Lent Reflections with Fr. Barron

This week’s Lenten booklet reflection by Fr. Robert Barron mentions the message of Palm Sunday. He connects the Old Testament prophecy of Ezekiel’s vision that the Glory of God would return to the temple from the east. (Ez 43:1-2) As the Jewish people saw Jesus coming to Jerusalem, from the east, they would remember this vision. They would believe the glory of Yahweh returning, they would believe that Jesus was the “meeting place of heaven and earth”! Also, Jesus would fulfill the Prophecy of Zechariah that “your king comes to you… riding on a donkey (Zech 9:9) Another interesting fact that was given in our reflection today, was that by placing a sign over the cross of the crucified Jesus in Hebrew, Greek and Latin, claiming Jesus is King of the Jews, Pontius Pilot became the first great evangelist! Listen to the readings today and see how the Gospel brings” Heaven and earth together; God is Victorious, Jesus is Lord.”

Easter Schedule There will be no Religious Education classes on Easter Sunday, April 5th. Classes will resume on April 12th. Have a blessed Easter! Sunday Night Lights (High School) Thank you Fr. Charlie Garza for coming to Christ the King to host our Holy Hour on Healing! What an awesome way to finish up Spring Break and enter more deeply into this Lenten season. We're so thankful to all who helped make the night possible including our very own Kyle Heitmiller who led us in worship. May God bless you and your minis-tries! This week SNL will be about "Carrying the Cross of Christ" to lead us into Holy Week. Our speaker will be Sally Rios talking about her spiritual journey and being a disciple. See you then! There will be no SNL on Easter Sunday. Enjoy your time with you family and we'll see you on the 12th! Due to a diocesan holiday, we will not be having a Teen Staff Meeting on the Monday after Easter. Look for an email about upcoming events. Confirmation 2 Students On Sunday, April 12 we will begin confirmation classes for teens who plan to be confirmed this fall. We will meet after the 10:30 a.m. mass. All parents are invited to attend the first teaching session for more information. The full sched-ule is on the CTK website, select the Youth Ministry button, and you will see it listed under News. CRU Catholics (UMHB Students) Exciting news! Christ the King will be hosting a retreat for college students on April 18th-19th at the Rosebrock Ranch. The retreat will be on the topic of "Discernment of Gifts " and we encourage all Catholic college students to attend, even if you are not currently a member of the Cru Catholic Organization. The retreat costs $20 and we will be coordinating rides to the retreat center. Fliers with addition-al information are available at the Cru House. Please email Abby Riley at [email protected] for more information or to reserve a spot!

Thank you all who joined us for our Lenten Holy Hour this past Tuesday. Any time with the Lord is time well spent so we're so glad you took your time to walk with Christ. Please keep your fellow Catholic students in your prayers during this Holy Week. Thank you and God Bless!

Pope Francis proclaimed 2015 a Year of Consecrated Life, starting in November, 2014, and ending in February, 2016. Its purpose, as stated by the Vatican is to “make a grateful remembrance of the recent past” while embracing “the future with hope.”

“Our brothers and sisters in Christ living consecrated lives make great contributions to our society through a vast number of ministries,” said Archbishop Jo-seph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Ken-tucky, president of USCCB. “They teach in our schools, take care of the poor and the sick and bring compassion and the love of Christ to those shunned by society; others lead lives of prayer in contemplation for the world.”

Let us pray for all those who are living consecrated lives:

Prayer to Our Lady for Vocations Most holy Virgin, who without hesitation offered yourself to the Almighty for the carrying out of his plan of salvation, pour trust into the hearts of young people so that there may always be zealous pastors who are able to guide the Christian people on the way of life, and consecrated souls who may know how to witness, in chastity, poverty, and obedience, to the freeing presence of your risen Son. Amen. —Pope John Paul II, Message for Vocations Sunday 2001

Divine Mercy Sunday On Sunday, April 12 Celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown from 3:00-4:00 p.m. with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Exposition of the Blessed Sac-rament and Benediction. The 9-Day Divine Mercy Novena begins on April 3, Good Friday. Our Lord specifically asked that the Chaplet be recited as a Novena, especially on the nine days before the Feast of Mercy. Our Lord promised, "By this Novena (of Chaplets) I will grant every possible grace to souls" (Diary 796). Medicine & the Gospel of Life Abortion, contraception, abortifacient drugs, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), embryonic stem cell research: some of the most controver-sial issues of our time. These are topics of daily conversation and affect the most intimate aspects of our lives, yet many of us either don’t know or don’t understand the Church’s teaching on them. To prepare us for these conversations, to help us learn what the Church teaches, why the Church teaches it, and ethical alterna-tives, Founding President of The John Paul II Foundation for Life and Family, Arland Nichols, will present “Medicine & the Gospel of Life” on April 18 from 8:30 a.m. until noon at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy. “Far from a never-ending list of no’s, the Church’s teachings on these issues are primarily an affirmation of great goods to which the Church proclaims a resounding ‘YES!’” A continental breakfast will be included. Tickets are $10 and are available at www.jpiilifecenter.org in the Calendar of Events. For more information: [email protected] or 512-407-2900.
