What is a doi number? Stands for Digital Object Identifier. “…is a unique alphanumeric string assigned by a

registration agency … to identify content and provide a persistent link to its location on the internet” (APA, 2010, p. 189).

Usually located near the top of page one of an article and on the longer view of the database entry.

More About the doi. Don’t confuse the DOI with an ISSN

number or an accession number. If you do not see the letters doi before a number, it is not a doi number.

If an article does not have a DOI, then use the URL for the periodical’s home page.
