Practical and Current Concepts about Equine Podiatry February 4, 2012 Sheraton Chapel Hill, North Carolina Organized by the Equine Podiatry & Rehabilitation Practice [email protected] www.equine podiatrync.com
Without these sponsors the Equine Podiatry Seminar would not have existed! • Vettec. NC Tool Company
• Southern States Merial
• Animal Scan Patrons
• Grand Circuit Elizabeth Muirhead
• Soft Ride Rebecca Lula
• Boehringer-Ingelheim Fran Shepard
• Christian Icon & Xray
• Equine Imaging Platform

Thank you very much!
Lots (~100) of veterinarians, farriers, students and some interested horse owners
Good group of speakers that got good attention and discussion
Dr. Raphael Labens from NC State discussing imaging. [email protected]
Dr. Hans Castelijns from Cortona, Italy discussing Medial to Lateral imbalance. www.mascalcia.net
Many of the attendees and all the speakers participated in a great 45 minute post seminar discussion
Dr. Debra Ruffin Taylor from Auburn discussing acute laminitis – [email protected]
Dr. Bob Agne from Rood & Riddle discussing chronic laminitis - [email protected]
My learning tips
Getting help working on the notes, Arnold is sleeping on the job! Lots of great contacts, and then…
• Dremel burr from Travis
• More accurate and mirror for the DED from Hans
• Measuring digital cushion from Debra
• Cornell testing from Kirsten
• Keep working on the photomodelling from Raf
• Work on casting from Bob
I never thought that the room would be too small. It was difficult figuring when to tell unpaid registrants;
“there is no more room”
Travis Burns from Va Tech giving great case reports and tips- [email protected]
Dr. Kirsten Tillotson discussed endocrine relations – www.tillotsonequine.com
Certainly all the sponsors and patrons were critical to getting the multiple speakers
Meredith from Southern States and Brandon from Pfizer Animal Health
Rich from Christian Icons & Xray and Eq. Imaging Platform
Sweet Pea is the beloved small pony of the Willsons. She has had several bouts of laminitis. At 27 she lives in her Soft Rides during
the day and is on 2 ½ *Prescend tablets sid. She gets great primary care from Dr. Linda Kuhn and her farrier, Randy Taylor
• Debbie May represented Boehinger Ingelheim and PRESCEND at the Seminar. Debbie’s father, Dr. Scott MacAllister, worked with me in Santa Barbara!!
• Monty Reutenik with Soft Ride was unable to be here
• Both of these products have helped many of our patients
We picked Sponsors Related to products we Use and have helped us
Great exchanges at Foxglove Farm for speakers and sponsors after
Kurt and Vettec!!! Josef Luber from Luwex with Grand Circuit
Project discussion and exchanges
Raf, Debra and Hans Maybe even a bit of small animal talk!!! Dr. Jermyn and Bill from Animal Scan
The European contingent with our 2 PMU horses, York and Spree
Besides the sponsors and speakers I could not have done this event without…
Sheila, Michael and my wonderful wife, Linda!!! Also…..
• Dr. Julie Davis on the AV
• Melissa and Mary on the reception desk and also several weeks working before the seminar
• I want to make special thoughts to Monty Ruetenik and his wife from Soft-Ride. She is ill and that is why he could not be here.

The immediate future outside my practice is to re-establish the Equine Podiatry Fund at the NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine • These monies will only be
used for clinically applied equine podiatry projects
• If you know anyone interested in helping, have them make out a check to the Eq. Health Program (it is critical to put “Podiatry Fund” in the memo section) and mail to….

The goal from the beginning of my veterinary career… “improving the farrier/veterinary/owner relationship”
• For owners – Help keep records for the TEAM, photos, use www.eponatech.com
• For farriers- decide what they want to record and record it
• For veterinarians – develop a consistent way to take needed podiatry films and get them to the farrier
There is a major role for all of us!!!!
The farrier profession is an equine health care profession!!!
