Hello All, The Sons are in our down time now with only Breakfast with Santa coming up in our activity future, and that won't be for a couple of months. We are coming off a very busy season that included our Gun Raffle, the Clam Stand and Dunk 'em booth at the Corn Festival, and the Post 880 Scholarship Golf Tournament. I have already spoken about the great leadership and volunteerism that was evident at the Gun Raffle and the Corn Fest events, but I would like to address the Golf Tournament. Mark Flowers and Bob Reed did an excellent job of chairing this event. We had about 48 golfers play the challenging Eden Valley Golf Course. A good time was had by all. Our many volunteers helped in making this a smooth running operation. Chef Marv cooked up some fabulous prime rib, and Bridget was an all-star behind the bar. Our many sponsors ensured this was going to be a successful event, and will help the Post and the Sons with their annual high school scholarship donations. I want to thank Mark and Bob along with all of the help we received, and am looking to another great event next year. That's all for now, see you at the Post May God bless our military, and may God bless the United States of America. Kenneth D. Szal Cdr, Squadron 880

    “Taking Notice of God’s Love”

With the passage of every day, l i fe seems to move more quickly. Where has the time gone, we wonder, and to what purpose? It is humbling to know that what we are most familiar with – our own life – seems so insubstantial and fragile. Why would our fleeting moments be of any interest to the Creator of galaxies and mountains? The best evidence of God’s care for us is our life itself. Every person’s existence bears the mark of the Creator’s hand, though we may be unable to recognize it as we swiftly make our way from day to day. I cannot grasp how the universe hangs together, much less appreciate how my life fits into God’s plans. But in my best moments, I believe we are all here, from highest to lowest, because God loves us. Eternally. Lord, strengthen our faith in your enduring love.

    Hello Ladies,

First of all I want to thank everyone who helped during the Corn Festival - whether you volunteered to help Cheryl with Super Day, or serve wine in one of our stands, or if you helped out in the Clam Stand or ticket booths - your help was greatly appreciated.

Thanks also to everyone who brought food and helped on Veterans Day at the Fair. Congrats to our ladies for their 5th place award of $25 in the parade. They also marched in the parade for FallFest on September 8.

On August 18th, Cindy Henry, Lori Ranney and I participated in the KIA Memorial Road March at Chestnut Ridge. This is more than a walk in the park - it’s a 10K (6.2 miles) hike throughout the park and we climbed every hill in that park! It’s all for a great cause though - funds raised benefit the Gold Star Mothers food pantry, Vietnam Veterans food pantry and other veteran programs. Each participant is asked to carry a rucksack filled with 30 pounds of canned goods or if they are unable to carry, then simply donate the items in addition to the registration fee. Over 20,000 lbs of food was collected. Our Post’s Honor Guard was also present for the opening ceremony, rifle salute and Taps was performed by Matt Szal. Channel 4 did a wonderful job covering this event and Post 880 was well represented.

As Fall approaches please note that membership dues for 2019 are due now. Remember - Auxiliary dues have increased to $30 this year. Please do not pay online - instead send your check payable to ‘ALA Unit 880’ to Sharon Reilly, 2634 W. Church St., Eden, NY 14057 or you can leave it at the bar marked Auxiliary dues.

Our next visit with the vets at Eden Heights will be on Thursday, October 11th.

Our next meeting is Monday, October 1st. Executive board meets at 6:30 followed by our regular membership meeting at 7:00. I invited our Girls State representatives to attend this meeting. Hope to see you then.

    For God and Country,

    Karen Ferguson, Unit President

VETERANS NIGHT AT THE ERIE COUNTY FAIR Bob and JoAnne Franz went to the Golden Boys concert (Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell) on August 12 at the Erie County Fair. After the concert, Bob and JoAnne had a Meet and Greet pass with the Golden Boys. It was 53 years since Bobby Rydell and Bob Franz were in basic training together at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Many stories were shared - like it happened yesterday! It was a joyous greeting!
