    Founder of Adidas Sportswear

    Adidas was founded in 1948 by AdolfDassler.

    Adolf "Adi" Dasslerstarted to produce hisown sports shoes in his mother's washkitchen inBavariaafter his return fromWorld War I. In July 1924, his brotherRudolf returned to Bavaria to join hisyounger brother's business, whichbecame Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory andprospered.

    1. Adolf made an effort to attend everymajor sporting event to try to encourageathletes to wear his shoes.

    2. By 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, severalathletes were wearing special shoes fromthe Dassler workshop.

    3. By the early 1930s, the company wasmaking 30 different shoe brands for 11

    By the 1926 Summer Olympics, Adi Dassler drovefrom Bavaria on one of the world's first motorways tothe Olympic village with a suitcase full of spikes andpersuaded U.S. sprinter Jesse Owensto use them.

    Following Owens's haul of four gold medals, hissuccess cemented the good reputation of Dasslershoes among the world's most famous sportsmen.

    Letters from around the world landed on the

    brothers' desks, and the trainers of other nationalteams were all interested in their shoes.

    Business boomed and the Dasslers were selling200,000 pairs of shoes each year before World War II.

    Adolf and Rudolf worked together, until the rise ofHitler.

    Rudolf was a more devoted Nazi than Adolf.When the allies bombed Bavaria where they wereliving Adolf and his wife climbed into a bombshelter that Rudolf and his family were already in.
