New Unified User Interface


New unified user interface (‘Workplace’) for use with Network Manager Unified UI for WS500 & ORMAP

Design and implementation based on output of ABB corporate research survey

Providing advanced information visualisation & toolset commands to differing users and roles (e.g. operators, engineers, analysts …)

Offers improved look & feel Interactive pan & zoom Tabbed GUI replacing current menus and toolbars

Background maps (e.g. Google Earth / Bing) as display layer

New tabular displays

Supports easy to use permission based settings and configurations – stored on servers for ease of access to other consoles at runtime

Supports multi-window management (no longer constrained to 4 windows)

Workplace – The Main User Interface


The Runtime Workplace


Is the main user interface for the new HMI

Comprises 5 distinct tool viewing areas

Each tool viewing area capable of providing information in differing forms and detail

Each tool viewing area provides a dockable user interface to enable user preference’d screen customisations

The workplace utilises a ‘Ribbon’ based toolbar tab interface – in keeping with the Ribbon concept now common place in MS Office and other leading software applications

Demonstration of PSE


Demonstration Narrative


Whilst PSE currently supports outage management via its integrated OMS, this demonstration does not include all activities related to outage management (i.e. Customer calls, incident reporting, crew assignment etc.) Location of OMS tools shown




Start of demonstration scenario

Customers calling in to report electrical outage in side-street off 'Gould Boulevard‘

Further reports of line damage being witnessed in that area and in the vicinity of asset # 265064. Locate and zooming feature used (via search tool) to investigate location and

feeder arrangement




Change of background / foreground imagery, owing to specific feeder colouring assigned and to facilitate user legibility Turn map on/off

Change map type

Change opacity level

Change network line colouring mode




Whilst crew have been dispatched and are enroute, for matters of expediency, the operator decides to ready himself/herself and the system for an outage that is likely to require network reconfiguration.

As we will probably need to revisit this specific location (view), the current view is saved Bookmark / favorites feature used as a placeholder, to retain specific view detail -

bookmark / favorite to be renamed for ease of future reference

Trace feature is used to highlight feeder extents Differing traces are run to help operator understand current network configuration

and limitations

Trace feature used to identify the nearest upstream protection devices by use of the trace results object list and to subsequently locate and zoom into a device




On arrival, crews advise line down and that they require line isolation to perform corrective measures

Owing to all potential isolation points along feeder being no-load operational devices, there is a need to de-energise the line from the nearest load break point (in this scenario, the closest device is the main feeder CB at Hurricane Creek Substation)

User navigates to the main source CB from resultant object list obtained during upstream protection devices trace Locate and zoom feature used to navigate from list

Further zooming and panning operations performed to obtain required detail level




As we will need to revisit this specific location, save the current view Bookmark feature used to retain specific view detail - and renamed for ease of

reference

It is now apparent that differing areas of the network will need to be seen simultaneously - hence, further views are required The view is duplicated

It is also possible to set up multiple co-ordinated views to enable overview and detail views to be used (shown, but subsequently removed for display clarity)




Feeder de-energised by opening feeder switch / CB Action panel is evoked and open operation on feeder CB executed

Following confirmation that the CB/Switch has been opened, the crew are instructed to test line dead and break jumpers; this to enable subsequent line energisation and restoration of supplies to as many customers as possible Line break applied in proximity of fault




Crew reports back that jumpers broken and line clear for re-energisation Action window is evoked and operation to close feeder CB executed

After period of time, crew report back that fault remedied and request circuit de-energisation to enable jumper re-make Action window is evoked and operation to open feeder CB executed

Following confirmation that the CB/Switch has been opened, the crew are instructed to test line dead and to make jumpers; this to enable subsequent line energisation and restoration of supplies to whole feeder Line break removed




Crew reports back that jumpers made and line clear for re-energisation Action window is evoked and command to close feeder CB executed

Supplies now fully restored Return PSE to default view (restore screen) and remove saved views / bookmarks
