What areas and who is affected?

• Sub Saharan Africa is the main area in Africa that is affected by poverty.

• Nearly half the population live under this poverty line.

• It is estimated that approximately 300 million people are affected by this burden of extreme poverty in Africa.

Facts about poverty in Africa

• 315 million people in Sub Saharan Africa survive on less than a dollar per day.

• Less than 50% of Africa’s population has access to hospitals.

• Only 57% of children go to primary school in Africa with only a third of children completing school.

• Children count for half of the civilian casualties in African wars.
