IMPERIAL BEACH SHOPPERS:

Wednesday, Oct. 16

Post Number 2

ATTENTION IMPERIAL BEACH SHOPPERS: Club stores are popular with grocery shoppers, so we are about to test that trend at Naval Outlying Landing Field Imperial Beach, Calif., beginning Oct. 24, when that store expands its club-pack assortment. For the next year, Imperial Beach will be known as a “Commissary Plus” pilot store when it reopens nearly a third of its sales area will consist of club-pack, product assortments similar to the oversized or multiple-product packs sold at commercial warehouse club outlets. To prepare for the transition, the commissary will be closed Oct. 21-23 to set up the aisles and reopen Oct. 24 as a Commissary Plus store. Club-pack assortments will include: paper towels, bathroom tissue, bar soaps, detergent, fabric softener, pet foods, coffee creamer, juices, water, soft drinks, canned foods (vegetables, meat and fruit), rice, snacks and frozen meals. Imperial Beach will also offer traditional commissary products. Customer acceptance of this trend will be monitored during the test period to decide the future of this hybrid concept.
