This programme is designed to provide Registered Nurses and Registered Health Professionals with an integrated, supported theoretical and practical programme of study to ensure the development of specialty knowledge and skills required of a health professional working in the New Zealand context. The Postgraduate Certificate in Specialty Care can be completed over two years. All papers are 17 weeks in duration and each paper is a combination of online and short block tutorials delivered at our Porirua campus. All papers are NZQA accredited at Level 8 and approved by Nursing Council of New Zealand. One Whitireia Level 8 postgraduate paper is equivalent to a 30 credit paper. PAPER INFORMATION Specialty Practice (45 credits) This paper offers students the opportunity to specialise in their area of employment by further developing their knowledge and understanding of scopes of practice and workplace standards. The purpose is to expand the student’s ability to explore the theoretical constructs or frameworks in relation to models of care and key concepts of health care. This enables the student to extend their knowledge in relation to working with Tāngata Whaiora, patients or clients and the whānau/family. Modules covered include: > Theoretical Constructs or Frameworks > Specialty Practice > Recovery, Primary Health Care, Culture Specific Care > Professional Practice CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Work completed as part of programme requirements may contribute to evidence for use in Professional Development Recognition Programmes (PDRP). Successful graduates may also gain credits towards Master’s studies.
