What Have We Heard so Far?

There is an opportunity for Metro to take a leadership role in addressing goods movement issues

Both “macro” and “micro” freight issues are important to consider

There are freight, passenger, and active transportation conflicts occurring at the curb, along highly utilized freight and transit corridors, and in the first/last mile

The Goods Movement Strategic Plan can be an effective vehicle for advocating for funding for LA County

This plan should lay out a regional vision for goods movement priorities that can be used to influence state and federal policy

17

Page 18: PowerPoint Presentationmedia.metro.net/images/2020/02-meeting1-goods-movement-mfwg.… · 2:45-2:50 PM Overview of Roundtable Discussions . 2:50-3:40 PM Roundtable Discussions . 3:40

What Have We Heard so Far?

LA County should be a test bed for deployment of innovative technology and clean fuel applications

There is an opportunity to link together public and private investment in the regional rail system to improve both passenger and freight mobility

Freight industry focus could strengthen existing Metro workforce development activities

Freight movements present significant equity concerns; but freight industry provides access to opportunity for many LA County residents

• …a national leader in implementing innovative, efficient and effective policies, programs, and projects that support the safe movement of people and goods in a competitive global economy

• …a steward of equitable and sustainable investments

• …LA County’s champion for a cohesive and coordinated freight transportation system
