Well here it is already December and Christmas is here. The month of December is a busy one and Post 44 welcome visitors back. It is good to see all of you.

We at Post 44 really have been blessed with great members and the units Auxiliary, Son’s, ALR you all are the best a Post can ask for. I can not say enough of all our officers who have really been putting a lot of hours in this year, just to name a few, Don Shannon our Jr. Vice should be in the “NO sleep hall of fame”, Tom Hughes our Finance Officer, web site coordinator, cabinet cleaning, picture hanging, promoter of the Post these guys seem to be like energizer bunnies. Next is our Sr. Vice Commander Mike Hatounian, Mike just seem to entertain for everybody at no charge. I thank David and Nettie and their staff for a great job in our club and lounge.

When we went to the fall conference in Tucson Larry Gingrich my Adjutant was Inducted into a Club called GNUTS, this is for Adjutants and one of his obligations was to confuse the Commander all he could. Larry is doing a great job at this Ha Ha, all the other officers, Trustees, Historian, Chaplain, Service Officer thank you for being great officers of Post 44.

I had the honor of presenting to Scottsdale Police Det. Tanya Corder Post 44’s Officer of the Year Award. Andy Jaime PDC joined me in this presentation and we will submit her application the Department for consideration as Officer of the Year for Arizona.

Home Depot has completed the ballroom, and the outside of our building is their next project. Please go by the Indian Bend Store and thank Nicole, Natasha and the employees for their work on our Post.

The Auxiliary will have their fund raiser dinner on December 7th Pearl Harbor Day. There will be a short memorial prior to dinner. We will have our Early Bird dinner on Tuesday 15 December. This is our way of saying thanks to our member’s for renewing you membership prior to the 31 December. Don’t forget our great New Year’s Eve Party this will be the best with Jared Howe entertaining. Please support your Post.

We still need your e-mail address as this is the only way we can contact you regarding Post activities. Please support our Capitol Assets Fund when you can. We still need to replace our AC units prior to our summer.

Please Support our Troops who are in harm’s way, let’s not forget the families of our Troops; they keep the home fires burning. Let’s also not forget our First Responders they need our support more than ever.

Maude and I wish all a very Merry Christmas and a Very Happy and Safe New Year.I’ll close with a paragraph from the “Cowboys Prayer”:I’m just a sinful cowpoke, Lord-ain’t got no business prayin- but still I hope You’ll ketch a word or two of what I’m

sayin’: we speak of Merry Christmas ,Lord- I reckon you’ll agree there ain’t no Merry Christmas for nobody that ain’t free. So one thing more I’ll ask of you, Lord: Just help us what you can to save some seeds of freedom for the future sons of man.

Jr. Vice Commander – Don Shannon

Sr. Vice Commander – Mike Hatounian

Our Octoberfest and Halloween events were very suc-cessful and I would like to thank those who participated for their support. Again I would like to thank Dee Hamilton and her crew for the decorations. If you would like to see some of the pictures from the Halloween Party they are posted on our web site.

We have some great events in December starting with the Ladies Auxiliary “Surf and Turf” Dinner on December 7th benefiting auxiliary charities. I will be providing music for this wonderful fundraiser and please remember there are only 100 tickets available.

On Friday, December 18th we will have our very own “Ugly Christmas Sweater Party” complete with music by none other than Randy Thomas who has helped make so many of our special events so successful. There will be prizes so get that ugly sweater out of moth balls or try your hand at making one. The ‘uglier’ the better.

On Sunday, December 20th I will be playing Christmas music for breakfast / brunch as I did last year. This year I have asked “Santa” to join us so please bring your family, children / grandchildren to enjoy great food, music and the “Big” guy in the red suit.

Don’t forget to plan on spending New Year’s Eve with us this year and once again enjoy the fabulous music of Jared Howe. Details for New Year’s Eve are posted in this Newsletter and on our Web site.

I wish you all the very best for the Holidays and please remember to say a prayer for the men and women who protect us and are not as fortunate to spend Christmas at home.

These are exciting times! The Auxiliary has once again stepped up and donated funds to allow for the purchase of a convection oven; the final component for the kitch-en. Dave and Charles have transformed the kitchen into an efficient operation that is now prepared to handle our regular activities in the bar area WITH banquets; simulta-neously. This is HUGE! With the total transformation and upgrades to the banquet room we can offer a 5 star venue for our members. So, lets pack the schedule with social events, weddings, birthdays, etc, etc.

