PH2 nationalpost.com NATIONAL POST, SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 2011 If you leave Tableau thinking it doesn’t look like anything else you’ve seen in a model suite, consider that a compliment to the designers. The folks at Cecconi Simone Interior Design weren’t looking to create just another model. The difference is apparent upon entry. The 610-square-foot unit is almost completely white, right down to the flat-screen television, which the team painted. Bits of black show up, very purposely, only in the kitchen. “It’s almost like looking at the space like an art installation,” interior designer Elaine Cecconi says. “You can really appreciate it when there’s no distraction of col- ours and materials. So rather than use a lot of colour, we used texture. While white is the main colour, it’s not all one tone of white.” The space is ever changing: Bi-folding doors can hide the kitchen at will, modifying the suite completely. When the doors are open, the black cabinetry and back-painted glass backsplash create a vivid statement, but when they’re closed, black still show up through graphic cutouts, providing a peek at what’s inside. “We wanted to create contrast,” Ms. Cecconi says. Suites at Tableau — by Urban Capital, Malibu Investments and Alit Developments — range in size from 405 to 1,036 sq. ft. and in price from the mid-$200,000s to $621,900. The sales office is located at 117 Peter St., Toronto, and is open Monday to Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and weekends from noon to 5 p.m. Call 416-591-8887 or visit tableaucondos.com. new condos Oh, Tableau! The secret to the design: a nearly all-white interior reminiscent of an art installation By Lisa Van de Ven 1 2 3 4 5 6 1 You won’t find these bench- es in a store, but you might be able to make them yourself. Cus- tom-created by Cecconi Simone, they’re simply two-by-fours strapped together and painted white, with cushions on top for comfort. “They look homemade versus manufactured — like someone made them in their shop.” Ms. Cecconi says. 2 Like the benches, the din- ing table is custom. The base — which resembles “pick-up sticks” — was inspired by the building’s planned public art: a Shayne Dark sculpture called Nova, featuring five-storey acid- green “sticks” that will puncture the podium. “It’s a really dynam- ic piece,” Ms. Cecconi says. 3 “It’s less predictable to do three different light fixtures,” the designer says of these Tom Dixon beauties. Black on the outside to match the dining table, the gold colour inside adds an unexpect- ed twist. 4 You might recognize the side lamps in the bedroom; the Tizio table lamps, designed by Richard Sapper in the 1970s, are classic. Usually found in black, “the white gives them a more contemporary look,” Ms. Cecconi says. “It’s a way to up- date them.” 5 Looking to integrate diverse tones and textures, the designers raided Designer Fabric Outlet for white materials to create this headboard. The fabrics were as- sembled in a mishmash pattern that’s not gridded or geometrical, creating a whimsical design. 6 While the suite’s bi-fold doors hide the kitchen on a whim, these full-height sliding doors mean the bedroom and den can also be hidden away. When they’re pushed back, they create an open, airy space — a great way to make 610 square feet feel larger.
