Motivation of the project

Complex territorial

morphology Urban areas are

concentrated along the coast and two

inland valleys

Complex urban

texture One of the biggest historical centre in

Europe

Mediterranean climate

Mild and short winters

High development

What is the project about?

CONDENSED CONCEPT

• To exploit the NG pressure drop between the NG transmission and distribution network for generating electric and thermal energy to serve a micro-DHN

TECHNICAL DETAILS

• TURBO-EXPANDER [550kW] to exploit the NG pressure drop at a main gas distribution substation, generating electric energy

• GAS-FIRED COGENERATION PLANT [526 kWh] 1.To provide the heat required to compensate for the decrease of temperature occurring during NG expansion 2.To serve a Micro-DHN 3.To produce additional electricity

• REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM

Project timeline

Design phase (Apr.2013-Apr.2015)

• Design and tender to procure the turbo expander

• Design of the CHP and related size of the micro DHN

• Civil works for preparing the area to install the turbo-expander and the micro DHN pipelines: design of underground works and foundations

• Authorizations procedures

Installation phase (May 2015- Sep.2015)

• Finalization of the civil works

• Installation of TE, CHP and pipelines

Operation phase & Monitoring (from Oct.2015)

Environmental benefits

Lower direct emissions to the atmosphere with respect to the current situation will be achieved. The project will make it possible to deliver both electricity and thermal energy to nearby buildings enabling savings of approx. 800 ton CO2/year. Monitoring phase over a 18 months-period.
