FlossThe most important time to floss is before going to bed. Floss before or after you brush, either is fine. Guide the floss between the teeth and use it to gently rub the side of each tooth.

What happens when you do not brush your teeth?

Page 19: Power point created by Janie Darby Pictures compiled from Bing Images

Not brushing your teeth causes cavities.

The sticky coating on your teeth called plaque is loaded with bacteria that act like little roving Pacmen, eating away at and boring holes (a.k.a. cavities) in your teeth.

Not brushing your teeth causes receding gums. When you do not brush your teeth, your gums will recede and separate from your teeth. Receding gums often lead to gum disease and, in severe cases, tooth loss.

Not brushing your teeth causes bad breath.Unless you're a hermit who likes to keep other people at a distance, brushing your teeth is a social requirement for maintaining fresh-smelling, non-offensive breath. The same bacteria that eat away at your teeth also makes your mouth stink.

Not brushing your teeth may even cause heart disease. If your gums are diseased, they release higher levels of endotoxins and other bacteria into your bloodstream every time you chew your food, and these harmful germs can lodge in various organs. People with severe gum disease have about four times the amount of harmful bacteria in their blood as do those with healthy gums.
