While in high school, a teacher once told me I had good posture.

I hope this still holds true as to have good posture is to adopt a pose; take a position; to behave with intent, be it to impress or mislead.

Drawing upon the title of an early scholarly text written by Pierre Abélard, Sic et Non, in which rules were posited for the reconciliation of quotational contradictions found throughout Christian theology, posture proposed its first theme.

Sic et Non. So and Not. Yes and No.

The first issue of posture called for submissions of dialectic nature, extending an invitation to; draw, write, postulate, critique, review, scrawl, photograph, cut, and erase comparisons, contrasts, and collisions of objects, thoughts, and reasoning.

Some pictures were drawn, some prose written, and inconsistencies were pasted, into what one delightfully imagines may have been a gloppy mess, upon the authors table.

posture sought to be an excuse to do something; to adopt a pose; take a position; to behave with intent, be it to impress or mislead.

These are pages with good posture. They may not all stand straight, with shoulders squared and hips aligned, but to see how they stand is to see poses adopted and approaches taken; to see intentions.

This is an experiment. And anything goes.So long as it has good posture.

volumes from voidsIn what we omit, leave unarticulated in our interventions, substance can be found. It is in what is left unsaid, the presumed obviousness of our pursuit, our posture resounds.

The view/re view roomsuggests the suspension of time in removing the evidence of its passing. The space intentionally speaks quietly, resounding instead is invitation for one’s thoughts to articulate the occupation of the space; an invitation to consider what has been and what is to come in the spatial manifestation of limbo.

When I was 13 my art class was given the assignment of depicting a heroic figure, or perhaps that is what I chose to do in reaction to some other brief. I chose to make a clay figurine of Perseus holding the freshly dismembered head of Medusa. I remember my teacher and class mates being most impressed by the component parts I had produced. I did not submit the work as the end product was not up to standard. This is the kind of person I am. And work has been very busy lately.

Secret Places and Hidden Spaces in Dwellings.Architecture of Fear. [Anne Troutman]

Photocopies of Troutmans personal mani-festation were used as the primary basis for the working material. A suggestion of secret places and hidden spaces in dwell-ings have been designed through a process of using:light and dark, image and text, solid and void, inside and outside, digital and manu-al, two dimensional and three dimensional, fixed and moveable.

The spaces listed in the manifesto and re-sulting designs are: closets, halls, attics, back stairs, fire escapes, boiler room, base-ment, sheds, and on the roof.

Sic et Non. So and Not. Yes and No. Say yes to Say no:is proposal explores what we can say no to, by choosing more carefully what we say yes to. ese are the starting points of a work in progress which has become one of collaboration. ey, (see right) will occupy these spaces here (photographed) and it is about these things here (see below):

e e Fairtrade movement aims simply to facilitate trading partnerships based on equality and transparency by contributing to sustainable development for marginalised producers, workers and their communities. Saying yes to fairtrade is to say yes to education, clean water, independence and equality for the impoverished, and to say no to obscene profits for the few at the cost of the majority.e economy of the supermarket is fairly simple. ey supply to the demand and action of the consumer. erefore when you buy, you vote. e more people vote for fairtrade products, the more fairtrade products the supermarket will source to meet demand. Small changes to our shopping lists can result in life changes for others. Too easy.

All with good posture.

posture would like to extend a kind and heartfelt word of thanks to all those who have supported, encouraged, and contributed to this, the first issue of posture; and would also like to mention the excitement of working with you again preceding the next.
