Today is something special….
■ Something that will never happen in Mr. Fitz’s Biology class ever again.
Today is a “Free Day”■ Today is the only “Free Day” I will give. I would love to start
the first Unit about Evolution, but there are so many different Routines and Procedures that we need to go over each one today so that you will not be surprised for the next few weeks.
■ There are going to be A LOT of rules, but I promise they will make more sense as the year goes on.
Select a class Color
■ The first step for the year, we will select a folder color for each class. There are several colors to choose from.
■ This will be the color folder where your Six-Weeks Tracker and your Weekly DFAD will be placed in each day.
Table Numbers■ Each table is numbered based on the distance from the
door. ■ Table 1 is closest, then 2, 3, 4, 5, and farthest is table 6
going clockwise.

Mr. Fitz Here
DFAD – Means “Do First Answer Document”
■ Find the paper titled “Do First: Answer Document”
■ DFAD – Pronounced “Da-Fad” is a sheet of paper where we will write down our answers from the Do First every day.
■ Each day you will see 5 questions. Most of the time they will be multiple choice, but sometimes can be short answer or fill in the blank.
■ There are 4 days that we will have Do First: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
■ Wednesdays are quiz days, more on weekly quizzes when we talk about the syllabus.
Do First: Answer in your DFADUse your Do First answer Document to answer the following questions in the Friday box
1. What is Mr. Fitz’s favorite animal? 2. How many pets does Mr. Fitz have?3. What is Mr. Fitz’s son’s first name?4. Where do you think Mr. Fitz was born?5. What do you think Mr. Fitz’s favorite movie is?
About Mr. Fitz■ My favorite animal is a mountain lion
or cassowary■ I am an avid guitar and bass player.■ I have 2 dogs, Lupin and Odie, and 3
cats, Dipstick, Austin, and Maizie■ My son’s name is Jonathan
Nicknames: JL or Baby Fitz■ Graduated from the University of
Houston■ Born and raised Houstonian■ Favorite movie: Jurassic Park ■ Other Hobbies:
– Hiking/Camping– Spending time with friends
Insert the DFAD into the class folder. These go on the RIGHT hand side of your folder.
Six Weeks Tracker■ Take a moment to take out the
Document that says “First Six-Weeks Tracker”
■ This tracker is for your personal grades in Biology class for each Six-Weeks. This will usually be used for Quiz and Unit Exam grades.
■ Notice where you will write the score, M, P, and NTY, Date, and Tutorials.
■ There is also a Six-Weeks Calendar, so you will never have an excuse for not knowing when something (like Quiz or Unit Exam) will be.
Unit/Six-Weeks Calendar■ Now look back at your “First Six-Weeks Tracker”, flip over to the back
page, and take a look at the Unit 1 calendar. This is the only unit that is the exact same at time as a six-weeks.
■ What do you notice what happens on Wednesday, Take 30 seconds to turn and take to your elbow partner about what pattern you notice.
■ This class is built around the Weekly Quiz. Sometimes due to scheduling, sometimes they can be on other days.
■ Insert the Six-Weeks Tracker into the class folder.■ These go on the LEFT hand side of your folder.

MrFitzBiology.com■ For this section, you will be using your cell phone, so listen to when you will be allowed to
have it out.
■ When I say “Go”, not before, take out your cell phone, unlock it, and open an internet browser. Go to this website:
MrFitzBiology.com■ At this point, everyone favorite/bookmark this page.
■ You will need to know when assessments will be given. If you are absent for a certain day, it is your responsibility to read, complete, and internalize that days’ content.
■ You will be required to know the information from the previous day.
■ All power points, hand outs, and practice can be found the website.
■ If you don’t understand a topic, feel free to email me any time before 9 pm. My email is at the bottom of every page on my website. –NO EXCUSes.

Take a moment to remember the number of the one you like.■ Your placement on the tracker will depend on your most recent score.■ Take a moment to select which dinosaur best represents you, remember the
number by each avatar

Syllabus
■ Whew!
■ That was a lot of info.
■ Now, let’s look at the document titled “Syllabus”. This is just a hand out of all the routines and procedures, and calendar that we will go though.
■ This is nice to have if you have any questions, but the most important part is the grade weight per assignment. – Participation/Homework -10%– Do Firsts/Exit Tickets -20%– Exams -25%– Quizzes -45%
Commitment to Excellence
■ This is your first graded assignment, either a 100 or a 0. All I need is to get this page read, signed, and brought back to me TOMORROW!
■ Just a heads up, You need a Binder by next week. This needs to be a 1 inch binder that we will use to catalog every handout and quiz. There will be a binder check once a six-weeks at the end to make sure you keep up.
Last Year’s Data (Science 8 and Biology)
■ With all this being said, I am excited and honored to teach the class of 2022. You ALL have such potential. These systems are put in place to help you be successful.
■ If you have any questions, let me know.
End of Class Procedure
■ The Bell do not dismiss you, I do.■ “I will wait until EVERYONE is silent and seated.”■ You will remain seated after the bell rings and wait for the
phrase, “At this time, you may stand up, please push in your chair, and you are dismissed.”
■ The better you listen, the sooner you leave.
