ABOUT NATIONAL INSURANCE ACADEMY (NIA)
Popularly known as NIA, the Academy was established in the year 1980 under the aegis of Ministry of Finance (Government of India);Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) and Public Sector General Insurance Companies – National Insurance Co. Ltd., The New India Assurance Co. Ltd., The Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd and United India Insurance Co. Ltd. as its promoters.
Currently the Governing Board of NIA has Chairman of LIC, Chairman-Cum-Managing Directors of GIC and Public Sector General Insurers, representative of Ministry of Finance, Government of India along with eminent independent members from Academia chosen for their unique contribution to the cause of Insurance, Education and Finance and other fields. The present Chairman of NIA Governing Board is Shri V. K. Sharma, Chairman, LIC of India, and Director of NIA is Shri Sushobhan Sarker, former Managing Director of LIC.
The sponsorship and patronage enjoyed by NIA have made it a prime destination for Education, Research, Training, Consultancy, Leadership Development in Insurance, Pension and Risk Management in the Afro-Asia region.
Keeping in tune with Vision and Mission of NIA, the Academy has been engaged in :
a. Designing, developing and conducting innovative Management Development Programmes (MDPs) for Insurance Professionals both at Middle and Senior Management level from Insurance Industry and other allied sectors from India and abroad since its inception in 1980.
b. Research and Publication in Insurance, Pension and allied sectors.
c. Nurturing a stream of young talent for the Insurance, Pension and allied sectors. NIA launched two year full time management programme with specific focus on Insurance, Pension and allied areas, in 2004.
POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT (PGDM)
The curriculum consists of core Management subjects like Finance, HR, Marketing and IT along with subjects in insurance space on General, Life, Re-insurance and Pensions. Thus, the PGDM of NIA stands out in comparison with other PGDM Courses of similar nature and gives the student an added advantage of choosing an industry like Insurance which is set for unprecedented expansion while making their career choices.
The unique blend of Management and Insurance has made the programme attractive to the employers giving a choice of well nurtured talent ready to take up any managerial position in Insurance and allied areas. NIA has the distinction of having 100% placement record right from the First Batch. The Alumni are working with reputed Multinational and Public Sector Reinsurance, Insurance Companies, Brokers and leading IT Companies, both in India and abroad.
The PGDM is a full time programme that has hostel facility for about 120 number of students run from a 32 Acre sylvan campus with the state-of-the-art facilities that include classrooms, labs, conference hall etc. In addition, the campus has a swimming pool, outdoor games facilities, gym and yoga centre.

The PGDM Programme offered by National Insurance Academy (NIA) has the highest reputation in its category across the country.
While the programme follows the structure of the curriculum prescribed by AICTE- offering all core management subjects, the
autonomy enjoyed by the Academy enables us to develop the content in such a manner as to make the students ready for
employment in the Insurance Industry as well as the IT Industry which aims to develop solutions for the insurance sector. As the
insurance industry is on the cusp of a sustained multi-year growth extending upto a decade or more opting a course which can open
the gateway to such a sunrise sector makes eminent sense.
By virtue of being founded by the public sector insurance companies the Academy has very close collaboration with the Insurance
Industry. The students here have a chance to not only learn the science of management from highly qualified and experienced
academicians but also the art of managing from Senior Industry Professionals who are deputed by insurance companies on full
time basis for Faculty positions in NIA . This is a unique advantage of studying in NIA which very few institutes can match.
The Academy has close relation with Insurance Institute of India (III), the premier body for certification of insurance knowledge due
to which students who successfully complete the PGDM Programme get exemptions at the Associate level examination of III based
on specified criteria. This enables the students to pursue and complete the Fellowship examination of III in record time. With
requisite background students are also encouraged to pursue the examination of the Institute of Actuaries, India or other
professional institutions in the insurance and actuarial disciplines.
NIA has an enviable track record in the placement of students from the campus itself. NIA's reputation and industry linkage ensure
students get a head start in campus placements. NIA alumni have won acclaim for their knowledge, skills and attitude wherever
they are employed. They are rapidly moving up in the hierarchy and occupying top positions in the corporate world.
The campus is self-sufficient for the day to day needs of the students who reside in the campus hostel. The 32 acre campus with

About PGDM Programme
NIA offers Two year Full time residential Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) approved by AICTE. The curriculum
consists of Management Subjects like Finance, HR, Marketing and IT; insurance subjects under General Insurance, Life Insurance,
Re-Insurance and Pension.
The students also do Summer Internship of 8 weeks with Public Sector and Private Sector Insurance Companies, leading
Brokers and major IT companies.
Additionally, the students undertake a Major Research Project in consultation with the assigned faculty guide. This helps them
develop an ability to scientifically explore various issues by applying Business Research Methods.
The Management subjects are taught by highly qualified, experienced faculty, most of them having a Ph.D in the relevant discipline.
The General Insurance subjects like Fire, Marine, Engineering, Aviation, Liability, Life Insurance subjects including basics of Actuarial
Science, Pension and Re-Insurance are handled by senior executives of the public sector insurance companies who are on deputation
to NIA. There are regular visiting faculty, specialised in various fields, who add value to our PGDM Programme. This blend of faculty is
unique and rare in the academic field. The rigorous exposure to theoretical aspects and practical understanding of the
subjects make the students ready for Executive positions in the Corporate World.
The Insurance fraternity particularly from Mumbai looks forward to the Insurance Summit, an annual event in Mumbai,
exclusively organised by the students. They assist in organising NIA - FAIR International Seminar and C D Deshmukh Memorial
Seminar, two conferences held at the campus every year. They also actively participate in India Rendezvous.
These activities give them an opportunity to: i. rub shoulders with the who's who of the Insurance and other Allied Industry including
International Speakers and delegates; ii. develop organising abilities; iii. keep abreast with trends in the Industry and develop deeper
insights into the subjects. The insights gained during the Seminars are shared by them in their in-house Magazine “PRAVARTAK”.
Another unique advantage which the students enjoy is that they get an opportunity to exclusively interact with dignitaries who visit
our campus. Every year a number of CXOs, senior functionaries from the Regulators give their time for an interaction
with our students and invariably carry a lasting impression of the quality of engagement with the students.
They also participate in various activities like talent search competitive events, debate, quiz, syndicate discussions, group
discussions, a few CSR activities, indoor & outdoor games etc. In short, NIA focuses on all round development of students.
The programme is divided into six trimesters of 3 months each with rigorous course curriculum and practical training. The PGDM
students work on summer projects. They also have classroom projects, quizzes etc. through which they are continuously assessed
throughout the year. These are in addition to regular tests held in every trimester. All processes are AICTE compliant. This high
rigour of training and assessment helps in grooming of the future managers.

ADMISSIONSELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS FOR PGDM COURSE AT NIA:
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION
The applicant must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline
from a recognised University with a minimum of 50% marks.
Students appearing for final year can also apply, subject to
declaration of their examination results by June 30, 2018.
Should have appeared for CAT 2017 or CMAT 2018.
Age Criteria
Upper age limit is 28 years for General / OBC - NC candidates, stand 30 years for SC/ST/DA candidates as on1 July 2018.
Important Date
Last date for submission of filled up admission forms with thapplication fees is 15 March 2018.
Selection Procedure
Selection to PGDM of NIA is based on the following criteria:
Past academic record
Performance in CAT 2017 or CMAT 2018
Performance in pre-selection, Group Discussion & Personal
Interview.
Fee Structure
Rs. 11,25,000/-* (Rupees Eleven lakh Twenty Five Thousand
Only) for the entire programme.
The fee structure comprises tuition fee, hostel fee* (lodging as
well as boarding) professional and incidental expenditure on
account of the programme.
*Incase no hostel accommodation is available necessary relief in
fees is given to such non-resident students .
Student loans are available from leading Public Sector and
Private Banks.
ACADEMIC INFRASTRUCTURE
NIA has 10 Air Conditioned lecture halls equipped with state of
the art facilities. Three of these classrooms are dedicated for
PGDM Students. In addition, there are 8 syndicate rooms to
facilitate group discussions, case studies, presentations and
deliberations. Separate reading rooms are also available for the
use of the students.
NIA Convention Centre
NIA also has a best in class auditorium with a seating capacity of
220 with excellent audio visual system.
Glimpse into NIA Library
It is one of the finest libraries in India having the choicest
collection of books both in life and non-life insurance and
management areas. The reading room of this library is
equipped with almost all national and international journals in
insurance, Actuarial Science, Pensions and related areas
including journals for general awareness and entertainment. A
variety of research publications add further value to this already
rich knowledge bank.

Computer Facilities
NIA has a Windows based LAN, connected to 400 State-of-
the-art terminals spread all over the establishment. The
Academy has 2 classrooms for IT training .
Insurance Labs
The academy fosters a unique concept known as Insurance
Labs. There is a motor lab, marine lab and health lab for the
students to get practical knowledge on related general
insurance subjects.
Hostel
The students hostel "Sarvapalli" has around 62 fully
furnished spacious rooms on twin sharing basis. It also has a
spacious dining hall with attached kitchen. It has 24 hours
uninterrupted power and water supply. Round the clock
security is provided in the hostel and in the rest of the campus.
There is also the Internet facility for the students in the rooms.
NIA has transport arrangement to certain other parts of the
city on regular basis.
Grievance Redressal Committee
NIA is fully compliant with the regulations pertaining to
“Establishment of mechanism for Grievance Redressal
Regulations, 2012 of AICTE” & Gender Protection Committee.

Heath Care
NIA has a clinic where a doctor visits both in the morning and
evening and is available on call. In addition Students have the
benefit of mediclaim and personal accident cover up to a specified
amount under group policy.
Sports and Recreation
The multipurpose sporting complex has facilities for badminton,
table tennis, billiards, basketball, state-of-the-art-gymnasium,
sauna, Jacuzzi. There is a swimming pool in the sporting complex.
There is also an open ground for playing cricket and football.
Jogging Track and GIC Pathway
The 1.5 kms jogging track encircling the campus is a wonderful way
to breathe fresh air and hear chirping of birds. The GIC Pathway
close to sporting complex is a water-fed pathway with gravel for
acupressure therapy.
SCHOLARSHIPS
NIA gives 9 scholarships of Rs. 1 lakh each to meritorious students, girl students, eligible students belonging to specified categories
including students belonging to economically weaker sections.

Bank of Maharashtra and NIA Post Office are located near
the main gate of the campus for banking (Forex services also

Most of the officials including faculty working at NIA live on

the vibrancy. Many festivals are celebrated with enthusiasm
by the families of campus residents including children where
the students also are invited and participate wholeheartedly.
All cultural programmes involve all the residents of the campus
- students, MDP Trainees and the families of campus residents.
In short the students will feel that NIA is a home away from
home.
To sum up the students of the academy are provided with
every facility to grow intellectually, emotionally and
