“Postcards from Catalonia” Ada Lis Jimena - mezzo-soprano, Cara Ellen Modisett - piano

Catalonia is a culturally distinct region of Spain. It has its own language, Catalan, which is a blend of Spanish and an old southern French dialect.

Catalonia also has a range of indigenous folk music traditions that differ from those heard elsewhere in Spain.

This Spanish and French blend is reflected in Catalonian composers. Most of them lived in Spain but studied in Paris, influenced by composers such as Ravel, Debussy, and Poulenc.

This program is dedicated to three primary Catalonian composers of the 20th century: Eduard Toldra, Frederic Mompou and Xavier Montsalvatge.
