TWIN SISTERS TO SHARE DUTIES AS CHAIR OF ANNUAL CT RACE IN THE PARK-Pair will lead effort to raise funds for breast cancer research and education in the state- 

NEW BRITAIN, CONN. March 17, 2008 - Connecticut Breast Health Initiative, Inc. (CTBHI), a 501(c)(3) organization fighting to make a difference in the fight against breastcancer in the state of Connecticut through education and research, have selected JaneMcIntyre Caron and twin sister Joan McIntyre Caron, as co-chairs for the 2008 CT

RACE IN THE PARK. The sisters will spearhead the fundraising effort for this year’srace that is expected to draw more than 7,500 participants to New Britain’s Walnut HillPark. The CT RACE IN THE PARK is the organization’s largest fundraising event.

Jane Caron is the director of social work at The Hospital of Central Connecticut. She isvice chairperson of the hospital’s ethics committee and serves on the human studiescommittee. She has previously been a volunteer on the Health Advisory Board of theMarch of Dimes, and a member of the Board of Directors for the homeless shelter, theFriendship Service Center.

“We are extremely excited to lead the charge for CT BHI and this wonderful event whichdoes so much to raise awareness of breast cancer in Connecticut,” said Jane Caron.

“Because breast cancer takes such a tremendous toll on women and their familiesthroughout the state, I believe this event is a great opportunity to bring those familiestogether, let them know that they are not alone and give them useful information onbreast cancer research and education.

Dr. Joan Caron is a professor in the Department of Cell Biology at the University ofConnecticut School of Medicine. She has been a principal investigator in basic scienceand human studies research of cancer and chemotherapy for more than 20 years.Through her research she has identified a new chemotherapeutic drug that is effectiveagainst highly aggressive forms of cancer but does not appear to harm healthy cells. Dr.Caron is an 8-year breast cancer survivor.

“There have been some important strides made in research and prevention but there isstill work that needs to be done,” said Dr. Caron. " We hope the people of Connecticutwill come out and join us for this Mother's Day weekend tradition and family event." “These two extraordinary women were handpicked to serve as our co-chairs for 2008which is also the fifth anniversary of CT BHI”, said CT BHI President Joyce Bray. “Wehave set an ambitious financial goal this year and are confident that Jane and Joan arethe right pair to help us reach our mark.”
