole family causes us to

    conclude

    that they have

    altogether

    adopted

us as their own. May God bless
