Schritt 1 — Keyboard

Turn the computer so that the portsare facing you.

If the keyboard is locked, open theport cover and turn the keyboardlocking screw until the keyboard isunlocked.

Schritt 2

Pull the keyboard release tabstoward you and lift up on thekeyboard until it pops free.

Make sure you have removed thelaptop battery and CD/DVD modulefrom the expansion bays beforeproceeding.

Schritt 3

Lift the keyboard out by pulling it upand away from you. Rest thekeyboard, face down, on top of thetrackpad.

In order to replace the keyboard, youmust first remove the modem.

Schritt 4 — Heat Shield

Remove the three silver Phillipsscrews that attach the heat shield tothe internal metal framework.

Pull the battery cable directly upfrom the logic board.

Remove the battery from its holderby pulling up and to the left.

Remove the two silver Phillipsscrews from the modem.

Use a spudger, the tips of yourfingers, or a flat non-metal tool toget under the modem's edge and pryit up from its socket as shown in thepicture.

Use a spudger, the tips of yourfingers, or a flat non-metal tool topry up the processor's right side.

Schritt 14

Disconnect the keyboard cable fromthe logic board by pulling directly upon the clear plastic loop.

This step is out of sequence with thekeyboard because in order toremove the keyboard you must firstremove the modem.

Schritt 16 — RAM

Release the tabs on each side of theRAM chip at the same time. Thesetabs lock the chip in place andreleasing them will cause the chip to"pop" up.

Pull the RAM chip out.

There are RAM slots on both sidesof the processor. We recommendinstalling higher capacity chips onthe bottom so that if you want toupgrade later, you won't have toremove the processor.

Schritt 17 — Hard Drive

Grasp the orange cable at the leftend of the hard drive and disconnectit from the logic board.

Try to grasp the cable on the plasticconnector rather than on the flexiblecable section.

Schritt 18

Grasp the plastic tab and pull thehard drive up and to the left, makingsure that the metal bracket doesn'tcatch on the black plastic casing.

Schritt 19 — Clutch Cover

Push the display back so that it liesflat.

Schritt 20

Slip a spudger or your index fingerunder the clutch cover near thepower button and pull gently upwarduntil you feel it come free.

Repeat the previous step on the leftside.

Lift the clutch cover up and off,rotating it toward yourself.

Schritt 22 — Inverter

Grasp the orange display data cableand disconnect it from the logicboard.

Pull the display cable straight up sothat it is vertical.

Grasp the thin display inverter boardat its left end, push the left endforward to get the board beyond thetab, and then lift the entire board up.

There are two tabs that hold thedisplay inverter in place that youneed to get past in order to pull theboard free.

Disconnect the white inverter cableconnector from the right end of theboard.

Turn the laptop around so that itsback faces you.

Open the port door located at theback of the laptop.

Remove the four black Torx screws.

Hold the display on both sides andpull directly up until its hinges arefree of their mounts.

Turn the Lombard so that thetrackpad is nearest you and slide thethin plastic shield away from you,out from under the black casing.

Disconnect the newly revealed thinorange ribbon from the logic board,to the left of the trackpad.

Remove the two long silver Torxscrews.

Schritt 32

Turn the laptop over.

Remove the seven Torx screws from the bottom casing.

There are two long screws in the front left and front right corners; make sure to put these back inthe proper place when reassembling.

Remove the three short black Torx screws from the metal frame.

Remove the short black Torx screw to the far left that fastens the logic board to the casing.

There is a small black plastic spacer that goes between the bottom left screw and the logic board.

has cleared the slot that the casinglocks into, pull up enough to keep itfrom locking back into place.

Schritt 35

The PC card eject button on thelaptop's left side prevents the uppercasing from lifting up. In order tobypass the button, push it in farenough so that you can pull theupper casing's left side out and upbeyond the button.

Schritt 36

Lift the left side of the case partly upso that you can access anddisconnect the audio in/out cablesfrom the sound card in the upperright of the case.

Be careful not to lift the upper casingtoo far before you havedisconnected the audio in/out cablesor you may damage the sound card.

Schritt 39 — Power Card

Remove the two long silver Torxscrews from the power card in thecenter of the laptop.

Grasp the power card near the blackplastic shield and lift up.

Schritt 40 — Framework

Remove the single short black Torxscrew anchoring the metalframework to the lower casing.

Use a five millimeter nut driver orneedle-nose pliers to remove thesmall metal nut from the bolt in thelaptop's back left corner.

If you're using pliers, be extremelycareful not to let them slip or youmay damage the logic board.

Lift the sound card out by pulling upon both the right and left sides.

If the sound card sticks, pull theblack metal wall of the casingtoward you while lifting the right sideof the sound card up.

Schritt 46 — Logic Board

Turn the laptop around so that thefront faces you.

Move the metal yoke to the left,making sure to leave the springattached.

Gently lift the front edge of the logicboard and then pull it toward you.

There are two major obstacles toavoid when removing the logicboard: the first is the fan andconnector cables, and the second isthe bolt in the back left corner.

Schritt 48 — PC Card Cage

Turn the logic board over.

Remove the four Phillips screwsholding the PC card cage to thelogic board.

Two of the screws are short and twoare longer. The two short screws goon the side closer to the PC cardeject button.