Nettie has been working to perform the same transfor-mation on the front of the house; changes coming. You will also be seeing new wait staff so make them feel welcome.

SAL Commander – Ed Wallace

Happy Holidays! It’s been a great year! Squadron 44 has appointed 2 new officers for the 2015-2016 term. Brandon Vail is our acting Adjutant and Adam Rangel our acting Sergeant-at-Arms. Thanks to both of them for stepping up. It’s great to have you aboard.

New membership and renewals is at 60% for 2016. Get your renewals in by December 1st to be invited to the Early Bird Dinner on December 15th.

Join us for our meetings the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Stop in early to check out our new menu and enjoy a great dinner. See you at the Post!

God Bless

Auxiliary Community Service - Sue FayChristmas is in the air, and many of our activities are

geared that way! The Auxiliary’s Christmas family, this year, is made up of nine women Veterans, who live at Mary Ellen’s Place! We have provided them with a 7 ½ foot Blue Spruce Christmas tree for their family room. Each resident will receive gift cards which can be used to buy special needs. Each gal, living at Mary Ellen’s Place will have a very special Christmas this year!

At MANA House, we are providing Christmas pack-ages for approximately 50 men made up of necessities. MANA, by the way, stands for men formerly of the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, and Air Force who have been home-less and are now housed at MANA House.

Thank You to all who donated used prescription glasses for the Halloween Drive! These glasses will be re-cycled for Veterans.

We will be shopping for men’s items for the VA Gift Shop to be open November 30, and December 1, in the Veter-ans’ Hospital. The Veterans at the hospital are welcome to shop, at no charge, for themselves and their spouse or family. Several Auxiliary members will be assisting at the Gift Shop.

Food collection in the RED BUCKET is on-going and is delivered once a month. Our goal, since September, has been to donate the monthly food collection to children of Women Veterans through the organization, Veterans’ First Ltd.

Affordable Housing for Women Veterans and Shelters for Homeless Women & their Children is Veterans’ First Ltd.’s goal. We are happy to help provide the food for these families.

Boy Scouts - Bill Norling

Service Officer - Bob Pierce

November brought another opportunity to practice our skills. We ran a night time cooking exercise where the scouts were provided the raw materials and a 45 minute window. With one scout acting as the “restau-rant manager”, the troop broke into three teams and produced three meal components ready at the same time: Chicken Noodle soup with Made from Scratch Dumplings, no bake Cherry Pie with a homemade graham cracker crust and fried potatoes with peppers and onions. Everyone ate very well and were cleaned up within 30 minutes. Not bad for a Monday night! Contact: Scoutmaster Bill Norling. 480-626-4915 [email protected].

Listen up...”Honor Flights” to Washington DC for WWII veterans. Please don’t miss this opportunity for an all expense paid trip to visit the memorial, 3 days in all, and NOW we are taking applications from Korea Vets. So give up your membership in the Procrastination Klub. Get all your information and applications by call-ing Bob Pierce at (602) 264-2500. On the wish list for Post 44: looking for gently used kitchen equipment; contact the office if would you like to donate.

Auxiliary Corner, President Ellen Etzel

The Holidays are quickly approaching and it is hard to believe we are coming to the close of another year. Please buy your tickets for the “Surf and Turf” Fundraiser, as they are selling fast. It will be a fun night with our own Mike Hatounian donating his time to entertain us. Also, Randy Thomas will be Emceeing the event. We have lots of awesome prizes for our Chinese Auction.

A huge thank you to Avis Axtman who has stepped in to replace Barbara Lesko as our Unit Secretary. It is a very necessary position, but not the most fun one, so a big round of applause to her.

I am sorry to report that four of our members have recently passed. We performed our Draping Ceremony at our November 9th meeting for Judith Eisenhower, Beverly Gable, Judith Humphries and Rita Valeo. These ladies provided many years of valuable service and they will be missed immensely by all.

It was agreed at our November meeting to postpone our “Baby Shower” until January, rather than having it at our December meeting. Most of us are busy with our own shopping, baking, etc., so it made sense to have it when life is calmer.

Remember that we all have the power to influence our day. A positive attitude makes for a good day!
