NOTICE Summer is almost over. There have been numerous parades and I thank all of you for your attendance and participation. Parades are our best advertisement. If you did not attend the western Kansas picnic at Wallace, you missed a great day of fellowship

and lots of great food. Thank you Mark and Cindy Smith and the western Kansas Shrine Clubs for hosting the day.We had a great Potentate’s Ball in June. Thank you Darin and Sarah Martin for all your preparations and hosting for the evening. It was everything we wanted for a Ball. 2016 Imperial session was held in July in Tampa and was attended by five Isis nobles: Louie and Nancy Slavik, Tim Fowler, Mark and Cindy Smith, John and Gladys Gilpin, Doug and Marne Jolley. The seminar sessions were very informative, the fireworks on the 4th fantastic and the weather hot and humid. Another successful Golf Tournament was held in July. It was enjoyed by many; the steaks were great afterwards also. Thank you to Lance Waymaster and his crew who organized the event. East-West Shrine football game is over. Thanks to the units and clubs for feeding the players and coaches the five nights prior to the game. Also thanks to all those that helped and furnished food for the hospitality room at the game. August 6th was our first gun raffle. It proved to be a very successful event. I wish to thank the many people that helped and those who donated prizes. I especially want to thank Darin Martin and Tim Fowler for their great job of managing and organizing the gun raffle. Job well done! Election is just a few months away. Do you know anyone who might be interested in the position of Oriental Guide? It is time to start thinking about it. Prayers to those who are unable to attend our functions. We miss you. Illus. There are so many nobles and ladies to thank for a successful Shrine Bowl week–the Western Kansas ladies who provided cookies for the ball players while they were at practice in Salina and those who donated food for the hospitality table at Emporia. A special thanks to these individuals who helped serve the hospitality food: Steve and Barb Schoming, Rod Kalivoda, Dave Davis, Russ & Connie Ingle and Steve Gawith. It definitely takes many to have a successful event.

The following was taken from Strong to the Core written by H. Norman Wright. I can’t think of anything I could write that would be more appropriate:

Lord, You have given me everything good in my life. Remind me that I haven’t done it and that I’m not You. I pray now for a greater sense of responsibility... Help me never to do anything that I would spend the rest of my life regretting. Lord, I want to always remember my responsibility to my friends, to those I love, and to those who love me and those who don’t. I want to be faithful so I don’t disappoint those who love me. Help me not fail anyone who depends on me. Keep me from being a source of grief to others. Lord, sometimes it’s difficult to be faithful, but I know that You can keep me faithful. During the summer months we have been busy with parades around the state. (1) On July 4 the LOH, Clowns and Engineers participated in the Junction City Sundown Salute Parade at Junction City. (2) The Ottawa County Parade was on July 19. Hospitality was provided by the Ottawa County Shrine Club at the Boy Scout Hall. (3) On July 30, the East-West Shrine Bowl parade was held in Emporia with good attendance by LOH, Engineers and Clowns. (4) The Tri-Rivers Fair and Parade here in Salina was held on August 2. Many of our local Shriners participated. Unfortunately, the jeep “took a vacation.” Thank you Lady Nancy and Lady Gladys for setting up and cleaning up after the Hospitality.(5) On August 4, we attended the Abilene Free Fair Parade. The LOH, Engineers, and Clowns, as well as the JC Shrine Club, attended. A special thank you to Chuck Weaver and Paul Hoerner of the Abilene Shrine Club for the hospitality hog roast/hamburger-hotdog feed. A great deal of work and cooperation was needed to accomplish everything associated with this year’s Shrine Bowl. A special thank you to everyone for the hard work and planning! On July 22, Galen & Bonnie Elliott, Richard Christiancy, and several nobles and their wives fed the football players. Don Boxberger led the group in feeding them again on July 23. Then on July 26, the Uniformed Units, Bobby Hodge and Richard Christiancy prepared a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. The food was wonderful at all the meals! The football players and coaching staff were very appreciative & polite, and it was great talking with them. The actual Shrine Bowl activities were held on July 30 in Emporia, beginning with the parade mentioned above, and culminating with the Shrine Bowl Game. There was a great turn out! As we finished the summer activities, the Hog Roast, was held on August 20th at the Shrine Temple and was delicious. It has been great working with everyone during these activities. Your help is greatly appreciated!

LEGION OF HONOR PARADES

Here we are at the end of a very successful summer. In May, your Divan decided to join Midian, Ararat and Abdallah Temples in the 4th Annual Sportsman Event. We were about 1 month behind the other Temples in getting our tickets and by the time we launched, most of our Shrine Clubs and Units where dark for the summer. However ,about 50 Nobles stepped up and helped us sell tickets and make the event on August 6th in Salina very successful. The way the event worked is Midian bought the 100 guns and paid for the tickets to be printed with our name on them. The ticket price was $20.00 and we got to keep $10.00 for every ticket we sold. Then the day of the drawing, we held a party at the Shrine Center with some games and other raffles going on. The day of sales paid for all of our expenses so our ticket money was all profit. We would like to thank the Legion of Honor, Greeters, Illustrious Sir Louis, Chief Rabban Darin and South Solomon Shrine Club for helping us with prizes for the Salina part of the event. I am happy to report that Isis Shriners cleared around $18,000 from this event. We are starting to put our committee together for next years event, it will be on the 1st Saturday of August 2017. Shrine Office Closed

It has been some time since an update has appeared in the Isis Newsletter from the Legion of Honor. I will apologize for this slight. The following are just a few of the activities that have occurred over the past two months. On July 4, we participated in the Sundowner Parade in Junction City. We had a good turnout to ride the trailer. The Parade went well. However, I tried to keep up with our Treasurer, Steve Schoming, in returning to the staging area. (I found out that was not a good idea.) Riders on the trailer had a wild and terrifying ride. I had the window up on my truck and could not hear the riders yelling and screaming to slow down. I was banned from ever pulling the trailer in a parade again. On July 16, John Reynolds sponsored a Legion of Honor Golf Team to participate in the Russell Shrine Golf Tournament. The tournament was a lot of fun and a steak dinner followed. The Ottawa County Parade in Minneapolis was on July 19. John Reynolds pulled the trailer. Again, there was a good turnout to ride the trailer. Ottawa County Shrine Club hosted the hospitality at the shelter in the park. On July 30, I pulled the Legion of Honor trailer in the Shrine Bowl Parade in Emporia. Don Moser was the only rider. He said I did a good job and the ride was not wild or terrifying. Hospitality followed the parade. I must compliment the Isis Divan. They did an outstanding job putting this hospitality on. August 2 was the Tri-Rivers Fair Parade in Salina. Thanks to everyone who attended and rode the trailer. We had a good turnout. Our latest parade was on August 4. This was the Abilene Free Fair Parade. We had several riders for this parade. Abilene Shrine Club had pulled pork at the Civic Center. Thank you. You did an outstanding job.
