From the Commander Greetings!
Thanks to all the VFW Post 2503 members and Auxiliary members and the Canteen crew who all went the extra-mile to pull off a very successful Saint Patrick’s Day at the Post. And another BIG THANKS goes to Linda Humphrey and her crew of volunteers who cooked and served the city’s best corned beef and cabbage. However, the Post is in need of a new Kitchen Manager. Call Tom Penke at 402-330-6860 for more information if you are interested. Hours and pay are negotiable. The District 10 Award Banquet and Ceremony for the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen winners will be April 8th at 12:30 pm. Following the Banquet, the District 10 meeting will be held. Saturday, April 21st is Post clean-up day. The list of the cleaning projects to be done can be seen at 10 am that Saturday morning. Then you can volunteer to help out on the one of your choice. If you can’t make it to the Post by 10 am, you are welcome to help out at any time you can get here. Finally, don’t forget about the new construction at the VA Hospital. It will eliminate almost half of the available parking spots. So plan to arrive extra-early at your future VA Hospital appointments in order to have enough time to find parking.

Honor Guard Meeting
2nd Thursday every month
7:00 pm
From the Auxiliary President
Hello Auxiliary Members
Another month has passed and the April meeting is just around the corner. And with the April meeting I know I have said it before but it is nomination and election of officers for the Auxiliary. It is very important that we have officers for the ensuing year. The meeting is April 19th and
a very important one. Please plan to attend.
Also District 10 is holding a meeting April 8th at the Post. At that meeting will be the Voice of Democracy and
Patriotic Pen winners.
The meeting is at 12:30. There will be a potluck dinner with District 10 supplying chicken, and we ask members to bring a side dish. And yes there will be nominations for elections of officers also. Yes April is the month that all elections are on the agenda. Please plan to attend. I would like to have a good showing of 2503 Auxiliary
members.
Okay, enough of election info. I saw this and thought it
would be a little bit of info to write about.
According to some sources, the Easter bunny first arrived in America in the 1700s with German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania and transported their tradition of an egg-laying hare called “Osterhase” or ”Oschter Haws.” Their children made nests in which this creature could lay its colored eggs.

VFW POST 2503
CLEAN-UP DAY
Please donate an hour or two
of your time on Saturday,
April 21st, at VFW Post 2503 to do a little
Spring Cleaning. The fun begins at 10 AM.
If you come after 10 AM, that’s okay, too.
All the help the Post can get is appreciated.
FROM THE
KITCHEN St. Patrick’s Day was a
BIG, BIG SUCCESS! This was accomplished
with the help of 36 volunteers who put in many hours throughout the week. And a BIG THANK
YOU to the Scouts from Troop 412 for their help busing tables. An event like this needs many hands. VFW Post 2503 thanks you all.

From the Auxiliary President —continued from page 1—
Rabbits usually give birth to a big litter of babies (called kittens), so they became the symbol of new life. Legend has it that the Easter bunny lays, decorates, and hides eggs as they are also a symbol of new life.
Another bit of info, the egg was a symbol of the rebirth of the Earth in pre-Christian celebrations of spring. However, the Easter egg itself was defined by early Christians as an Easter symbol of the resurrection of Jesus: the egg symbol
was likened to the tomb from which Christ arose.
I had always wondered about the tradition of the Easter egg. Well if the computer had it right, now I guess I know.
