Opinion Question

Poverty = the state of being extremely poor (oxford dictionary)

Generating sustainable income and permanent employment through the government programs in which IFAD(International foodservice distribution association) participates, with a focus on the poorest and most marginalized segments of the population.

Strengthening capacities to learn from experienceand build effective methodologies for scaling up rural development strategies.

Indigenous Peoples Programme and the Environment  This programme focuses on the issue of equal access to natural resources and fair distribution of national resources, with respect to traditional and cultural heritage.

The policy will increase crop yields and livestock

Provide new markets for small-scale producers. IFAD also supports microenterprise development

projects Fair distribution of natural resources Linkages with local markets and the use of new

technologies and information resources to benefit smallholder farmers.

Seung Min: The policy is really good. It is not just subside the poverty people, but teaching the skills to be competitive. So later, the poverty people can independent from the subsides. However, Mexico gave up a lot of sovereignty. This policy is supported by IFDI, the supranational organization group. And actually, this is 8th policy with IFDI. Already Mexico done some policies with IFDI 7th time. As Mexico cooperate with IFDI more and more, the debt that have to pay IFDI is increased more and more and the sovereignty of Mexico is getting weaker.

Takuya: Unlike SM, I think this policy is not good for people especially young people. I understand that by this policy, people are treated fairly, but if government/employer guarantees the jobs for those people who are young, poor, etc, those people will start to depend on guaranteed job and will not be able to stand by themselves. In some day, this will affect vastly every single person who lives in this Earth.

1. One of problem of Mexico is the weak government. However, most poverty reduction policy is supported by other countries such as US or Supranational organization. If you’re a leader of Mexico, will you keep pushing the policy that helps poverty but ask to give up more sovereignty? Why?
