The Congregation is invited to join with the choir and sing the refrain. Refrain: Soloists

Refrain: Choir and Congregation

Verse 1 Your loving-kindness is great as the heavens, your faithfulness is higher than the sky. Be exalted, God above the heavens, let your glory shine. Refrain

Verse 2 Well I will cry to my God who does wonders, under the shadow of your wings will I hide. Though my enemies try to surround me, let your glory shine. Refrain Collect of the Day 216

Most loving Father, whose will it is for us to give thanks for all things, to fear nothing but the loss of you, and to cast all our care on you who care for us: Preserve us from faithless fears and worldly anxieties, that no clouds of this mortal life may hide from us the light of that love which is immortal, and which you have manifested to us in your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Old Testament Lesson: Isaiah 49:8-16a

Thus says the LORD: In a time of favor I have answered you, on a day of salvation I have helped you; I have kept you and given you as a covenant to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages; saying to the prisoners, “Come out,” to those who are in darkness, “Show yourselves.” They shall feed along the ways, on all the bare heights shall be their pasture; they shall not hunger or thirst, neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them down, for he who has pity on them will lead them, and by springs of water will guide them. And I will turn all my mountains into a road, and my highways shall be raised up. Lo, these shall come from far away, and lo, these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Syene. Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the LORD has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his suffering ones. But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me, my Lord has forgotten me.” Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands.

Gospel: Matthew 6:24-34

Deacon The Gospel of the Lord according to Matthew. People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Deacon The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Children’s Procession (Children follow the clergy into the Children’s Chapel.) Sermon: The Reverend Whitney Zimmerman Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People

The People are invited to add their own prayers during the silence that follows each petition

Knowing that God hears our prayers when they are offered with humble and sincere hearts, we pray for ourselves, our church, and our world, saying: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Your church, O Lord, is fragmented; we need the healing power of the Holy Spirit. Let us pray for the church. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Your world cries out for an increase of justice and for an end to war. Let us pray for the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Our country is striving for equality and a better life for all its citizens. Let us pray for our nation. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Our community seeks more wisdom to use its gifts and more courage to fulfill its calling. Let us pray for our community. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. We know many people who are sick and suffering, those who have experience public hurt or private pain. Let us pray for all in need. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Our lives have been enriched by the lives of all the saints who have gone before us. Let us pray for the courage to follow where they have led. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Page 5: Praise him with timbrel and dance; praise him with strings ... I’ll fly away traditional . Celebrant Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. People And blessed be his kingdom,

Celebrant Merciful God, you know our wants, and you know our true needs. May you attend to our prayers, direct our hearts, and enlighten our minds, that we may know and do your holy will. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the power of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Anthem: So happy I’ll be Flatt and Scruggs, transcr. Virginia Whitmire

I’m just waitin’ for the time to come when all sorrow will be done, then I’m goin’ home to heaven above. Where we shall sing with the angels up there, tell the Savior of his love and care that he had for me in this world below.

Refrain: So happy I’ll be when my Savior I shall see And tell him of his love that he had for me No more sorrows grief or pain all the time will be the same So happy I’ll be forever more.

Some happy time just wait and see my blessed Savior will come for me, then I’m goin’ home to heaven above. Where my loved ones have gone before to that bright and shining shore So happy I’ll be forever more. Refrain

Oh just think of the day my friends when the saints go marching in Then I’m goin’ home to heaven above. Oh so happy I will be my blessed Savior I shall see, so happy I’ll be forever more. Refrain

Great Thanksgiving, Eucharistic Prayer A 361

Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Celebrant It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. (The Celebrant continues with the Proper Preface.) Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

Sanctus (Choir) M. Whitmire

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Celebrant Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Celebrant and People Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Celebrant We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.

And now as our Savior Jesus Christ has taught us, we are bold to say:

Page 7: Praise him with timbrel and dance; praise him with strings ... I’ll fly away traditional . Celebrant Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. People And blessed be his kingdom,

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread

Celebrant Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; People Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Celebrant The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you And feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving. As the children return to their parents, the people sing

Fraction Anthem: This is the feast M. Whitmire

All are invited to receive communion. Music during Communion

Anthem: Record Time Lawson/Smith

Jesus told the rich man, “Give all your wealth away.” He told the Pharisees, “Be humble when you pray.” He told His own disciples, “Be generous and kind, follow me to heaven and get there in record time.”

Refrain: Record time, record time, follow him to heaven, you sinners, toe the line Love your God, love your fellow man, and then you find the road is straight to heaven’s gate, you’re there in record time.

The Master always told us “Faith’s like a mustard seed, frail and small, it grows tall and stronger through the years.” He called us to be servants and gave us this decree, “Care for those less fortunate and you’ve cared for me.” Refrain

The Son of Man commanded us throughout his ministry “Who would be first must be a slave to all humanity.” Christ died for us upon the cross, his final sacrifice, “A ransom for us all,” he said, and so he paid the price. Refrain.

Jesus told the crowds, “Heaven’s like a wedding feast, Trim your lamps and come on time, or you’re out in the street.” “When I call the roll up yonder, every soul will stand in line but you’ll be on the right hand when it comes to record time.” Refrain

Anthem: Hold to God’s unchanging hand F. L. Eiland, arr. M. Whitmire

Time is filled with swift transition, Naught of earth unmoved can stand, Build your hopes on things eternal, Hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Refrain: Hold to God’s unchanging hand, Hold to God’s unchanging hand; Build your hopes on things eternal, Hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Trust in Him who will not leave you, Whatsoever years may bring, If by earthly friends forsaken Still more closely to Him cling. When your journey is completed, If to God you have been true, Fair and bright the home in glory Your enraptured soul will view.

Covet not this world’s vain riches That so rapidly decay, Seek to gain the heav’nly treasures, They will never pass away.
