January 2013
From Our Commander:
By the time you read this the Holi-days will be over. I hope everyone had a safe and happy Holiday Season. I also would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year.
Our dinners are doing very well, although we could use some addi-tional support for our Saturday din-
ners. The kitchen crew is trying very hard to bring you a variety of great tasting meal ideas, but if you have an idea for a meal please let the Kitchen crew or I know about it. Remember the dinners are here for you, the members.
I would like to welcome Dan Kenney back as our 2nd Vice Commander. Dan is our Legionnaire of the month and is doing a great job with the hall rentals, since returning as 2nd Vice.
In Closing, I want to remind you that I am always available to you at the Post. If you have any ques-tions or concerns, please stop by or call me at the Post.
Thank You and God Bless.
For God and Country Tom James
From Our Adjutant:
I would like to start, by wishing everyone a healthy, happy, and pros-perous new year. Over the holidays, Sharon and I went to South Carolina to be with our family, and, yes chil-dren do make Christmas a happier time for us.
Now 2013 is upon us, and I am pleased to report that our paid membership is at 83%. I want to thank all of you who have paid your dues in a timely man-ner. We are now within sight of our 100% goal for 2013-thank you so very much!!! If you are aware of some of our legionnaires who are having a hard time paying their yearly dues, please tell them to come to the post and see me we will only get ahead by all of us working together
I would like to thank Pat Kettering and her helpers on the Children’s Christmas party. It was a joy to see the happy, smiling faces of all of the children. It was another job well done.

From Auxiliary Unit 40 President Ladies a new year has begun and there is a lot of work ahead of us to be done. First of all there are a lot of thanks to go around for all the hard work that has been done so far. Our Children's Christmas Party was quite a success, thanks to the organiza-tion by Chairman Pat Kettering. A lot of
wonderful children are receiving a great Christmas they will not forget, nor will we. Of course Megan Elam and her group of volunteers did a great job at getting the holiday decorations in place. I would like to thank Eileen Cotler and Dottie McFadden for all the great help they gave me in the kitchen and those individuals who gave a hand in working the buffet table. A very special thank you goes to Babs Wood-White who shared her talent and provided the wonderful entertainment for the chil-dren. I know they enjoyed every minute of it. We cannot forget our Mrs. Clause (Barbara Watford) and Santa Clause (Michael Bean) better known as Moby. Thanks to all those who gave of their time and money to ensure that no one was left out or forgotten. This holiday season the unit was able to provide as-sistance to Rochelle Ferrell's elementary class at Fort Pierce Magnet school, by providing a few toys for the children. We also helped 3 families by providing toys, food, and gift cards to help them provide a nice Christ-mas for their children and grandchildren. We also do-nated our annual monetary donations to Mustard Seed, the Salvation Army and food cards to the St. Lucie Coun-ty Veterans Council in Port St. Lucie. Due to the resignation of Executive Board member Judi Harrison, I am pleased to announce that Melody Horwitz has accepted the appointment as the new Exec-utive Board member. Welcome aboard Melody. Our December Tuesday night dinner went well. Un-fortunately, the turn out wasn't as big as we would have liked it. It would be really nice to see a lot more of you ladies supporting our dinners each month or even get-ting some of you to donate your time and volunteer to cook a meal. The January meal will be BBQ Country Ribs, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, coleslaw, rolls & butter. The desert will be cherry or blueberry cheese-cake. Hope to see you there. We have two big projects coming up. In February Unit 40 has been given the honor of hosting the 12th District program to honor our WWll Veterans with a din-ner on February 9, 2013. The other project will be our
4th Annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down in March. Both of these projects will need a lot of assistance from volunteers. Please step up to the plate and help out. I would like to thank Commander James for the me-morial service that was held for our friend Joseph Wil-liam Yanick (Marlboro), who was the Post First Vice-Commander. He will be missed. It was nice to see and visit with his daughter Georgia McCoy, who came in from West Virginia. As I am writing this I want to wish Pat Kettering's mother a speedy recovery from a heart attack. Pat is in Orlando with her Mother at this time. To others who have been ill and in the hospital, we wish you a speedy recovery. To all those who are celebrating a birthday or anniversary, congratulations. I am only a phone call away if there is something I can assist you with. I wish all of you a blessed New Year. May the good Lord watch over you and yours and keep our soldiers out of harm’s way.
For God And Country,
Billie Pierce
