PowerPoint 2007: Inserting Music Clips and Music Settings This tutorial will illustrate inserting music and various slideshow music settings for PowerPoint 2007.

Insert Music:

1. Copy the sound file from the location you have it stored and put it with your PowerPoint. It is recommend to create a folder to store all the necessary files and the PowerPoint that go together.

2. Convert your sound file if necessary. It must be one of the following file types: aiff, au, mid, midi,

mp3, wav, or wma; no other file type will play in PowerPoint 2007.

3. Click Insert on the ribbon and click sound

4. Select the ‘sound from file option’ after clicking sound

5. Select whether you want to click the sound icon to start the music playing or whether you want the

music to play automatically.

Automatically means the music will play when that slide is reached in the slide show. When clicked means you will need to click the sound icon to get the music to begin when that slide is reached in the slide show.

6. The sound icon will appear in the PowerPoint on the slide you inserted the music on.

Set Music Properties:

1. Click on the sound icon (found on the PowerPoint slide the sound was inserted on)

2. Click the animations tab on the ribbon and then click custom animation

3. Set when the music will start playing by changing the start drop down in the custom animation

window/sidebar.

Click the drop down list in the start area to change when the music will start playing.

4. Click the drop down next to the song title and select timing for more advanced options

5. Set when you want the song to start playing and when you want the song to stop playing in the effect tab.

Use the settings in the effect tab to control when the song starts and stops playing.

6. Set a delay for the song to start playing or the repetition in the timing tab.

Use the timing tab to control the delay and the repetition of the music.

7. Hide the sound icon and set the volume in the sound settings tab.

Use the sound settings tab to control the volume of the clip.

Notes:

• The audio editor currently installed on all district computers is called Audacity and can be accessed by going to start, programs and then multimedia.

• Note that once you add a sound file to a PowerPoint you cannot move or delete the sound file. If you choose to do so, the music will no longer run in the PowerPoint.
